XII ZA is a revision of a revision (IZJS) of a 2006 game, any combination you pick WILL work, metafags should eat a bullet as it's completely pointless to force it into this game.

Have a time mage. Have two. You can easily have every mage class, but whoever your time mage is, have them in the party at all times. My suggestion is Bache, dual class Archer/Time mage. Your damage output will be fucking stupid.

You can give Vaan literally anything and he'll destroy. Make him a Monk/Hunter and he'll be able to tank the entire game solo. 90% of the time he won't get hit, and when he does it will do no damage.

Ashe: Black Mage, White Mage, Breaker
Balthier: Samurai, Uhlan, Time Mage
Basch: Black Mage, Breaker, Knight
Fran: Breaker, Time Mage
Penelo: Black Mage, Hunter, Machinist, White Mage
Vaan: Monk, Hunter, Red Mage, Machinist, Black Mage

Hints:

-Black Magic is useless in this game, don't waste your time with it unless you want a hard time
-Summons are a waste of time for anything other than the license board, don't use them in fights
-Have at least one Time Mage, Breaker or Machinist in your team. They are a must have in future fights.
-pay attention to the paths of Quickenings in your license board. You can only have 3 quickenings for each character, so make sure you are getting the ones which will give you acess to the best licenses
-Hunters and Red Mages don't make good characters for a team. Avoid them.

why are people being so anal about this, this isn't SMT, pick classes that you think fit the characters and roleplay, youre not distributing stat points or something. the only thing you get out of min/maxing and choosing "optimal" classes" for each character is exactly that, more optimal damage. but thats the case for any game, even if youre autistic about this kinda stuff, theres recommendations online for it

Was going to get this game but Crash Bandicoot was a better choice.

I played FFXII back in the day, if they stuck to Balthier and Basch instead of Vaan(I don't even mind penelo) and if the artstyle and world was more like FFTA, arabian nights instead of a mesopotamian star wars I'd dig the shit of this game.

The amount of metalic trash that the characters wear really bothers me for some reason (not counting the Judges, those were nice).

The esoteric jobs are Shikari (Hunter), Uhlan (notDragoon), Bushi (Samurai) and Foebreaker

Shikari is kind of thief+ninja since they use both knives and ninja swords, Uhlan is a discount Dragoon because there's no Jump Command, and I think Samurai was just localized as Bushi.

The same applies to Foebreaker (which was just Breaker), and both Red and Time Mage were renamed Red and Time "Battlemage" for some reason

Personally I tend to think of Vaan as a monk. Ashe as knight and Basch as a samurai because honor and shit.

Basch and Balthier are the best mages in the game, White and Black mages get huge bonuses to MAG, so you can cap anyone's MAG. That means you want someone with steal or Basch, who's otherwise only really good as an Archer.

Breaker damage is based off of VIT, of which Basch has the worst by the way.

I completed both vanilla and izjs. Sure some hunts are tricky and Yiazmat is a bitch but it's nothing you can't work your way around with anything. Well maybe you couldn't do Yiazmat with nothing but white mages but that was hyperbole, the point is you don't need to go minmax autistic mode to do everything the game offers you, at all. You can pick whichever jobs you fancy and complete everything.

I meant to say Basch and Balthier are the best White Mages, my bad.

Summons are kind of great now since you can directly control them and use their ultimates whenever you want instead of fulfilling a really esoteric criteria just to get them to use it, like Zodiark required you to be petrified to use his ultimate

Yeah they should change some little details. Keep the same outfit but with a little detail that identifies the class, like a bandana for monk, a white and red cape for white mage, a weeb tattoo for samurai, etc.

Yeah, generally, but she works as a lot of things due to how useful innate steal is. Time Mage, White Mage and Breaker are all great choices depending on your setup, just don't put her anywhere near a damaging class that isn't Breaker.

You can't cheese encounters by delaying enemy spells forever with yours but at least when you want to use Curaja it fucking works
