You get kicked from the level every time you collect a star.
No lugi, no functioning yoshi
Its not sunshine
>inb4 Blue coins
A necessity to increase the longevity of the game.
blue sea monster is too scary
The last time I played through SM64, I got to play as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Wario.
That's not mario 64. That's mario 64 ds, and is inferior to the original.
You are thinking of the remasterd ds version
Real fucking shame ninmemedo wasted its remaster on a fucking handheld
so long gay bowser
delet this
I thought it was good. I played it again on my 3ds which totally removed the dpad issue.
You know we fucking can't.
It's the only objectively perfect game I can think of.
I thought Sup Forums liked OoT as well?
But not the dedicated run button issue.
there arent stars on certain letters which spell out something like 'ur mr gay'
Finding out Bubba in THI could eat you scarred me for life to the point I became irrationally afraid of water in video games. I still don't like water levels.
It was meant as a showcase of power that you could now play "n64 tier" games on the go. It might have less value now that emulation and 3D games are widespread on handhelds but back then it was worth putting it on it.
For some reason the way the cave wall texture looked spooked me more than the sea monster
>camera
>can only wall jump within 4 frames of hitting a wall
>camera
>fight the same boss 3 times with the same strategy
>camera
Mario 64 has more than 1 boss and Bowser 3 is very different if you aren't a speedrunner
...
Anyone else hate missing these fucking things when throwing Bowser?
Lots of people didn't played cause it was a kiddie cartridge game in the era of CD-ROM for wannabe grown ups.
Lots of people with previous Mario knowledge who played tought it was too different from previous titles and didn't spend enough time with the game to learn the new style.
To this day there are still people who didn't played cause they think like these.
And those, my friends, are the flaws: they're in the people, not in the game.
It is those who are willing to adapt to change that will witness success in every area of life
looks like spooky mist
SO LONG GAY BOWSER
mario looks really ugly in-game. he bareley resembles the sprites
>inferior to the original
the mini games were pure GOAT though
It's a really good game
luckily you can skip shitty SM64 DS and just play NSMB for those minigames.
Golly, imagine if message boards existed all the way back in those prehistoric times.
looks like ass
>pretendo 69
kek i'm so using that from now on
That's a dumb ass reason.
The REAL reason is that it's so the player doesn't wander around, wondering where a star is when it's one of the stars that change the level.
Phony Playshitstation 4
>Same game
>Better Graphics (kinda better polished models, nothing that special)
>More playable characters
>Mini Games
>More Content in general
>Inferior
Oh, Sup Forums
>worse controls
>worse additional stars
kills the whole experience. Mario 64 was not made to be played with a D-Pad.
Play it on a 3DS then?
I never thought about that as a flaw, but that's certainly valid.
True, playing it on the DS is brutal to the fingers especially when confronting Bowser, but play it on the 3DS and it becomes infinitely better. I played my copy so much when I was younger that the cartridge is now so worn out its unplayable. I still have it hoping for the day I get lucky and I can play it again. ;_;
that doesn't fix the issue if you knew jack shit about how video games work. Even on a 3DS it only registers in 8 directions rather than the 360 it does in Mario 64.
cartridges don't get worn out you idiot
SM64DS was the very first game I tried when I bought my 3DS. The control nub didn't fix shit, since it's made for a Dpad. Plus the run button fucking sucks.
>It got a shitty remake on the DS
It's a collectathon
>Implying that using the stick will give you more than 8 directions
Horrible camera
It looked pretty bad by the time it had actually released. I like it myself, but it always looked poy poy tier to me.
>remastered
Remade user. Jesus, what is going on with these defenitions lately?
takes too long to build up speed
>white MC
This, never thought of it as a flaw until I played Banjo Kazooie.
How shit at games does one have to be to complain about the camera in Mario 64?
kek at the end
>git gud XD
Camera doesn't make the game hard or anything, it feels like shit. That's all.
newfag
The camera system was revolutionary, there's nothing wrong with it.
>t.Henry
fuck off fag we know its you
I was thinking about this while playing the crash remasters, and SM64 doesn't really feel like that much like a 3D platformer until really late in the game. Most of the levels/stars just involve exploration or interacting with NPCs and objects in various ways, there's hardly any pure platforming until Rainbow Road and Tick Tock Clock. Compared to at least Crash 1, which is level after level of pure platforming challenge.
That's not to say anything stupid like SM64 isn't a platformer or that it doesn't have well crafted challenges, but the actual platforming in the game kind of feels few and far between. And I replayed the game recently so it's not like I'm just forgetting the platforming I just don't think there's much notable.
That isn't a camera angle people complain about. The camera in SM64 is pretty much fine overall except for a few areas where it just completely shits the bed, like on the plank at the top of Wet Dry World, and decides it wants to be as uncooperative as possible and actively fuck with you.
There's lots of stars that change the level specifically for that star, or stars where you'd get stuck if you didn't warp out.
that's what collecting all 120 stars is for.
Lethal Lava Land was pretty platformer
The level could change on the fly and it could provide a zelda style warp back to the stage beginning
They put Yoshi in but he's entitled and ignores Mario.
>WAH I want to get every star in a single run!
Cry moar speedrunner
>Its not sunshine
That's a positive
>inb4 Blue coins
Saying inb4 at massive amount of padding doesn't make it go away, Gamecubebabby.
Their shitposting was pathetic. Thankfully we've come a long way.
Yes I'm sure in 20 years everyone will have strong reverence for "nintenbro" and "sonybro".
"O' what genius from years before did grace this Earth." they'll surely say.
Banjo Kazooie does the same thing better but Mario 64 was a great template for 3d platformers to use
So, padding?
The camera is shit, far from making it unplayable, but still shit
I got you senpai
Bad controls when going slow.
Going up the pyramid the intended way is the biggest casual filter I've encountered in a game.
yeah man nintendo + toddler, sony + nigger and crying ms paint man in hat is so much better than pretendo and playshitstation
i played this for the first time recently
it's actually really good desu
it is. Pictures speak louder than words
Hey man, sonybro still makes me laugh every time I see it.
SONY ALWAYS WINS BABY!
