Games that look great because of their visual style and not because of "muh realism", "muh detailed models", "muh textures" and this kind of circlejerking.
I'll start with this masterpiece.

Is Transistor good? I hated Bastion because the combat was fucking shite.
Thought it was okay. The combat is different than bastion and I enjoyed both.
Pretty fun but in Bastion the smooth R&B narrator made that game for me.
In Transistor the narration isn't bad but we've moved down to a Brooklyn indie rocker voice.
It's similar, in that no matter what you can't do wrong. You gain attacks throughout the game then gain the ability to add another attack you earn as a subeffect to the previous attack. There's a bunch of options that vary from a gravity pull towards your heavy drawn sword or making a multi-pinball attack that charms your enemies.
You'll find a style you like with the battles, but it's not the main draw and it is similar to bastion. The best things about the game are the story, music and art style.
...
Bravely Default and Second are amazingly comfy despite being on a portative platform.
The combat systems in both games are literally night and day outside of the fact that they're both isometric.
They're both top tier combat systems but Transistors is the superior one due to the insane degree of customization.
I thought it was pretty good. Wish it was just a little longer though.
The combat doesn't really come into its own until the second time around, so if you do get it, keep that in mind.
>"portative"
what is wrong with portable
>saga
you reminded me of this and it fits op's request too
Thought the combat, setting and music was much better in Transistor. There really needs to be an option to make that sword shut the fuck up, though, there was no reason for this game to have some asshole talking all the way through it other than Bastion fan pandering.
Ori and the blind forest looks pretty good.
All of Vanillaware's games
What about this?
Eh not really. The intro with the little "ooooh ethereal" smooth music and garbage modern font fading in left an irrationally bad taste in my mouth. Like they were trying to give a mythical quality to a hollow shell.
Only played Muramasa, and it is really gorgeous
Still one of the best
Oooh, don't make me start...

Would you stop playing with that that radio of yours? UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND

I love the art style of Jak & Daxter.
Samurai Musashi is another good one. I don't typically like anime style stuff but with the cell shading, it looked really fun
Yes.

