Because of you this franchise will die. Fuck all of you splatoon playing shits
Because it wasn't Metroid.
> Got it for free with the Wii Mini exploit
> Enjoy it a lot
It was fun for sure. Too bad we'll never see another one
I don't think it was fun at all.
But was Metroid ever good tho?
I feel sorry for you
The Prime series never were
2D is fun for a playthrough but it loses its charm after that unless you're a speedrunning degenerate
I don't hate it
It's perfect
Calm down, I'm only parroting the crybabies who thought Retro doing Tropical Freeze meant Metroid couldn't be done.
After playing it like three times now I think I've come to the conclusion that it surpasses the original Country games. It's probably my favorite platformer of all time.
That's OK, sometimes it's not easy to have standards.
Why the fuck are people so sure DK is never getting another game? DK has had a game on every major Nintendo console since the NES, what makes the switch any different?
That's certainly one way of framing it
Do you think it's possible that Tropical Dong was actually a fantastic game. And you were unable to enjoy it because of some personal hangup?
Because one player must be DK for some reason.
I want to play with just Cranky and Diddy.
Probably not, because it felt just as mediocre and unfunny as all of the other DKC games.
this
DK will never die
It will also never stop being fantastic
I love it, but enemy design is trash. Step up your baddies game, Retro
>unfunny
What a strange thing to comment on
I think they mean the Returns series, not Donkey Kong.
The Wii U flopping and everyone wanting Switch ports is why. If they port Tropical Freeze, we're not getting a new game until the next console.
penguins were better than Tikis at least
I meant unfun.
>unfunny
Was it supposed to be funny?
It was way better than the Tikis at least.
With that logic we arent gettinv a Mario Kart on Switch either.
slow ass nintendo game
>current year
>niintenbros still cant into blast processing
What makes you say that?
>Bought it
>Played
>Enjoyed it alot
>Still not sure why it's propped up in particular above the other really good WiiU 2D platformers but having access to Diddy, Tiny, and Cranky is god damn fun as hell. Cranky is my favorite.
I don't hate it. GOAT 2D platformer.
I'm honestly sorry that you didn't enjoy it, user.
I hope you don't feel like you wasted your money
Last line wasn't meant to be greentext
>penguinmind
Yeah, absolutely, but it was just "less shit", not actually good. Everything looks too goofy in my opinion, and Scooby Kong shouldn't be such a thing, but that's not only on Retro, it's a Nintendo issue in general
What other really good wii u platformers are there?
The only 2D platformer on the Wii U that can compete with Tropical Freeze is Rayman Legends, but that's a multiplat.
>Still not sure why it's propped up in particular above the other really good WiiU 2D platformers
>other really good WiiU 2D platformers
LOL
Proof other than what you pull from your ass?
This kind of logic makes no sense at all. Retro made Prime 3 for Wii and then ported Prime 1 and 2 to Wii later on.
I personally think it's the best 2D platformer on Wii U, and it's a fantastic example of how to make a 2D platformer with 3D graphics. The characters still seemed to have life, it wasn't just the typical lazy act of making it 3D so you can make one character model to animate instead of drawing different sprites. That's what ugly shit like MN9 and Cave Story 3D did. DKCTF even had some tech, that fur effect was a neat little trick. It's the best hair effect I've ever seen that wasn't some bruteforce lose 20 FPS shit like Hairworks.
I really want to play this, but I don't want to get a Wii U and find out this is getting ported to the Swtich later or something.
Donkey Kong 94 is so fucking great. What ever happened to Masayuki Kameyama? And why did Mario vs Donkey Kong turn into such a shit series?
>Luigi U
>Wooly World
>Mario Maker
>Bad
I never tried emulating Wii U, but supposedly the emulation for it works well now. If you don't want to see if it gets a Switch port, you can try that.
Jungle Beat 2 when? Koizumi needs to realize its full potential.
>Wooly World
>good
Yoshi games have always been awful.
>Still not sure why it's propped up in particular above the other really good WiiU 2D platformers
the music
the sense of speed
the creative gimmicks
the sheer amount of work that went into the dynamic, multi-plane level design
That's what did it for me, anyway
If we're talking about recent Nintendo platformers, I'd say...
