bs
Wow, 47 is a really young age to die.
Don't do this shit user. George deserves better.
Make some fucking zombie cracks at his expense instead.
I guess black room or whatever is pretty much dead considering there is still no demo on the thing.
A plague on your family and a potato famine on your country you filthy devil
No.
He collected gas station memorabilia and has assembled a replica gas station with vintage pumps.
Fighting demons in Martian hell now
F
Such an odd hobby
romero's aftermath was a bad game and he should feel bad
That's the wrong guy moron. John Romero is the white nerdy guy. That is a picture of John Carpenter, who is still alive.
RIP in piece, Zizek. We will remember you always for giving us Dwarf Fortress.
It's not much different from trainfags assembling a replica railcar in their basement
Still weird as fuck, but a familiar sort of weird
>reading through Masters of Doom right now
>those comfy chapters at the lake house
>that time Romero crossed a stream of waist high water in the middle of the storm just to program with Carmack
>get to the Doom 2/Quake chapters
>everyone hates each other
feels bad
>"You're not doing your work! You're not living up to your responsibilities. You're hurting the project. You're hurting the company. You've been poisonous to the company, and your contribution has been negative over the past couple years. You needed to do better but you didn't. Now you need to go! Here's a resignation and here's a termination! You're going to resign now!"
John Carmack to Romero on the day of his termination on August 6, 1996.
Why was Carmack such an asshole?
BATTLE AXE
BATTLE AXE
it's hard to shit on it really.
>>get to the Doom 2/Quake chapters
>everyone hates each other
I'm not familiar with the drama. What happened?
Penn Jillette is still alive idiot.
>Become millionaire
>Live in a service station
He wanted to work, Romero wanted to be a rockstar. You can definitely sympathise with Romero because of his upbringing and it's hard to deny that I wouldn't do the same if I was in his shoes, but Carmack was right to kick Romero out if he wouldn't knuckle down and do some actual work.
Is John taller than Todd?
What did Carmack mean by this?
trains aren't weird wtf
Autism. The useful kind, not the Sup Forums kind.
After Doom II came out id was falling apart.
Carmack was programming the engine for Quake while Romero was off living his rock star fantasies after the success of Doom instead of working on the game.
The other member of id were mostly level designers and artists and they were growing tired of Romero half assing work, Carmack's authoritarian rule and the fact that they were working on another space marine game.
Romero got fired then he started Ion Storm, a game company where "design is law" and instead of running it like a business, he ran it like a summer camp, hiring anyone and everyone including random Doom fans.
Afterwards, id just kept making Quake because all design after Romero's departure revolved around what Carmack's engines were made to handle.
RIP Mitzi
I knew this was coming
Cool if true
could he really be considered a millionaire anymore? he resorted to kickstarter to make mobile games.
Railfans are weird as fuck homeskillet.
Why would you use all of your own money? I'm sure he covered like half or something.
Fuck off with your e-celeb shit
Developers of games are now considered e-celebs?
>You can definitely sympathise with Romero because of his upbringing
What was his upbringing?
...
His dad bailed on his family and his step-dad was an abusive ex-military that didn't want him playing games or programing.
dumbass weeb
He grew up in a gas station.
Poor as fuck, his biological Dad bailed on him as an infant and his Stepdad was a Mexican who joined the air-force for citizenship.
>Scott Miller wasn’t the only one to go before id began working on Doom.
Mitzi would suffer a similar fate. Carmack’s cat had been a thorn in the side of
the id employees, beginning with the days of her overflowing litter box back
at the lake house. Since then she had grown more irascible, lashing out at
passersby and relieving herself freely around his apartment. The final straw
came when she peed all over a brand-new leather couch that Carmack had
bought with the Wolfenstein cash. Carmack broke the news to the guys.
>“Mitzi was having a net negative impact on my life,” he said. “I took her
to the animal shelter. Mmm.”
>“What?” Romero asked. The cat had become such a sidekick of Carmack’s
that the guys had even listed her on the company directory as his significant
other–and now she was just gone? “You know what this means?” Romero
said. “They’re going to put her to sleep! No one’s going to want to claim her.
She’s going down! Down to Chinatown!”
>Carmack shrugged it off and returned to work. The same rule applied to a
cat, a computer program, or, for that matter, a person. When something be-
comes a problem, let it go or, if necessary, have it surgically removed.
