Anything by Tri-Ace.
Nocturne
Suikoden 1 an 2
>Chrono Trigger
Sorry, try again.
Lost Odyssey
Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
I can't...
That was easy.
>Tri-Ace in charge of making a good game
Reminder that Star Ocean is a terrible franchise and 2 was a fluke.
Nocturne
Reminder that Resonance of Fate is the best JRPG from last gen.
I enjoyed Star Ocean 4.
Star Ocean 2
This honestly. 3-5 are all sort of terrible but playing the jp dub of 2's PSP port was really fantastic. I don't know what happened to make the series wet the bed all of a sudden after it but SO2 is great.
>Chrono Trigger
Sorry, try again.
Chrono Trigger isn't better than Nocturne and also Cross was better than Trigger.
Chrono Trigger wasn't really even that exceptional and aged like milk. It was good by all means but people who put CT on a pedestal are all huge dorks.
Saga Frontier
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Desu Exuro
>aged like milk
I'm on the Nocturne side of the fence, but don't be a silly nigger.
Radiant Historia
Care to enlighten me on why it says Squaresoft in the bottom left?
There isn't one. In my years from Atari to now, Square is the only ones to refine it. Everyone else just rode the jrpg bandwagon hard, and they all were boring as fuck. Square at least knew the value of making a rpg have a good ratio of fun and story. In fact, all the FF-side offs from Square were good, too. The only ones who could beat Square was Square themselves.
J-Force
Chrono Trigger is incredibly overrated.
Replay the game and try and finish it without emulator speedups I dare you. The final area is a huge chore.
...
>Cross was better than Trigger
>Chrono Trigger wasn't really even that exceptional and aged like milk
Get the fuck out of here.
Breath of Fire IV
Cause am an idiot that thought you meant better than FF rather than better than Square Soft.
For my second attempt : Golden Sun
pleb SPOTTED.
Lufia 2 is better than dawn of mana
BOOM
you said ANY square JRPG, go fuck yourself
Hold on user I'll fix that for you
>Breath of Fire 3
I replay it yearly you double nigger. Even Nocturne has aged more poorly than CT. The camera can be fucked up at times and it makes navigating dungeons a chore. Chrono Trigger is immaculate.
Name ONE (1) SNES era JRPG with better art direction and music than Chrono Trigger.
Dark Cloud 2
Also just due the virtue of hardware limitations, any jrpg released in the past decade that's not utter trash is probably better then square's super early rpg's.
We dont talk about jrps after Squareenix was formed.
Why did you emphasize spotted? That sounds weird.
you said ANY
FUCK YOU
>The camera can be fucked up at times
You know you can reset it by pressing O right?
Nocturne's biggest issue is how fusing is random and you spend ten minutes rerolling for the skills you want inherited.
Disgaea vs. FFT
go!
Terranigma against any of it's Square contemporaries.
Square made my top 3, so I got nothin'.
Earthbound
Phantasy Stars were far more ambitious compared to the Final Fantasy titles of the time, and I feel PS4 really helped define modern JRPGs
Phantasy Star
Lufia
Lunar
Valkyrie Profile, nigga.
i bet your post is worth around 80 points!
There isn't. Square made Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song. There isn't much competition for that.
Suikoden
Xenoblade Chronicles
Dragon warrior monsters 2
Dragon Quest
SMT
Persona
Earthbound
Trails in the sky FC and SC
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold
impossible because Chrono Cross exists.
>chrono trigger beats everything
chrono trigger is overrated as fuck. Radient Historia is better for christ sakes. To answer your question though, Earthbound easily beats all Squaresoft RPGs.
>Earthbound easily beats all Squaresoft RPGs.
>Earthbound
>Final Fantasy VI
>Secret of Mana
earthbound is hispter's first rpg
Got bad news for you bro, Chrono Trigger is hipster shit too.
After all these years I keep reading Salsa Frontier
Name one role playing game that square has ever made
Chrono Trigger is overrated.
Chrono Cross is GOAT.
Well that was easy.
I wonder how many people who circlejerk over this game actually played it, or wearing some super heavy duty nostalgia goggles, because it really isn't anything special. While I consider Chrono Trigger the slightest bit overrated it still runs circles around this game. Hell, so do most Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games now that I think about it. Pretty much the only thing SoA brought to the table that wasn't boring shit was the 3D sailing.
my nigger.
BoF 4 wasn't all that bad, and i do admit the visuals were pleasing but something about the game just didn't make it as epic as 3
FFT. Disgaea had way too much grinding.
Anons recommend me some good rpgs, I already played Mother 1,2 and 3, Lisa: The Painful and Joyful and OFF, tried to play FF but I didn't liked the ATB.
Is Chrono Trigger really that good?
Earthbound
>reverse-trap MC accidentally collects a lesbian harem and sets off to pull Atlantis out of the sea
Hard pressed to name a better JRPG
*blocks your path*
The entire Shadow Hearts trilogy for PS2.
Legend of Legaia
Helps that it and Grandia 2 are almost literally the only rpgs on the system.
Unless you're a rouguelike patrician
FF12-2: Babby's First RPG Edition
what's the best square rpg?
kiseki
Radiata Stories
You.
I like you.
>baby's first RPG
>harder than almost any RPG square has made despite being relativly easy in its own franchise
and yeah it's FF12-2, an improvement over an already good game
It has ATB so probably not.
>harder than almost any RPG square has made
Which Square RPG's do you think are harder?
xenogears :)
Xenoblade
Romancing SaGa 3
But user, Chrono Trigger is still the Platinum Standard that none have yet to surpass. How do you expect this thread to succeed? youtube.com
>harder than almost any RPG square has made
user, I am a Xenobladefan, but even I think that this game was very easy compared to other RPGs (well, except for the optional superbosses).
I agree, that was a hard game to "play".
well it's easily harder than the mainline FF games (not counting optional hard mode bosses in XI/XIV)
Even then you just had to farm & create the right gems...
I think you may have been playing Xenoblade wrong.
grinding and equipment salvaging is an option in every rpg
which FF is harder than xenoblade?
I've only not played 2 and 3 in terms of mainline
...
rpgs aren't hard. stop this.
SMT. SMT II.
?
I love SMT's setting. I just wish the combat wasnt so tedious.
3 is probably overall the hardest mainline FF, it's definitely the most grindy
That's just it: They aren't hard. Xenoblade isn't hard. None of the Xeno games are hard. Final Fantasy isn't hard (though II is hard to get used to, unless you liked Koudelka). If you think there was any difficulty in Xenoblade outside the super-bosses (that just needed prep-time), then you were playing it wrong.
