Is/was this a good game?

nah
It wasn't perfect but there will still be faggots in here claiming it was a piece of shit 0/10 simply to be contrarian.

Yeah, but not for $60 holy shit.

it's a 9/10 game honestly

Playing it coop now.
It's moddable, the single player had decent puzzles and a lot of humor.
A very decent game.

One of my favorite games. Perfect example of taking a game and improving every single aspect for the sequel.

It was good but it also showed the limits it has.

The game was a massive success yet it failed Valves own expectations hard because ''the community creating content and so doing the work for us'' which worked in Dota2 and CSGO didn't work here at all.

Which is why it will never get a sequel.

remember when they tried to put a fucking hat shop in this game

Remember that this happened

Absolutely fabulous game

They wanted this game to be the next TF2 so badly.

Too bad that testing maps are harder to make than hats

...

The game itself is good, so is the multiplayer mode. I do believe it is on par with the first game, there isn't one better than the other.
Too bad for the cosmetic faggotry but that's how Valve rolls nowadays.

daily reminder this is happening

It was a Portal sequel, but it was more intersted in showing a story then difficult puzzles.
Which honestly I was fine with, the story was a great ride ending in a great final battle and ending sequence.
My favorite parts were when you were going through the old labs. Those areas were my aesthetic.

They keep saying the same thing about the MGS movie and I've yet to see it in a decade.

Portal 1 was better. The sequel went full reddit.

>reddit

What does "full reddit" mean? You just didn't like it?

You went full tumblr right now user

8/10 game easily, probably closer to a 9. Fucking brilliant game. Infinitely replayable like the first one.

Portal 1 Glados worked better because she was an insane AI who clearly did not understand how humans worked. Portal 2 ruined it by making her just another human-in-a-computer kind of AI character.

Of course it was good, but it's not as good as portal
Portal was an idea executed virtually flawlessly, no filler. Portal 2 had more good but also waaaay more bad.

Because all of the inhibiting features that made her from an individual person to a heartless machine were destroyed
Don't get me wrong, I liked portal 1 glados a lot more, but I at least like that there was a reason for her becoming a worse character rather than just bad writing like a blizzard game would've done, you know?

It's a good game. The co-op is only good if both people are going into it blind.

Real talk, if Portal 3 came out, what would you want out of it?

I don't want another one, it would be bad and uninspired

A key and crate based system with a rare chance of an exclusive portal gun skin

It wouldn't be bad if it was good though

No it would still be bad even then

Escape from New York

Not necessarily. If it had like 30 extra graphics and a few gameplays thrown in it would be a good game.

the 1 is better

Gelocity are the best community maps

How could you even continue the story? Everything was tied up fairly well.

More audio is what the game really needs, standout flaw from 2 was not nearly enough noises

stephen merchant was great despite just playing himself

its a good game, really hits me in the nostalgia

Really fucking good game. Miss when Valve made games.

It's called character development and it was clear Glados was more than a simple artificial intelligence since the first game.

>objectively

Terrible at release
Has somehow still managed to age like shit

2/10, and one point is only cause I want to bang the female lead developer

Fuck off. Wolpaw and Chet did an excellent job. Even the DLC dialogue was God-tier; youtube.com/watch?v=IPG3eDTy-yo

I would just want them to reveal whatever F-Stop was going to be

It was some meme that messed with the players camera.

All that cave johnson dialogue makes this the game the gold standard for writing as far as i'm concerned. As far as engaging gameplay, portal is a 6/10 at best but the atmos and writing bumps it up to a 9.

youtube.com/watch?v=pT7pVK5q8tk

Nothing has better atmosphere than Valve's early Source games. The Orange Box era was the best.

The Puzzles in Portal were easty as well, Portal 2 added some flair to them, personally I loved the old Aperture, Cave Johson was great, a perfect representation of old science, doing things just to see how bad are the consequences, even the lemons meme was hilarious the first time I heard it.

I didn't like how restrictive game was. Too much of un-portalable surfaces, too much handholding (invisible walls everywhere making sure you won't fall or jump out of bounds, you can't even fucking put Wheatley down), too much Wheatley.
Too little gels (especially white one), too little exploration. The rebuilding motif was neat, and I really liked it, but after Portal 1 I kinda hoped sequel would allow more free movement.
All in all, just as with Half-Life, sequel is solid game, but original is even more so.

>Aperture Science ruins
>enter the hidden door
>find a dock
>Borealis life preserver

Story was meh

It was good. Though honestly I would have preferred that they not bothered with the co-op and just extended the length of the single-player. Especially the end-game, there needed to be a few more complex puzzles that really made use of all the mechanics.

>THIS. STATEMENT. IS. FALSE.

>Uhh, true. I'm gonna go with "true".

Co-op was the shit. So was the co-op DLC campaign. The problem with co-op is that all the co-op maps on the workshop are garbage.

unlike half-life, I hope portal never gets a direct sequel. that ending is too good. I don't think there's anything left that needs to be explored.

They could go to the moon.

>The problem with co-op is that all the co-op maps on the workshop are garbage.
Nigger go download all 3 gelocity maps right now and come back to tell me they're shit.
I'll fight you motherfucker, that shit was most fresh breath of air I've had with any vidyajame in quite some time.

They actually did the EXACT opposite of "full reddit" and barely referenced any of the parts of the first game that became memes.

>Bore-tal 2
Played through it once and never again. Sup Forums is always wrong.

I liked GLaDOS' new character in Portal 2, made her a little more human which let her amazing voice actress shine more. She definitely needs more work, I love her voice.

I hope they don't try to force a third game because I can't see this new Valve doing anything but butchering it to be perfectly honest.

In fact, I don't want Valve to even make an attempt anymore with any games. I don't think they can do it anymore.

Well I loved it and I wish they ported it to VR, more specifically to PS VR.

Were those the racing maps?

More fucking robots
the cores in portal 1 were great, portal 2's new turrets and cores were both fucking amazing

More features for the portal gun, preferably unlocked over time
youtube.com/watch?v=SVXOJeoF4hc
In this video it basically becomes a gravity gun

It's a good game.
The puzzles early on were too simple, but it eventually grows into its own. The endgame puzzles made use of a ton of mechanics and were more challenging than the first game, which didn't get tough at all until the last two test chambers or so.
The co-op chambers were an excellent addition.
The story was generally good, but some scenes dragged on for too long.
I'd say it's superior to the first game, but not as tight or polished.

That looks terrible honestly

Reminds me of the Half Life 2 beta physgun.

Yes, I think it's far superior to the first game and I don't really understand how Sup Forums ever argues otherwise

Only real complaint I have about the game is that it doesn't use the same console commands as the first one. I like playing them both vanilla, but it's also great fun running through with guns and exploding turrets and shit.

I don't want a sequel but I would like some kinda short film that's just Chel outside of Aperture, either walking around in wonder or seeing her get rescued or something.

>26 September 2016

I guess he's staying faithful to the source material.

This. There is something sinister and eerie about old source games. It almost seems like they did not understand what made the first Portal great.

is and was a good game, 10/10 meme

The puzzles were downgraded in p2 by removing white surfaces from the walls, compared to p1 where all walls were white.
P2 looks better and has a more interesting story but p1 has the best puzzles.

I'd rather have Half life 3 incorporating the portal gun and use it for a few puzzles. Of course that won't happen

It's a very good game, and objectively better than Portal 1 in every aspect, but it doesn't feel as special so it's lower in my list.

Portal 2 is just Portal with an extra layer of fat. It's really good fat but it's still somewhat extraneous and self-indulgent
