FINAL FANTASY 9

Just beat FF9, and it was damn good.
Only FF games I'd played before this were 13 and 15, and while I thought they were OK for different reasons, they didn't hold a candle to this.
I want to play more of the series in the future, so which should I put at the top of my list? I'm most interested in 8 and 10 right now.

Now to attempt Ozma again...

Play 7, the best one.

I'm considering it, but the graphics don't seem to have aged well, especially the character models. I'd wait for the remake but it doesn't look like its going to be an accurate remake of the original, at least gameplay wise.

7 isn't the best one, don't listen to that faggot.

You just played the best 3D Final Fantasy game. Play 6 to experience the best 2D Final Fantasy and then call it a day.

>graphics
Lad, you've already dipped your feet in the ps1 pool. The water was always murky.

Remaster when?

I'm not really a graphics fag, and I could probably get over it after a few hours, but it just irks me a bit that they all look like triangles, especially considering how good they look for the time in 9.

>graphics
Nigga, you're right you definitely shouldn't play FF7.

Play 10. It's the only right answer.

3 remake, 4 remake, 10 and 12 zodiac age

but nothing will top 9, sorry

8 is my favorite FF game, user.
In fact, the PS1 era is the golden age of Final Fantasy in my opinion; so, 9 is one of my favorites, too.

Tell me what you liked about 9, and I can suggest to you where to go from here.
I've beaten every FF game, excluding 2, 3, 11, and 13. I even finished ARR and Heavensward MSQ in 14.

swap 8 and 9 and i agree.

so god tier is actually meme tier, right?

IX is my favorite. Ive played alot of FF and ita still the best. 7 and 8 are close behind. PS1 really was the golden age of FF. If you are up for a different kind of game try Tactics

- also, why do people still hate on 13? I thought it was just a phase. I mean sure, the first half sucks but chapter 9 and on is god-tier.

>but chapter 9 and on is god-tier.

IX is the pinnacle of oldschool FF. Play X to see what XIII and XV should've been. Or don't, because after you've played IX and X everything else is just kind of meh.

>Tell me what you liked about 9
Theres nothing major in it that I think is god tier, I just thought it was overall really good. I liked the battle system despite it being fairly simple because I havent played a whole lot of turn based RPG's aside from all the pokemon games. I also liked how gear and stats and stuff was pretty easy to understand and I didnt feel like I was missing a ton of mechanics because they werent explained well. Story was good too, I got a bit emotional at the end. Oh and any time a game goes into the 'theres actually a higher power outside of what you know of the world and were going to show you it first hand' thing I love it. Bonus points if I get to fight anything thats an invincible god.

I'll admit I turned on the mode that speeds up the game when I was doing the chocobo sidequest, friendly monsters sidequest and whenever I was backtracking to save some time, so I may have liked it less if it took me 5x longer to said things.

Stop making these fucking threads. No one cares about your autistic obsession with FF9.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate, but this is the first time I've ever posted about FF9 on Sup Forums.

8 is my all-time favorite for personal/nostalgia reasons; so, it's not a game I suggest very often, since I know it's an unpopular opinion.
The only reason I didn't put 9 in God Tier is because I didn't want to put too many games in that tier.
I will say, however, that 9 is the perfect culmination of everything FF was about up until that point. It just really did a great job of representing what both the classic and more modern FFs had to offer, and the story/characters/world really highlighted that, especially towards the end.
It's got the most satisfying ending in the series, too, in my opinion. Really leaves nothing else to be desired, y'know?
"Bring my precious dagger to me!"
i cri evertiem

That being said, I love all the games I listed in the top two tiers.

Everyone considers 8 to be general bad and a miss step for the series.

If it's between ff8 and 10, just do 10.

Sounds to me like you'd really like FF4.
It's got a more classic battle system with characters that have specific roles, unlike FF7, FF8, or FF10 where every character can learn everything.
The story also has themes involving "higher powers outside your world", but then again, every Final Fantasy kind of does. I think 4 has it in the flavor you're looking for, though.
Check out the DS or PC version of FF4. That's my suggestion.

Ending made me tear up. It ends on such a perfect note.

...

I'm gonna post more cute Tifa, too.
Fuck it.

>I'm considering it, but the graphics don't seem to have aged well
They haven't changed at all though??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

FF8 has the best late-game/optional stuff out of any FF and I'd say JRPG period.
>Odin/Gilgamesh
>Tonberry King
>Jumbo Cactuar
>Queen of Cards
>Deep Sea Research Lab
>Island Closest to Heaven/Hell
>Pu quest I never fucking bothered to do
>Doomtrain
I'm sure there's other funky business I'm forgetting.

...

