Comfy Sonic Mania Thread

The wait is almost over, bros.

I just woke up from a dream where it was out and I was playing it, and the special stage was Sonic Xtreme.

>the special stage was Sonic Xtreme

Seeing as Taxman has a stiff for cut content, this seems likely.

Anyone have the ghz map?

>when your fans make a better game than you

What are your expectations for the music quality in Sonic Mania?
I mean, it's obvious that the music will be good judging by Mirage Saloon, Studiopolis, and the inclusion of Stardust Speedway, but do you think the music for this game will be well-received like the classics?

The wait is so hard I wish I could just cryofreeze myself until it comes out. I can't stop thinking about the hypothetical circus/magic themed new zone.

What new things do you think they will reveal at Comic Con?

inb4 it's fucking nothing

I think the music will be as well received as most sonic games: very well

I just want to see Rosy the Rascal make an appearance in Sonic Mania to be completely honest

Yeah I think so. Tee Lopes has already shown in multiple places that he's a music making genius, and what he's given us so far with Studiopolis Act 1, Mirage Saloon Act 2, Green Hill Act 2, Chemical Plant Act 2 and the boss theme has basically all been fantastic.

Part of me wants them to reveal a bunch of shit so the wait is less excruciating, and part of me wants them to leave everything else a surprise. I'm being torn in half.

Mirage Saloon is already iconic.

I hope nothing. I want the rest of the game to be a total surprise.

DU DU DU DU DUUUUUUUUU

I'd call Studiopolis' theme more iconic at this point, but Mirage Saloon's track is still great.

>all offical art of the game sonic is dark blue, his original colour
>ingame sprite light blue

I know this is the same has SONIC HAS BLUE ARRRMMS but this triggers me for some reason.

Come on Mania bros, have some heart and spoiler this image for people who don't want it spoiled.

It looks to be the same person that did the art for Sonic the Screensaver back in the day so these colors are just what they remember/know.

Everyone must gaze at Egg Garden's beauty

More likely it's Pagoda West guys emulating the style with Sega's guidance, right down to the coloring.

We don't even know what it actually is. Still largely a surprise to us too.

>Egg Garden
now where have I heard that name before?

Whenever I listen to the Mirage Saloon music, my inner ear gets an erection.

Some people were thinking that the zone is a revamped version of Egg Garden from Taxman's first game. It probably isn't though.
I did hear from another thread that apparently it could be a new section of Hydrocity Act 2 from some beta tester's mouth.

youtube.com/watch?v=r7cg7Qd_23k

Doesn't look like the foreground from Hydrocity, Even Chemical Plant Act 2 uses the same foreground.

His probably completely wrong word not mine

I'm not prepared for this, mates.

This is NOT finished

some autism user, DO IT. FINISH IT. USE THE FOOTAGE WE'VE GOT.

It's not worth it at this point. Maybe for act 2?

It'll be more accurate when someone gets hold of the final game. Gamexplain will likely do a tour of Green Hill Zone.

Or that one Sonic map site will just do maps for all the zones.

If Zone 0 doesn't add a mania section I'll be pretty bummed

When people try to drop the lol romhack rehash, those official maps are going to shut them the fuck down, can only imagine how big Studio will look.

It would be great, but the site hasn't had a new article since 2014. Hopefully Sonic Mania brings them back from the dead like it did for Cybershell. I want maps and cute descriptive reviews of every zone.

i had a dream but it was a PC port of panzer dragoon orta

There have been several decisive shooting the fuck downs of the meme. That will never stop the shit posting. Unfortunately, it will only worsen a couple weeks after the games post release honeymoon period.

>Implying they'll just say it anyway because shitposting

Manias the first of its kind since 94. If it won't revive the site, nothing will.

I alread hate the invincibility track and the boss one. Studiopolis and MS are comfy without being truly great.

Also this shitty art is a testimony of the Dark Ages we need to forget.

Never really played much of Sonic outside of over a friend. Should I play 1-3/&Knuckles? Or only Sonic 2/3/&Knuckles since I've heard Sonic 1 is iffy.

Play all of them. Most people don't like Sonic 1 because it didn't have the spin dash yet.

Try Sonic CD as well. If you don't like the gameplay, then listen to the soundtrack (US and JP versions).

In order of essentiality

3k - the definitive one
Cd - the creative black sheep
2 - entry level standard fare
1 - sloppy humble beginning gs

I'd say all 4 are worth a go if you know what to look for out of tbem

I'm not the biggest fan of 1, but it's only like half an hour to complete.
I don't like it because for all the supposed emphasis on platforming it has it sure is really basic and dull.

If you can make it through Labyrinth you're fine.

Try 1 and if you're not enjoying it go to 2.

