You actually time attacks. If you hit the guy before he finishes his attacks, you get a stunning and soul. That's why all your attacks on the first chain should be something fast and easily accessible. Doesn't really matter in normal, but in chaos all the button mashing gets you only so far.

Alternatively just wait for one of your mages to get a hit in then go bash away. That said on Chaos rokurou becomes a much better character to use.

I'm still in the middle of Berseria but the witch is probably my favorite so far.

so far (only like 11 hours in, just got Eizen, the pirate leader), i love this game for that fact. havent had this much fun with a tales game since vesperia. the protag is someone you can totally relate to, spurred on by feelings of rage and revenge. so far the other party members feel like actual people, with hopes and dreams, skills and faults.

Even the cities have a uniqueness to them, the three i've been to having their own feel. And none of this even mentions the combat, which is better than any tales I think I've played. Way better than fucking zestiria anyway.
