5 >=> 0 > 4 > 2 = 3 > 1/kiwami > kenzan

0 would be best if it had done more (read "anything") with the relationship between kiryu and majima and also majima's wife

1/kiwami -> 0 > 2 -> 4 -> 5 -> 3 -> dead souls

0 >= 2 > 4 > 1 > 3 >= 5

Such a fucking kino game series

Months later and I still don't understand what Kino is supposed to mean.

Is there a car chase/motor bike section in yakuza 1?

Something kino like the movie Sonatine for instance

Good artistic visuals

Yes. Yakuza 0 seemed to be made with Y1 remake in mind.

How 1+2HD anyways, they tried to go on the wiiu, but that sure fell flat.

I wish Majima was my husbando

Makes you wonder how they decided Shibusawa should be #1 between those three...

>nintendo fans
>buying anything other than nintendoshit
They really have shit taste almost on par with Xbox owners

Hell yeah I love those sections

That is one shitty opinion

0>2>4>5>3>1

Riki is too much of a joke personality to be the serious antagonist and Ozawa fits too much the tough guy that keeps on coming, so he defaulted to the position of the smart ploting guy.

5 is the worst game in the series.

japs still think being tanned as fuck is cool?

IT ACTIVATES YOUR ALMONDS

The hideout song from Yakuza 1 sounds like something Shoji Meguro would write for a MegaTen game

Fucking kino track desu

>5
>Best
I've only just started playing it but you are wrong. So far this is the most poorly written drawn out game in the series. I know for a fact that it isn't better than 3 or 4

Let me rephrase,
Makes you wonder how they decided he'd make a good yakuza character at all. You got these two guys who look rougher than actual yakuza, and then this pee wee herman looking motherfucker.

I mean, I like Shibusawa just fine, but the difference between the character and the actor in that (particular) picture could not be bigger.

I always got the impression playing the game that Kuze and Awano were more muscle/enforcer type guys that climbed the ranks through sheer badassery whereas Shibusawa was one of the smart, politicking ones who climbed the ranks through his brain rather than brawn.

I liked 4 over 3 because all the new characters made it fresh after 150~ hours of only playing as Kiryu. But it sucked that you only had access to Kamurocho after having had Osaka and Okinawa.

5 gave me the best of both worlds. The side activities were great and hugely varied, the Haruka part was a great palette cleanser and Park is one of my favorite characters in the entire series. And I love how batshit crazy and convoluted it gets, but I can see how it crosses the line for some people.

>tanned as fuck
>cool
yeah...GALO SENGEN

Did you see Outrage? That's probably why they ask him to participate.

Never played a yakuza game, but 0 looks pretty rad. Should I go for it or is it a bad place to start? Please advice, knowledgeable anons!

0 is a fine starting point, it has many nods to shit that happens in 1-5 since they came earlier, but you're not missing anything big.

Do it, it's a legit masterpiece, one of those games that takes you off guard by how novel and good the idea and execution is

...

Yeah, both of them. I don't remember him at all though. I guess I know what I'm doing today.
Oh, is he the guy who gets slashed in the face in 1 and then returns for 2?

It's possibly too good, meaning that the series will take a massive drop in quality of almost every single aspect if you go 0>1. If you're a patient guy who's not gonna drop the series because of that go ahead and start with 0, otherwise start with 1 so you can enjoy the iterative changes of each game.

He's the shiv guy in 1.

I love Majima in 0, but I hear he's a psycho in the main games. That sucks.

It's fantastic but you're starting at the technical high point.

If you really wanna dive deep it's better to start with 1.

2 is better than 1 but it's so connected to the first game it'd be a weird place to start.

3 is an easier place to start game-wise because it's a PS3 game, but many consider it a slog in the opening hours when you're running an orphanage and not kicking yakuza ass so much.

4 resets a lot of things character wise but is a bad way to get to know series main character Kiryu since his role in that game so so small it might as well not even exist at all. You can play through his part in like 2 hours.

Starting at 5 is insane.

So really, there's no ideal answer. Except maybe 1 and 2 HD if you can get it and read Japanese.

I wouldn't really recommend waiting for Kiwami either because going from that to 2 would also suck. Not to mention all the inside jokes that are set up in 0 and then get pay off in Kiwami.

I haven't played any Yakuza games yet, but own a ps3 and a good pc so I can emulate ps2. What order should I play the games? Will probably get a ps4 at the end of the year or next year for 0

Ishin>Y3>Y2>Y1>Y4>Y5>>Dead Souls
fite me

>That sucks
It doesn't it really really doesn't

I should've read the thread before posting and seen My bad

Emulation i hear is basicly perfect for these games. Just play in release order

It's a retarded Sup Forums forced meme that only a teenage redditor would use

He gets much more tame as the series goes on.

