How do you feel about using real life historical figures as in-game villains? Do you think it's fair given how pic related has been unfairly demonised more than any other video game villain in history, especially given how many games try to discuss the villains motives. But Sniper Elite 4 makes no attempt to discuss this villain's motives.
How do you feel about using real life historical figures as in-game villains...
Eh, what they gonna do, sue them?
>How do you feel about using real life historical figures as in-game villains?
only if they did evil shit in real life. Like Hitler.
Careful the alt right police is gonna get ya
This
Or Stalin, Marx, Lenin etc.
It depends. Naturally you want to take in to consideration whether or not the person can be considered a villain in the grand scheme of things.
Hitler is okay though. Disregarding neoGAF and antisemetism, he's become something of a legend. Presented right, seeing him can be pretty impactful. Devs should take advantage of that.
He literally did nothing wrong
>antisemetism
anticementism?
>Hitler
>unfairly demonised
lmao
Unfairly, no.
Ridiculously, yes.
>STOP PORTRAYING HITLER AS EVIL REE
This. But I'm getting real tired of seeing Hitler as a Big Bad all the time, can't the writers be more original?
>But Sniper Elite 4 makes no attempt to discuss this villain's motives.
SE4 never promoted itself as a game that gives an inside look into Hitler's life, motivations, flaws, strengths, etc. user. You play as an American sniper that goes around foiling the Third Reich. Hitler isn't even portrayed as a villain that much, he's just another target. They don't demonise him any more than other games/movies already do.
They're afraid of offending the antifa cuckboi baby men by making it Stalin or something.
It's because WW2 has been a relatively recent event. Nobody gives a fuck about ancient villains except for historyfags like myself. I'm sure every generation after the enemy has lost the leader of said enemy has been ridiculed a lot.
yes that is right goy, now don't forget to mention the 6 gorillion
Poland killed 58,000 Germans in the polish corridor in 1939 which is what triggered the invasion.
>marx
lol retard
History should remain history. So that said, I both think it's unnecessary, but I also feel it's irrelevant.
>unfunny Sup Forums and Reddit tier """jokes"""
Consider suicide. I bet you're NEET, too.
Evil shit like fighting for your tribe's interests and well being, yeah.
And what was the excuse for Barbarossa?
It's hard for uncreative writers to have characters slaughter massive amounts of people.
The majority of people have no sympathy for Nazi's of any kind thus people have no guilt killing them.
Ok your right, he did a lot of wrong things like attacking Russia during the winter.
Can you revise that post and write it in a less insufferable way?
If the time period is right I'm ok with it. Also Hitler made everyone hate the idea of National Socialism, fuck him.
This.
I don't have a problem with Hitler being a villain, but portraying him in a one dimensional way is starting to get old.
Socialism is shit, Fascism is where it's at.
I think it's fine. With something like Hitler and the Nazis it's good because they undoubtedly did lots ofnfucking horrible, villainous shit and they lost, so there's no repercussions for portraying accurately as bad guys, but it gets a bit overplayed. I'd like to see another historically bad nation get portrayed as villains more often, the British pretty had their own evil empire even during WW2 and invented concentration camps in South Africa, and the Americans stuffed all their Japanese citizens in camps too, but itd5be rare to get a game about stuff like that because people will lose their fucking shit, just like all the Brits did on here when Assassin's Creed 3 was coming out.
I concede that was a strategic error, but it was justified because Russia had invaded his ally Romania, against the terms of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, which Germany depended on for oil. Also Russia had instigated a coup in Yugoslavia, Germany's ally. Molotov had been making brazen demands in defiance of the Non-Aggression pact, like demanding access to the sea through Neutral turkey and control of Istanbul. Overall Russia was behaving very aggressively and threatening Germany, and in fact all Russian army divisions in the border were in forward attack positions. The fact they were in forward attack positions rather than in defense positions indicates they were preparing an attack, in fact this is why Germany was able to make such huge gains and encircle them at the start of Barbarossa.

As Churchill said: "History is written by the victors". No one mentions antisemitism in USA during WWII, nobody knows what kind of shit even happened in Yugoslavia, and everyone is forgetting freaking atom bombing of Japan, meanwhile everyone says how Nazis were bad people, and stuck up Germans try to redeem themselves and erase every detail from that part of the history.
you need to be 18+ to post here
The best way to handle historical figures is to allow the player to choose his side so that he can see the reasoning behind each person's actions as historically in character as possible.
@383790352
What about pirates? Who has sympathy for sea thieves?
Who is innocent, the man that kills, or the man that teaches him how to?
The answer is neither
>or the man that teaches him how to.
Marx wrote about famine, not arming your people with AKs.
How come history nerds are worse and more obnoxious than D&D/Star Wars/Whatever nerds?
