Is Valve finished?

They are a digital service company now, not a game company.
Came here to post this

Valve is gonna be doomed any day now, right after Nintendo.
Remember when they tried to get into a streaming service like Twitch?
Remember all those other half-finished projects?
Remember when the Steambox came out?
No?
>valve keeps trying to make physical products that range from mild success to total failure instead of making games which are 100% guaranteed money
I seriously don't get it
>L4D2 came out 8 years ago
>No other developer has managed to capture the magic of the L4D series
:(
>Sup Forums keeps giving money to valve by buying games and making steam sale/begging threads instead of boycotting like they should have done when hats were introduced
Valve won't be dying any time soon
/thread
it is a very poorly managed company
also everyone who wants to actually maky vidya quit ages ago. the people who are left are there because it's basically a sinecure
>it's been six years since Portal 2
TF2 hats were a mistake
Well you can see cockgobblers here horking down fatgabe feces time to time and they can't stop loving some source2 and fatgabe's turd. Valve is like reddit in video games industry.
Other than Half Life every other "Valve" has been someone else's idea.
CS, Dota, Portal, L4D etc.
Top secret do not steal.
Valve is trash.
It has 2039485029348059238495 games, 99.9999999999%trash.
I thought it'd be more
Apparently it was from around the HL2 source leak era.
It has to be fake. Valve is privately held, and Gabe is a billionaire. Forbes estimates about $1 billion in earnings from STEAM alone.
Steam makes them billions so no the name Valve will stick around. It is a strong brand.
I meant as a game company, like they used to be. I don't even understand why their game and graphics programmers still work there. Maybe there IS something worth working on still. They're saying that more than half the company is working on VR, about 5 people on CS, about 20 on Dota, and about 5 on TF2. 10 people on Steam. Maybe not everything is lost.
>0 tech publications made in the last 2 years, the last one on their site is from 2015
except that sound system they are developing for unity, UE and other engines?
what about steambox, steamOS, steam controllers? (whether they worked or not is irrelevant, they exist).
Because: stable revenue, no stockholders to raid the company, and a gigantic cash reserve.
So they have no pressure to earn money, so long they don't damage their core income. So their goal is basically to try to branch out, and accept failures if it fails.
I don't care that they're half-assing projects, as long as there are projects.
Google is the same way. Both companies just do whatever and hope something sticks. Like Google+, MyTracks and a bunch of other services lost to time.
>half the company working on VR
It doesn't take a genius to work out that VR is going to remain niche until the hardware costs come down. You only have to look at Steam's own hardware survey to see that. If Valve wasn't propped up by Steam all of these blunders would have bankrupted the company by now.
>I don't even understand why their game and graphics programmers still work there.
They are still developing Source Engine, and making inhouse Game Demos that isn't of high enough quality to turn into Full Games.
There is also a large enough overlap with System Maintenance & Network engineering towards Video Game Architecture that there is still work to do.
>L4D2 came out 8 years ago
This is what really makes me sad
Imagine a new L4D with a better AI director and bigger maps and shit.
Hell, I'd even be down for another portal.
No games this gen feel like valve games used to feel. I never thought this gen would go this way. Just a little disappointed is all.
Truth post, still doen't make what OP said less shitty.
Valve is shit now.
>steam summer sale is now more expensive than buying the same games retail
> Not only they don't make games
> They ruin other games with their gambling APIs
Fucking Rocket League and KF2 have no business having crates and keys.
>tfw all my friends that I used to play Valve games with, now hate Valve too
>tfw you will never play TF2 2007/2008, CS:S, L4D 1 and 2, coop mods and GMOD with your old friends anymore
Even those who used to be the most hardcore fans don't give a shit to Valve anymore.
Oh, How the mighty have fallen.
No, they're far from finished. Gabe is a billionaire, Dota 2 has ~100,000 players active on average, and lots of people use Steam for both the sake of easiness and because the platform offers a good entrypoint for starting developers.
Did they actually release Source 2 yet, isn't DOTA2 run on it or something.
Valve hasn't made a real single player oriented game since Portal 1/Episode 2. Portal 2 has significant multiplayer focus, and L4D was made for co-op/versus. I'm not even sure they would make a new L4D without significantly changing the formula to be more micro-transaction friendly, but the demographic behind Left 4 Dead is different compared to TF2/CS GO/Dota 2
Now you get games like House Party on Steam where you can whip your dick out and blackmail women into having sex with you.
Valve YES
From making Half Life to selling hardcore porn to kids, what a company
Is not hating Valve a requirement for playing games they released or are your friends just retarded?
Do they even exist?
There is no such thing as Source 2
They made changes to Source engine (something they do all the time) and simply called it Source 2.