>tfw supervisor at work likes yakuza

>I wouldn't really recommend waiting for Kiwami either because going from that to 2 would also suck. Not to mention all the inside jokes that are set up in 0 and then get pay off in Kiwami.

When would you recommend Kiwami and 0 then?
I'm playing through 0 now and was gonna go 3 > 4 > 5 > Kiwami > 2 > 6 or is that just fucked?

Dont listen to the cancerous weebs user, I've played 1 and 2 halfway and the story is pure weebshit. the character is fully 2D but the fighting is fun in a streets of rage, simplistic kind of way.

get 0 as it ahs the best visuals by far, you just play the game to walk around tokyo, do assloads of different things, take in the atmos, do some button mashing, and understand why GTA 4/5 is so fucking boring.

>Yakuza 5 released for $39.90
>Kiwami at $25 USD
Meanwhile in Australia
>Yakuza 5 at $59.95 on release
>Kiwami at EBGames is priced at $69.95
RREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ozgameshop.

You should just play them in the order of the story. I don't know how you managed to end up with that Haruhi Suzumiya roadmap. But I don't think there would be a problem going from Kiwami to 2 because while the combat has improved, it honestly hasn't changed very much at all. Things are flashier but you still punch a dude a couple times to build up heat and then instant-kill them. 2 even starts you out with most of your moves, I think the only thing you're missing at the start is the counter you get by pressing kick just as you're being attacked.

As long as 0 comes before Kiwami, that's good. Although I will say that a lot of how important I think that is, is the result of side quest and activities stuff and not so much the main story. For example Pocket Circuit stuff. If you're not doing that at all in 0, then how it comes back in Kiwami will do nothing for you, except confuse you if you do engage with it there. The downside is that Kiwami is in many ways literally half the game 0 is, and the ways that are the same are extremely the same, to a fault, so putting a game or two between them might indeed be a good idea.

As for that order, I think putting 2 between Kiwami and 6 will be real weird, but it might be the lesser of exclusively bad options.

Okay cool, just wanted to play 3, 4 and 5 while I wait for Kiwami.

I thought it was coming out in a week and a half, but it's all the way at the end of August.
Then I guess it's up to you. I only got to play the first 2 when they came out and 2 is a direct sequel that's going to ruin the entire game if you play it first. I don't know what relation the others have to each other.

2 = 4 > Kenzan > 1 > 3 = Dead Souls.

I mean... yeah... but quality of life stuff is everything when moving from one yakuza game to the next, since that's just about all that changes between most of them. So I think going from 0/Kiwami (which still feel archaic in a lot of significant ways that 6 at least attempts to fix) all the way back to PS2 games is a nightmare.

>which still feel archaic in a lot of significant ways that 6 at least attempts to fix
What does 6 fix massively? Yeah, seamless shops and building are fantastic, in fights getting to seamlessly go from forward punches to behind you in an instant and then ahead of you again while still keeping the combo up is great, infinite storage on yourself is great, moving around in first person without it switching back to third is a great idea, and saving whenever you want is also great, but going from 4 to that demo didn't feel like that much has massively changed with regards to quality of life. Seamless buildings is basically the most massive one I can think of.

Here you go

Good image desu just replace Bloodborne with when Makoto finally got to see her brother ;_;

So pretentious term made by insufferable people?

I don't think you understand the joke

It's making fun of those pretentious people but started to get used unironically because it's a good meme descriptor

Seamless buildings, yeah. The biggest thing for me is probably that everything is voiced. I dunno, it's kinda hard to explain without sounding wishy washy but based on what I've played, it finally doesn't resemble a glorified PS2 game anymore. After 400+ hours of all the old games, it 'feels' different.

Of course, it's held back by bad performance, shitty combat and supposedly an inferior story, but at least the framework is different. I still think they should've done another spinoff though, to try things out first and then nail it with the first numbered PS4 only game, like they did with Kenzan and 3 on the PS3.

Can't you Google this shit?

Didn't 0 start the voiced stuff? I haven't played it personally but I know either 0 or Kiwami are supposed to have everything voiced as well.

I hope they make a 90s Majima spinoff

5 Started voices with ingame models conversations but 6 is the one where everything is voiced such as side quests

I fucking hate "DAS KINO XD" meme from reddi/tv/ but fuck me if this isn't god damn Kino

Why was Yakuza 6 so bad?
Not only the gampelay is garbage but did they want to end Kiryu's story with the worst fucking way possible?

They stopped taking advice from the crime novelist guy. I wonder what would happen if they still ask him for help after 2

When every frame of a film looks like a piece of art.

Absolutely not. There's as much 90s JRPG text scroll in that game as there is in any of the old games.

Well damn, and here I was looking forward to that in at least Kiwami. At least 6 has it then.