...

you're forgetting the squid people into lions place thing

...

...

>Tifa
>fapfuel for generations
>barely any real good looking fanart out there
Explain this.

>all the doujins are rape/prostitution shit
fuck I wish japan wasn't so obsessed with dumb shit

>Pinnacle of old school Final Fantasy
>IX

I didn't know this was a comedy thread.
But seriously if its old school Final Fantasy then where is the Job System?

5 has the same kind of lightheartedness that 9 has
4 is similar with set roles instead of a job system
imo 1, 4-10 are all fine as is 12 even if it triggers some autist

user FF9 is 17 years old. Thats older than like 2/3's of Sup Forums.

>Beatrix goes full fucking retard because muh knights oath to an insane queen
>Commits genocide multiple times over and ends countless lives for no goddamn reason
>Everyone instantly forgives her after the queen dies except Freya of course and is never punished for her stupidity
>She even gets best boy Steiner

Its just not fucking fair

right next to 4 my second favorite title

VII is my fave but VI is objectively better.

>Job System
>Literally only in 3 and 5

IX doesn't have a job system, but you're a complete idiot if you didn't realize that every member of the party is an homage to a classic FF job.

Are you the same user that started with 15 and made a thread asking for suggestions on where to go next and everyone suggested 13?

If so then I'm glad you're actually making your way through the series, hope it's fun user-kun

...

There is a lack of Freya

...

...

why are guardettes so PERFECT

9 had awful slow battles and too little customization. 6 and 7 are best in the series. 10 onwards is generally bad. Too much unskippable cringe cutscenes with characters that just dont feel real or fleshed out.

Nah that wasnt me. I did however make a thread asking which one to play having only played 13 and 15, and ended up choosing 9.

The outfit choices of Alexandrians is just perfect

What do I use to emulate this? Psx or whatever it's called?

Started playing V today. It's pretty fun but I always feel like I'm not leveling up my jobs correctly.
Should I be cycling through as many jobs as possible on all characters or should I just be sticking with a few on each character? Just unlocked the second set of jobs right now.

...

...

...

>nobody ever heard from Zidane again

...

You can only use 1 extra ability at a time (or 2 on a freelancer) so its only important to have one extra ability leveled really per character to take advantage of it

It can help to pick synergistic stuff though like mystic knight on a chracter you plan to move around on physical classes

Its not too imporant though, just pick what you need for the moment and youll be ok for the most part, weird combos work ok too like throwing black magic on dragoon still is reasonably effective

V is real easy to break. You don't have to level up all the jobs, you can just go with a basic theme idea for each character and have them stick with it. Like make Bartz your main tanky dude and so level up Knight, Dragoon, and Samurai with him, make Lenna your main support mage so level White and Time Mage, etc.

>The water was always murky
Not on PC ;)

Yeah I didn't enjoy 15 either it was pretty meh.
Gonna give 9 a whirl though.

I always just go through str based classes for butz. Lenna and galuf get alternated through the mage classes. Faris starts as a thief, then goes to the weird shit like dancer and bard. There is your op setup

You should play VI, V, I, II, III
VIII is pure garbage and so is X

I've beaten VII, XIII, and XV
I've gotten to the end but never finished IV, VIII, and X
Which should I play next or play again?

Posting best girl

Why did they put Cammy in FF?

Why her crotch is naked?

It's a pink bodysuit

I want to be Quina to taste my friends.

There's little information on what you liked about them, but based on completion, play VI you'll probably complete it too and then play V, so we can know how you'll react to that.

No matter what anyone says, FF4 to 12 are all worth playing. Even FFX-2 has its merits through the combat system.

Most will probably put VI, VII and X at the top of their lists, as those got the most mainstream exposure when Square was in their prime. IMO you have already played the best one, but each one is an experience worth enjoying.

FF13-2 is a fairly solid time travel jrpg, but just understand the company that made FF1-12 is not the same company that made everything after that. Hironobu Sakaguchi and many other major players left the company, with weirdos like Nomura, Tabata and Toriyama taking their places, somewhat unwarranted.

Just assume FF died with XII and enjoy the games up to that point as much as you can.

Honestly despite peoples opinion, you really should go into VII next. Its very similar to IX in many ways, it will be easier to be immersed.

VII is argued about a lot on here because it is very well done. You wont be let down just cuz the graphics aged bad. From there go to X, its a nice upgrade in graphics and gameplay.

Other notable entries are IV,VI,XII

another weird thing is how little effort square put into the FFVII pc port with the awful blurry-ass backdrops, but somehow the FF9 remake by Silicon Studios Thailand is crisp as fuck, the FMVs, textures, even the upscaled prerendered backdrops look fairly sharp.

it's bizarre when the contrast in levels of "giving a shit" are so obvious

8s for 8

I've started the series when VIII came out and went through Tactics, IX, VII, X, X-2, XI, XII, XIII trilogy, XIV, XV but haven't finished a single classic title for some reason. I just drop it around 3/4 and never go back.