I can't get into this fucking game. I'm not very far (I don't think) and I'm dying a lot, but that's not what's putting me off. The spazzy aesthetic, gameplay, everything gets a little on my nerves, but mainly I just can't seem to be satisfied when I do pass a level, just a little annoyed. I haven't played it in a while and nothing draws me back.
How was it for you guys? Did it click instantly, or did you warm up to it?
...
Transistor is better
...
what game?
Pretty much every Vanillaware game.
In particular I like Odin Sphere.
...
Sup Forums hates this game but I really liked it
I think that's Trine
...
>The spazzy aesthetic, gameplay, everything gets a little on my nerves
that's how it works
>can't seem to be satisfied when I do pass a level
that's bad
Give it one more chance, but it's also possible it's not your type of game.
Really, the game supports infidelity? If so, thanks. I really can't play a game like that.
MASAKA
It's the closest we'll get to a Kill la Kill game. Combat is like tactics games in real time. Rather than quick reactions it's about thinking on your feet. Abilities combine together to give each other unique effects, you can mix and match your favorite. Realistically you'll find a couple of combination you like and spam it the entire game. Like OP said the aesthetics are top notch. Art deco + cyberpunk.
I don't even have a reaction face, I can't decide if its because of how retarded the guy you quoted is, or you for actually believing it.
not only 5 , but 3 and 4 too have the same look
but damn, arent these games time sinkholes ...
P3 and 4 are good, using a combination of VN portraits and model animations to convey a lot of emotions, but P5 is just miles ahead of everything. Seriously, that fucking UI is godlike
You have to learn to embrace the chaos before you can love the game. My most satisfying runs weren't the ones where I got A+ on the levels, but the ones where I just went apeshit and everything fell together perfectly like I was in an action movie.
But that's the gameplay side, in terms of aesthetics it instantly clicked with me, and for me the aesthetics are like 50% of what makes HM so amazing.
>aesthetics
don't forget the music, bro
>mfw i finished p3p more than 4 times
>started p4 on ps2 emulator
>formatted pc and completely forgot to backup it
>70 hours gameplay
>almost after half the playthrough after i saved Naoto
>have just the money to buy P5 and go through that self cucking i did
Ori and the Blind Forest
Hallow Knight
Hyper Light Drifter
New wonder boy game
All the Metal Slug games
Axion Verge
Dont Starve
Fez
FTL
Hotline Miami/2
Jet set Radio
Risk of Rain
Papers Please
Spelunky
Geometry Wars 3
Terraria
and this was a good successor
I really wish they do PC ports of their back catalog.
Axiom Verge is garbage through and through
Looks like futuristic diarrhea (brown, red, purple) and does nearly nothing with the one cool idea it had, glitches.
Rip my nigga bogdanos
Do it, my first P5 playthrough lasted 120 hours and they were all incredible
...
Looks just like what you thought 8bit games looked like in your childhood
Breath of the Wild
Thats an actual shame. Im just playing ot and havent gotten that far but still like the look and sond of it while still having fun
I've yet to find a screenshot that does justice to what The Witness looks like at 1440p. Maybe I should just go take my own.
A shoe-in for these threads, but I'll post it anyway. Play it with some enhancements on Dolphin and it could pass for a new release.
...
I never noticed before, but the witness' art style is basically just a modernized version of wind waker's.
Isn't it actually the same guy?
:^)
Gigantic
This is the first thing that comes to mind for me. There's definitely a ton more.
Every anime game
...
...
The game looks good, the art style is lovely, who cares about how pretentious you want your games to be it doesn't change anything.
Not released but: The Last Night
Check the E3 trailer.
I'll admit that there could be nostalgia at play here, but I'll always love the way the N64 Zelda games looked. Perfect examples of getting everything possible out of low-poly graphics.
Trine 2
Fuck yeah.
Darkest Dungeon's art style is great. The colors changing depending on your torch level is a nice touch, too
>the dude who mapped all of OoT like this will never finish mapping MM
...
aesthetic means sensory, not just visual
music is part of the aesthetic
i stayed up all night beating transistor the first time i played it, great customization and the ost earned a place in my library
...
heavily biased, but FFXI is still gorgeous despite being an upscaled PS2 game. the different maps feel like realistically different habitats with appropriate fauna and flora, the armor designs are some of the best in the genre, the models still look great due to the effort applied to simple animations like walking and emotes; tarutaru walk like the squat little potatoes they are, elvaan look down their noses at everyone like the big snobby bastards they are, etc.
WW on PAL60 was mind-blowing at the time even though its such a simple style.
>games that look good except in ways it can look good
stellar thread OP
aesthetic means pleasing in appearance, but whatever, i liked that game too, as a whole
Realism, model quality, and texture quality can look good for the time, but they'll always be inferior to newer games. Art style lasts forever. That's what he's talking about.
He could have said it without memeing, then I would have taken him seriously.
>could have said it without memeing
Where do you think you are?
hotline miami would've been trash tier if they didn't do the graphics the way they did
I liked it.
...
...
my negroid
It means both depending on whether it's used as a noun or adjective.
It's a good game. IDK why it gets so much derision. It's actually an amazing game if you take into account that it was made by 1 guy.
>It's the closest we'll get to a Kill la Kill game
How dare you insult Transistor like that. Fuck you.
Both kill la kill and transistor are amazing, but I don't really see a connection either
ANIME FIGHT! ANIME FIGHT!
Maple Story is a game that is pretty much 90% aesthetic. The gameplay itself is pretty braindead, as is most MMORPGs, but it's amazing how beautiful and cool the environment and enemy designs have been.
Finding this place under a Toy Factory hovering in the sky filled me with such a sense of adventure.
Elite Dangerous is I suppose graphically modern, but it has its "aesthetics" down to a fucking t.
The soundwork in particular is absolutely top shelf. Ever heard the fabric of reality groaning with outrage as a couple thousand metres of human arrogance comes punching through its fundamental barriers?
I have. And it can still make me shiver.
youtube.com
Shame about the game, though.
Please where can i find all of these
vgmaps.com
Have fun going down that rabbithole if you've never been there.
I'd add Gonner and Magic Wand