>Why was Carmack such an asshole?
carmack is a literal sociopath
RIP
romero is a cool dude
Carmack is fucking stone cold
I always assumed the train people were more interested in the landscape building for the trains
I watched alot of videos on how to sculpt stuff out of foam from people doing it for trains and repurposed it into backdrops for my terrariums
Mmm.
mm
>I always assumed the train people were more interested in the landscape building for the trains
That's an incredibly weird assumption on your part.
the train people are autistic, and do it because it soothes their autism.
but then as a tankfag you're probably on the spectrum as well
I always thought it was because trains are fast. Same thing with Sonic.
trains are predictable and orderly and have lots and lots of routes and rivets to catalog and categorize
he was right though
Carmack was right though and there's nothing wrong with telling lazy assholes to work or get out.
so he has autism
>passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday while listening to the score of one of his all-time favorite films, The Quiet Man
That's a good question. Did Romero even still have money? I thought after everyone from ID became a millionaire, Romero bought expensive sports cars, huge houses, boats and had a gf who was a model, I doubt he has much money left after his lifestyle and the financial failure Daikatana was.
No.
>mfw trash man is a Trump supporter
What the fuck are you talking about?
what about stealing trade secrets
But he's a lefty Libertarian. That makes no sense.
Penn? Pretty sure he wasn't.
that's legally wrong, not morally wrong
I guess you've never been the guy in the workplace who has to pick up the slack for that one chucklefuck who does nothing all day.
This thread is memeing, George Romero died.
He went through multiple divorces. The guy really can't get his shit together.
You present it a bit more as specific people's fault than it necessarily was during Quake's development. According to Romero, and this makes perfect sense, the problem with the development of Quake 1 was that things had to keep being scrapped and remade as the engine changed since what exactly was going to work was so unpredictable.
During the development of all their previous games, work could be done on the rest of the game without the tech being 100% there yet but in the case of Quake you had both added complexity due to everything being a 3D model and level design was much more difficult to conceptualize due to the focus on showing off the full 3D aspect of the game, not enough just to have level over level, you needed to have multiple layers all visible simultaneously or maps built entirely around verticality.
Romero's said that he thinks id probably could have survived as they were if they understood project management better and had everyone work on more Doom/Wolfenstein material while Quake's tech was being developed rather than having everyone burn out by throwing away all their work constantly. This idea that some people were lazy or others were tyrannical is just trying to assign blame when they were just young guys who underestimated the difficulty of what they were doing.
You need such a character threat to get your company running. And like we see now: he was correct with his behavior. Carmack is still a big name in the industry, still get lots of money, get still hired for promising projects while Romero is now a literal "Who?" who lived out his money and it's questionable if he even still has money.
i see what you did there
Depends on the modeller(s) in question, but generally it's about recreating the image and feeling of a given era. Some trainfags go beyond simple models give up their free time to run preserved railways operating full size vintage locomotives and rolling stock. I can think of weirder hobbies than recreating the past.
t. user from a family of trainfags
That looks pretty sweet man, I can see the appeal
Whatever you say Carmack.
It's mostly about the nostalgia of an era, thrill or feeling of a roadtrip/journey, decorum and design and maybe most importantly the imposing loud machinery and industrial vibe.
Much like how cyberpunk fags get hard on dirty old subwaystations/ac-units/green computer displays, neonlights and hovercars.
Or steampunk fags for cogs, brass, steam and cocks.
His newer movies were dead on arrival tho.
sometimes i give you weebposters the benefit of the doubt, but you are beyond retarded
>Bleach creator dies
>OP posts picture of Noriyuki Iwadare
>Rip in piece Noriyuki Abe
>implying people won't also report it for blatantly not trying to talk about vidya but celebrities instead
so he's not hispaniard?
No.
Trainfags are interested in miniaturization. Trains are just the most involved form of that.

Hey faggots
Wanna learn more about what John Romero is up to nowadays? Check this
I'm a manlet and even I laughed at his height god damn it
He may have been a rockstar who did terrible decisions over the years, but it's partially thanks to him that we got Deus Ex.
A force of both good and evil
Thank fuck that Ion Storm had 2 studios.
Wasn't than eidos decision?
Romero hired Spector.
Wut happened?????
George Romero died.
Oh shit!
One thing he got right.
But Spector was in Austin and Romero was in Dallas. Separate studios on separate projects.
heh
Didn't he literally choke out that one dude that interviewed him?
...
He sells CDs on eBay occasionally, so I'm assuming he's not doing all that fantastically, since as said before, he lived a pretty extravagant lifestyle in the '90s and '00s.
Would Doom royalties even amount to much these days?