Trying to go through IV again after few years on my phone. Am I fucked for picking 3D and not emulating the old one? Is it better or worse?

Also, I finially understood why these games lack the charm that VII-IX have. There's hardly a memorable location. I mean, every castle and town look basically the same, you just come there for talking to an important NPC, check on weapons and fuck off. These locations can't stand the comparison with Galbadia, Lindblum, Dali etc. I think they started to improve with VI, but I don't remember half of the game and still haven't finished it as well.

I'm a shameless storyfag if that's any info to go on. What are the best versions of those to play?

>I will say, however, that 9 is the perfect culmination of everything FF was about up until that point. It just really did a great job of representing what both the classic and more modern FFs had to offer
And according to Sakaguchi, that is literally EXACTLY what they were going for with FF9, so I guess they really succeeded. Originally 9 was going to be a "Gaiden" side game basically sending off the PS1 era of Final Fantasy to make way for PS2, and it gained so much momentum that they decided to make it a full fledged sequel in its own right.

I bet she liked it.

>friendly monsters sidequest and whenever I was backtracking to save some time, so I may have liked it less if it took me 5x longer to said things.
be glad, friend, be very, very glad. as someone who played FFIX multiple times, i wish i'd had a speedup button sooner. it didn't help that i always felt compelled to grind any new abilities out of gear immediately

to this day i don't know how they managed to render such a fine booty with PS1 polygons

When the time comes and you play FF7 you will understand, understand why nothing modern se tries could ever succeed they are a shadow of their former self's and wouldn't last one game in direct competition to their past efforts.

>seriously recommending FF3

at least warn them how mind-numbingly slow the combat is

She's a miracle, Squaresoft knew how to do the job.

It was the last fantasy final fantasy that people remember, and the best traditional jrpg on the PS1. Both the games before were SciFi epics and X leaned more towards them. IX had a pure fantasy setting and the gameplay to back it up, with a traditional but well polished system that benefited from the more experimental systems of 7 and 8. The story while imo just above average kept itself rooted in its characters (Vivi being the best example) that were both colourful in character and design. My only major gripe is it doesn't open up till most of the way through disc 2

>they confirmed they're toning down Honeybee Inn for the remake

This

the stunted character models really killed any chances of good porn like the other FF games have gotten, which is a crying shame. Had some good faps as a teen with that one comedic doujin that had Steiner/Beatrix/Lani

I don't remember that character but is sexy with those spats.

You'll definitely like VI. Usually people say GBA with sound+graphics mod is the best (It still doesn't fix them enough for me, the sound effect will always be wrong and I in fact prefer the GBA music to the fix, because it's actually working with the limitations.). I'm partial to SNES original, since I think the Woolsey translation is essential. After them you have the Playstation version with long load times, dulled colors and worse music, but no censorship on sprites and pubs, more competent translation and some rather superfluous starting and ending FMVs (that don't really fit the tone). After them you have the iOS/Steam version that is hideous, unwieldy abomination, that you should avoid like the plague.

I'm not so sure you'll like V then. I happen to really like its story, but usually it's seen as underwhelming, V is usually recommended on GBA with sound mod. Again avoid the iOS/Steam version.

She's a minor side character, basically Amarant's bounty hunter rival who you fight on the way through Fossil Roo and then encounter a few times afterwards.

>Just beat FF9, and it was damn good.
>Only FF games I'd played before this were 13 and 15
You went from the worst to the best.
Anyway, I'd recommend 4, 5, 6 and 7 over 8 and 10.

6 and 7 are generally hailed as the best of the 2d and 3d early FF's, for their own reasons, but I would advise you play 1-10, crisis core if you want an action RPG (play it after 7), then if you still want more, 12 is one of the first that strays from the traditional turn based formula (though 10 scraps ATB), so if you want to try it, try it. I didn't personally enjoy it though.

All the FF games are good in their own rights though, yeah. You just have to look at the mindividually, and try not to compare them to one another directly.

...

13 is the worst but 15 is one of the best.

...

Just hearing the main theme in my head blasted me with nostalgia. I don't think there'll ever be another theme that will trigger so many feels at once.

Which one is considered to be the main theme of FF9 though? The one that plays when you boot up the game or world map music or this unused one that is actually called the main theme?
youtu.be/sPm3wujlGN4
Probably most people consider it to be the first song that plays. That unused one should have played after you get the airship and until disc 4.