>lol romhack
as long as they keep the rehashed old levels and music, it will be called a romhack. no amount of remixing is going to change that we've played those levels and songs to death.
>but muh layouts
I take it you'd be ok with sega selling you megamix at $20?

I'd say just start on 2.

are you a shill?

i had a dream two nights ago that it was a week before release and i got to play it early and i got so excited i woke up

fuck this gay earth

Think I might do that. Seem everyone feel it's flawed but since it's not long it's not that bad.

Just wondering is Sonic 3 different than & Knuckles or are they the same game just a bit more to it?

Probably worth at least playing Green Hill Zone because it's simple enough to not be tedious like much the rest of the game, and is so heavily referenced, notably in Sky Sanctuary Zone.

play them in order. sonic 1, then 2, then 3, then s & k. then play either sonic cd or sonic 3 & k.

they're not revealing anymore zones iirc

They were always suppose to be one big game, but got cut in two for a bunch of reasons.
There's no reason to play Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles separately.

personally i am interested in leaderboards

i just hope there isn't some clipping out of bounds bullshit this time, where highscores are like 3 seconds for a level

and no cheaters

There's a couple of reasons to play Sonic 3 alone such as music and final boss amongst other small things.

It'll get cheaters for sure dude, it sucks but Sonic CD's leaderboards were rapes with them.

The user can also play Sonic 3 Complete, that thing gives you all the options you would want including music ones.

Just play 3 Complete.

I totally expect leaderboards.

You can just play Sonic 3 Complete instead if you want Sonic 3 mini boss music and such during the & Knuckles half of the game.

It's built from the ground up. There's literally no romantic being hacked.

Out of curiosity, does 3 complete use the changed stages from 3&K? Stuff like the changing those spikes in hydropolis into an one-up?

Sonic and knuckles is the secons half of sonic 3. So they are the same game

Who knows, it's been a while since the Sonic CD version of the engine. The Mania engine has probably been more tuned up and won't allow cheating too bad.

again, it's an option. sonic 3's original level difficulty is used by default, though, yes.

>yfw playing the cathedral level
>yfw the hard boiled heavy crashes through a stained glass window to start the fight

most of the default options in Sonic 3 Complete will "Sonic 3-ify" the whole game, if that makes sense

Is there any other examples of that? I thought about it but people are pretty sure it was a coding error so I wasn't sure if it should count towards something like this.

>yfw cathedral level
>yfw get to the boss room, hard boiled heavy is sitting with his back to your playing a giant piano

There's still a spring to the right of the one-up, making you lose progress in running away from the wall if you just roll into it. It was intentional.

Another thing that proves this is that Launch Base was full to the brim with Robotnik Monitors in the lower paths, but there's like only one in the 3&K version.

Seems that complete leaves the hard mode by default.

I like that 3 Complete makes Launch Base Act 2 a bitch again. Just like it should be.
Also like how it brought back Big Arm.

when people say mania is a romhack they don't mean a literal rom that was modified. they mean "why are we getting old zones again with different layouts? they can do better than that", which is true. anyone can edit the layout of a stage from art that already exists. the level design might not necessarily be good but that doesn't change that it comes across as "minimal effort" to some fans. for that you can blame sonic team or sega or whoever. we could've had a completely original game but no. got to remind us for the hundreth time of green hill, chemical plant, flying battery, and any other zones we've seen and played for the last 20 something years.

Guy that asked about the Genesis Sonic games. What is Sonic 3 Complete? Honestly never heard of it only 1-3 & Knuckles.

It's a hack rom that combines Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckles like the one large game it was always suppose to be. You can change a whole bunch of things in the menu before you load the game from changing music to changing object layouts.

Compiler that lets you chose since options and create a ROM of S3K with whatever elements of S3 or S&K you want plus some bonus changes I think.
I don't personally use it because I'm a purist and consider the release version to be the most appropriate for playing but I understand the appeal.

Perfection.

Also 10 on google.

What's Mirage Saloon Act 1 gonna be like?

Is the animation actually making the bubble shield shimmer accordingly? I love it.

Dust Hill.

This but finished & with slightly different music:

The mountains in the background are gonna be closer.

I wonder why they removed the bull skull.

Rank Special Stages
3>1>CD>2

Sadly none of them are that great but I'm hopeful for Mania.

Chaotix>CD>3>1>2

There's that word again.

Source of image? Google image search gives me nothing.

From the 'Mega Drive' Archie comic iirc

Sonic Mega Drive. It's the last Archie Sonic comic spinoff before the comic died, and it even didn't get to finish.
Give it a read, best thing to come out of the comics in years.

Is this just a portion of Flying Battery, or is it still something they haven't shown off yet?
