>Status effect are useless because bosses are immune to everything and regular enemies die too quickly.

>every boss is immune to status effects

>game features burn, toxic, freeze, poison, curse, shrink, stonescale
>all are just dps

>boss has multiple stages
>all stages are based around a specific status effect
>boss is not immune to player inflicted status effects
>certain elements can be more effective against others in fights

>boss casts death
>die
>player casts death
>boss is immune

>part of the final boss is not imune to instant death
>some other parts are not immune to other stats
>pretty much 100% of the bosses are not immune to some stats, even the superbosses

>Boss isn't immune to status effects

>"Oh yeah, dude, that boss is easy just stack bleed"

>"Yeah I just poisoned him and ran in circles, lol haha"

>"I cursed him, and went to tip my fedora just before he dropped dead after the death countdown"

In FF13 I used poison on that superboss. Poisoned and Tanked. wasnt even close to maxxing

>WHEN THE BOSS'S HP IS DEPLETED IT TURNS INTO A CUTSCENE AND HE FLIES AWAY

>I'm seriously hoping you guys are not running elemental builds

>1 hit kill boss
>only half of his health is gone and he goes to phase 2
Fuck this shit

>final boss is a convoluted scripted boss that progresses when you do enough damage but you die before getting to killing blow cutscene

>receive a new class near endgame, is has a shitload of cool ways to fuck with enemies
>bosses are immune to vast majority of them
fuck you bravely second, i wanted to utilize that yokai to the max

Love me some FFV.

>Series is actually pretty good about letting you use ailments on bosses.
>And then there's this bitch.

>Boss isn't immune
>Takes so long for him to get poisoned that it would have been easier to just kill him normally

This, Final Fantasy is one of the worst offenders of this other than a few exceptions status effects have generally been worthless throughout the franchise. This is one thing FF13 got right compared to the rest of the series with the Saboteur paradigm's debuffs being very useful because they were mostly general debuffs like reduced strength/defense. Nearly all bosses had vulnerability to some of your debuffs.

>defeat boss easily
>cutscene
>boss defeats you in cutscene

is the best way to do DOT effects on bosses just give them like %50 resistance to them?
or make them numerical instead of % based damage?

saved

>Boss has randomnized inmunity to different status effects every 2 turns

proportional proportion maybe
like say an attack does 1/10 health loss for 3 ticks on normal enemies, on a boss it does half that, so 1/20 health loss
...which I just realized is the same as what you said

>final boss with 36 phases
>boss is shit
>boss wasn't real final boss
>real final boss is shit
>game was shit

If %-damage doesn't work on bosses then it shouldn't be in the game in the first place.

>Game/MMO has a Crowd control type class
>Crowd control does nothing to bosses or in raids

>instant death spells miss more than they hit
>its one of the more expensive spells
>easier, cheaper, and more safe to just fight them regularly.

Is there any game that does instant death magic right?