Tropical Dong > Wario Land Shake It > Return to Dreamland > DKCR > Woolly World > Rainbow Curse > Epic Yarn >>> NSMBU > NSMBW
Look at these hot opinions.
Snes Yoshi and Wooly World are the worthwhile ones.
>Island
>Bad
So have your opinions apparently.
I played half of Wooly World and made like one level in Mario Maker. I want to play both again, but DKCTF had me playing until the very end and I want to replay it right now.
...
>It's perfect
I enjoyed it, but it's not perfect.
>very repetitive bonus rooms, even worse since concept art showed off things like a snowball fight room
>underwater levels brought back, but no Enguarde/Rambi is the only animal buddy with Squawks as an item
>oxygen meter
>Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky aren't really partners, just glorified power-ups for DK
>Diddy feels useless compared to Dixie's hover hop and Cranky's ability to kill everything
>have to unlock hard mode
>default difficulty is still two Kongs with two hearts each instead of one
>disappointing secret world with only three levels
>no real build up to the final boss
>the polar bear was a better boss than the final boss
>diorama viewer is too zoomed in so you can't view everything as you rotate the figurines which actually have a lot of detail put into them
>sound test missing significant amount of songs when this is some of Wise's best work
>Cranky being playable means you've only got Funky to talk to and he's kind of boring
Intro stage is game design kino.
The rest is meh.
>I hope you don't feel like you wasted your money
I do.
Every time a DKC game comes out people rave about it and I think "maybe it won't be bad this time. There's no way they'll still be as bad as I think they are, is there?" And every time, I get bamboozled with a bad game.
I'm sorry you feel that way
>Nintendo announces Prime 4 when it's so early in development they can only show a logo
>Meanwhile Retro has been working on an unannounced game for 3 years
>make an entirely new game
>slap donkey kong characters in it
>brand it as a 20 year old precision platformer when it's just recycled cinematic indie platform trash
fuck every dipshit teenager and manchild who bought this Retro-developed shit. God damn you.
Mario always sells.
Donkey Kong doesn't have a dedicated developer. I don't consider Retro the IP's sole developer. Someone like Rare who was eager to make DK games and not held back by certain people wanting to do their own thing. The funny thing is Tropical Freeze was a fluke, The name Returns implied it was supposed to be a one-off. Outselling Zelda put it on the map and forced them to keep it there.
Plus, if it's not Mario it's usually a one-game-per-console deal. Zelda being the rare exception.
Look at everyone clamoring that they want an HD port of Returns and Tropical Freeze as a two package deal. It's easy to port a game than to make a new one.
That's not a good example, Retro was more or less the Metroid developer, and made three games in a five year timespan compared to the two games they did in seven years with DKC. Couple that with the Metroid fans bitching about another DK game and it's clear that DK is taking a backseat. Yes, I know Prime 4 isn't being developed by Retro, but my point still stands. The Wii U was a flop and Tatsumi is a businessman. If people want Wii U games on the Switch, they're getting them.
I assume were only counting console ones which is a shame because both 3DS kirby's are GOAT
None of those games are even remotely close to being as good as TF you nincompoop.
>Wario Land Shake It above games with actual platforming
Shake It's level design is bland as fuck. It just looks pretty. Kind of like Rainbow Curse.
I'm sorry user, that must be really frustrating for you.
It's probably even worse when you see people making threads like these. I bet it dredges up old feelings of disappointment and hurt.
>kirby
>platformer
at this point they're just easy beat em ups
>Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky aren't really partners, just glorified power-ups for DK
This is the biggest annoyance about this game. Retro had a big hard on for Dixie and making her invalidate Diddy in almost every way EXCEPT for his speed underwater.... which of course gets curbed half the time because Dixie's hair twirl is required for most hidden shit underwater anyway.
>have to unlock hard mode
Why is this a problem? Its not meant to be a difficulty setting, its meant to be an extra challenge that fills out 200%
Didn't you know user?
