i just got hold of an original xbox and i want to hook it up to my hd tv. i don't really know much about video games, so i'm just gonna ask here. what kind of cables looks best image quality wise? rgb scart or component cables? i know the image output is going to be SD anyway, but what is going look best on a HD tv?

They will all probably look the same on an hdtv. Just go with component.

Xbox can do 720p senpai
component (three cables for video) of course (not composite, one cable for video)
rgb is for the past

Component cables are better - you can do progressive scan (480p) and in a handful of games even HD (720p)

Component or RGB.
Use "movie" image mode on your TV (slightly muted colours and less sharp)

And PS2 could do 1080i, but most games did not support it. Same with Xbox Hueg.

alright, thanks for the replies!

Component for sure, although fuck knows if your tv will have a component input. I don't think my UHD has anything other than HDMI. You may ironically need to get the adapter to run it out of the ariel socket, which is fuckin hilarious really.

>tfw this is the nicest thread on Sup Forums right now

Don't forget to play Mech Assault and Metal Wolf Chaos

rgb can't progressive scan, he'll be stuck with SD

component is best analog video connection, period

Play Armed and Dangerous, if looks terrible but it's funny

MWC is jap only.

It''s not that hard to figure out. A lot of text is in English and all Voices are in English too.

Yes, but he would have to import a Japanese xbox just to play it.

Well I was under impression that people just modded the shit out of their Xbox usually.
Having mod + harddrive is pretty great

Or just hack your Xbox.

Forgot you could do that with xboxes. Been wanting to do the hdd mod for my ps2 and hack my wii u for a while but i just havent. Afraid to mess them up i guess. Only system ive ever "modded" was my dreamcast.

ninja gaiden black
tony hawk 2x
crimson skies
splinter cell chaos theory
jet set radio future

get these games

>And PS2 could do 1080i, but most games did not support it. Same with Xbox Hueg.

Actually there are 1-2 Xbox games that can do 1080i too. But there's far more 720p games.

YOu don't even need to mod PS2, just get IDE+LAN adapter, find decent fittable IDE HDD and here you go, with FreeMCBoot you can use OpenHDLoader.
I wish I had modded dreamcast tho, burning CDs is a pain

Ill look it up. Thanks.

Yeah i love my dreamcast. That gdemu software has a nice user interface. I have every US game and a handful of jap games on 6 sd cards. Its great.

>hack my wii u for a while but i just havent
Best to get on that one sooner than later. There's nothing stopping Nintendo from plugging the Brain Age exploit, and without that you'd need to launch a web browser and shit everytime you boot up.

>Afraid to mess them up i guess
I
You don't mod the PS2 for HDD, it was designed to have one in the first place.

Things you need: ancient IDE HDD, official Network Adapter, one of those USB hard drive adapter things
Process: plug HDD up to your PC with USB adapter
Format HDD to PS2's format
Install a premade disk image with FreeHDBoot on it
plug HDD to Network Adapter
Plug Network Adapter into PS2
That's it!

Unless you've got a slim, then you're messing about with external USB drives

with freeMCBoot only thing you'll need is to get files somehow on PS2 memorycard. You someone's else modded PS2 to copy files from burned dvd to memory card or memory card adapter of sorts for PC.

I wish I had soldering skills

I have it offline.
Sweet. Ill be looking this up later. Thanks.
No soldering required. The dreamcast gdemu chip is literally plug and play. It completely replaces and emulates the gdrom amd plugs right in its place. Was a 5-10 mintue job.

OH SHIT
Where I can get one?

It's pretty expensive.

I have SD2SNES user, I think I can handle that. eventually

Now that we have a thread regarding the original Xbox, i would like a suggestion. Should i invest in an original Xbox just for playing JSRF or should i wait eternally for an emulator/PC realease?

>I have it offline.

You either need to pop it online to quickly and easily install Haxchi into a copy of Brain Age you bought from the VC, and then disconnected from the internet.

Or! You keep it offline, dedicate a PC to be a server and connect it to a local network. Your local PC has a viral payload it hits your Wii U with every time you boot it up and load up a web browser....

Xbox can do 1080i as well, but 720p has more pixels

It will never get emulated or a PC release.

Consider getting an Xbox for the other Sega releases too.

Can you give me some recommendations?

Softmod it and upgrade to a 500gb IDE HDD

1920 * 540 = 1036800
1240 * 720 = 892800
You are incorrect.

Panzer Dragoon Orta, Outrun 2 (more accurate than the 2006 release but less content), GunValkyrie come to mind. But there's other stuff too.

Meh, you still get artifacts during faster gameplay with 1080i

Thank you very much, i'll check them out later and see xbox prices

I mean you can get one for $40, soft mod it, upgrade to a bigger HDD, and install XBMC on it. It's decently useful

That's field resolution not frame resolution.

Here, I dug up a guide:
github.com/FlimFlam69/WiiUTutorial/wiki/3:-Installing-HaxchiFW-&-The-Homebrew-Launcher-Channel

Step 3 is the goal. Step 0 is easy, just download stuff. Step 1 is pointless because you'll disconnect from the net when your done. Step 2 just tells you to bookmark a url on your Wii U's browser so you can launch the homebrew channel.

...

>forgetting Otogi 1 and 2

use some good quality component cables, the cheap ass ones have signal noise or the colors will crap out after a year.