Finished caring about you. They have the market by the balls, they don't have to care.
Dota is running on it and CS:GO should be ported this summer.
Hammer 1.5 wasn't a real improvement. So it won't be released for a while.
Source DX12 was cool, but it wasn't a big improvement either.
The only good game they have is Undertale right?
They might pull out some half decent VR games
I'm sure the half dozen upper middle class white vive owners are hype
We haven't seen Source 2 yet and Steam is getting a UI update soon, there is a bit of hope. But I think they're just going to continue throwing shit at the wall and see what sticks (steam box, VIVE, streaming etc.) if those things don't turn profit they'll just continue be a digital service company. It fucking sucks everyone wants them to makes games but they're to fuckin lazy & scared.
Because no games since then captured the same feeling as old Valve games.
Or what, do you want me to play all these open world survival garbage in early access while streaming on Twitch?
This is right but also dumb on their half
call it sourceNT or platsource or sourceX
>Remember when they tried to get into a streaming service like Twitch?
Are you talking about broadcast? That was some dumb shit but I kinda had fun with it with my friends.
youtube.com
but this is source 2
I would be scared too.
They probably fear what it might mean for steam service if they release a game of their that's not well taken well or worse, is pure shit.
Taking literally everyones money an then what do they have to show for it?
>a crappy VR game
Let's hope not. Actually, yeah, that might actually piss me off a little.
Makes sense.
It's clear that main focus for source2 was performance, portability and VR. It can't compete with UE4 on the gfx level.
it's not fucking twitter
Wow what the fuck, I was expecting it to look better. Is that because it's in VR or is this it actually how it performs as it is? It just looks the same with better lighting and textures
Well that's why they didn't release Half Life 3. Because of he negative reception that mass effect 3 had, they feared that if it didn't live up to the high standards the steam/valve brand will tarnish and someone would take their spot. I just want them to make games but they'll probably start making games when it's too late.
Well, his calculations results in actually 2 games, so it makes room for another one.
>Try not laugh!!! Undertale comic dub #96
>Focused entirely on gambling games like CS, Dota and TF2
Ahaha.
I think you mean "focused entiredly on DOTA2."
I don't think Valve's main focus is gfx anymore. My hypothesis is that Source 2 might be something that's really aimed toward the modding community like Unity or Bethesda's gamebryo. It would fit in with their free market philosophy.
Dota 2 is already using Source 2.
That still leaves us with 2039485029.348059238495 good games you fucking retard
At least do your math before shitposting lmao
em, what? There are 781 million registered games on steam. His percentage gives you at most 1 game.
>modding scene is not nearly as active as it was two decades ago
>valve hasn't released anything in ages
Maybe Valve needs to buy up more small teams.
2.039485029348059238495
lol what a nigger
Truth.
hl3 never ever
Will half life 3 ever come out one day?
post coherent counter reply, get no yous
I knew pic related was gonna apply.
Face it. At the end of the day, microtransactions and skins to milk whales of their cash is where the money's at. Mobile gaming is absolutely dominated by free to play garbage with shit like timers because of how accessible it is. The future of gaming is terrible """"freemium"""" games.
>making literally millions of profit
>finished
why is v riddled with so many retards these days
>In one interview they even said: "I don't know how we could develop games without any data"
You really think they just make up a game without ANY data what so ever on how to sell it to a customer? Its literally insane to make a game no one wants.
>House Party on steam
>It's real
HOW?
Not a fan of Valve but the SC is actually a pretty great controller that scratches that autistic configuration itch I have.
Picked up a steam link for $15 but has yet to arrive. I've heard bad things about that.
it brings in the replies.
Blizzard must be dying as well since they follow the exact same money making gravy train of perpetual doom in your eyes.
They pretty much said: "We don't know how we did it in the past."
How high are the chances this man is willing to give some high quality content to the community b4 offing? Imean, if i was on the verge on the death bed I would at least try to pleasesome of thecommunity left.
yeah, but that's just a mechanical reply counting - no substantial dialog two or more humans usually would hope to have.
Are all shitposters aliens and they just report to the Hive, how many contacts they have established per galactic week for bonus?!
>So their goal is basically to try to branch out, and accept failures if it fails.
>Its literally insane to make a game no one wants.
why do we get games like hatred then
lal
Hatred was good though. It was a maximum edge simulator where you played as a stereotypical edgy guy.
Steam box came out?
they will show new games during Steam Dev Days
Oh my god it's a twitter/people against sane gaming plant!
>Blizzard got gutted by Activision
>Valve disappeared to it's own asshole
worst timeline
>Trump is president
>Daily liberal hysteria
Best timeline
