How the hell do I get into sprite creation?

How the hell do I get into sprite creation?

I just want to make video games..

You'd be better off taking an afternoon to learn how to do 3D models. Otherwise you'll be relying on kickstarter.

I'm not really interested in 3-D modeling though and bringing money into this is silly, I know nothing about making games, it'll never happen

Animating and Modeling are part of making games. You could actually earn a living off of it, but if you're talking exclusively as a hobby then may I suggest the internet or

>You'd be better off taking an afternoon to learn how to do 3D models.

aren't 3D models much harder?

Start with a simple object then add colors and details at your discretion then move on to another work until you git gud

Pic Related is my fisrt sprite work ever and took me weeks to get it

( not OP here) it's really good, but it's a little too rounded for a crystal

And...... no offense but what is that?

A crystal, read the filename please

ALSO is important to study other sprites and color theory/schemes

Change this to a a flesh tone and it looks like a puckered asshole.

Do you have anything you've done recently?

Just this for now

What programs do you use to make this stuff?

Stop making memeart and learn 3d

just do it and keep doing it till you're good at it

start small if you're unconfident. the secret to being good at art is to do it a lot.

gimp

Any program with a pencil brush works even Paint (which is what i used to start practicing).

Piskel is a fantastic program with lots of features and even animation so I recomend it if you want to work on sprites. It has an offline app you can use too

Hmm Thanks for the info

You need to learn traditional art first

Learn how to draw, stupid. Also, there's way too many pixel games on the market. 2D games should branch out a bit. Something like a beat em up that looks like 90's animu would be the tits, imo.

Okay I've made my first creation

Not bad, keep it up man

Nice first start. Next you should try working on your rounded edges. Especially the corners and the area around the lens. Just toy around with it and post the results.

This should help you with curves and jaggies.
Nicked this the free version of some in-progress Pixel Art tutorial called "Pixel Logic".

It's really not that hard.
