I just don't understand how money would have any intrinsic value without a state enforcing it onto people. I mean even if its backed by gold or something if gold isn't valuable to me personally then it means jack shit.

The whole idea is that instead of holding normal human values, you hold power (money) as the most important thing. Basically you need to be a (((REDACTED))) rather than a human to fully understand it.