Sup Forums has to hate all games, irregardless of the actual quality.
I don't hate it but almost everything outside of the core game was meh to garbage. I'm still mad at how bad the bonus levels were, this shit was perfected back in DKC 2/3; they had no excuse.
>Implying they didn't just show the logo because they knew that would be enough for now
Why show off gameplay now when you'll get an insane reaction from the logo now AND the gameplay later?
who else is hoping Retro is working on the final installment in the new DKC trilogy? Since MP4 is a new team, apparently.
Don't you dare show me that nu-K. Rool from a spin-off fanfic tier sports game, you heretic fuck
>Its not meant to be a difficulty setting, its meant to be an extra challenge that fills out 200%
Some of us want that challenge unlocked by default? The heck, an option is now a bad thing?
Nigger, if you didn't get all 99 treasures you don't get to talk about the level design in WLS
The stages were designed in a way that you could run through them and basically bypass every interesting puzzle and platforming challenge. If you didn't get all 99 treasures, you cheated yourself out of a seriously good game.
Also that fucking soundtrack
youtube.com
triple deluxe was shit
>Its not meant to be a difficulty setting, its meant to be an extra challenge that fills out 200%
All it does is remove a Kong+heart. Why not have it available from the beginning?
Retro isn't making Prime 4 though.
source?
>no king k rool
cherrypick harder you nostalgic fuck
>source
>explicitly stated
nintendoeverything.com
why not just hurt yourself an extra time whenever you take damage. if you wanna play by those rules?
I'm sure a bunch of fuming manchildren bitched and moaned about the legitimacy of the original DKC games when they were released too. Doesn't change the fact that Returns and Tropical Freeze was aimed at neglected 2000's kids whose retarded parents bought them a fucking WII U. It's completely soulless and I probably wouldn't give a fuck if they didn't call it Donkey Kong Country, but they did and that makes it a completely different game misrepresented as nostalgia bait.
Well hard mode in this game prevents you from using any of the other kongs, and I don't think they wanted new players to experience the game that way.
You wouldn't be able to complete hard mode just starting the game with no prior experience with the level design.
It removes checkpoints too, so you are basically having to play every level and boss perfectly all the way through. If you can't unlock hardmode by 100% the game you are not going to beat the game in hard mode your first time
thanks for the source, user
I appreciate it
>and I don't think they wanted new players to experience the game that way
Then don't pick hard mode
>You wouldn't be able to complete hard mode just starting the game with no prior experience with the level design.
You don't fucking know me
I kinda want them to make their own IP honestly.
That or maybe donkey kong country as a 3D platformer.
Agreed, I'm honestly glad Retro stopped working in Prime, for Donkey Kong Country games, because they are so much better.
>You wouldn't be able to complete hard mode just starting the game with no prior experience with the level design.
That's fucking retarded, user. Anyone can start a game on a harder difficulty setting and still beat it.
>Agreed, I'm honestly glad Retro stopped working in Prime
This
You could tell they were burned out with MP3
>Tfw GameSpot gave this game a 6/10
You can do a lot more with tikis, then with penguins.
>You wouldn't be able to complete hard mode just starting the game with no prior experience
I'm glad literally no video game ever made prior to Tropical Freeze had difficulty settings you could choose.
>than
>IGN called the game too hard because they kept falling in pits
I think I might give this game another shot. Was the yoshi wooly world game any good? I recently started playing my wiiu again and it's seriously the most comfy console of all time, really having a blast.
Tropical Freeze was my GOTY 2014 and I still think Woolly World is slightly better. I actually found the Woolly World special stages more frustrating than most of the DKCTF special stages, especially since I was going for a 100% in the WW ones. Woolly Bill's Last Ride is the stuff of nightmares. Took me longer than all of 7 - 1, 7 - 2, and 7 - 3.
>Was the yoshi wooly world game any good?
It's alright, it's a much better game if you're a completionist. Finding all the hidden stuff is great.
definitely worth playing with a friend
Woolly World is better with a friend. Alone it's kind of boring and you realize it has worse bosses, aiming, movement than original YI.
