bump

3 is a good time. fun story and characters, fun gameplay across memorable individual areas

I enjoyed 2 but 3 is always the one I want to play more. also, not sure why but it seems to be a controversial opinion to think that 4 is complete trash

Those results go to show the average IQ of Sup Forums, I'm not surprised though.

MGS3 is for children.
MGS2 is for men.

ARE YOU READY?

Kek here comes the pretentious mgs 2 fags

nothing's gonna happen

Came and went, nothing happened beyond a tweet.

But TGS for sure, amirite?

MGS3 was the better game
MGS2 was the better MGS-game

V > 1 = 2 > 3 >>> iV

So, which one is the better game overall to you? Like, if you had to make a top 100 games list, which would you rank higher?

2 by a longshot.

3 was fanservice for the brainlet demographic.

>4 is complete trash
>controversial opinion
That's just fact, mate

OUT
2

Imagine being THIS FUCKING WRONG

3 > 2 > 4 > V> PW
(haven't played 1 or PO, so I'm not gonna try and rank)

2 without 1 just doesn't work imo

This list is rough, and further thought could shift my ranking. MGS3 stays on top, though.

Never really had an opportunity to play 1, but when I do, I'll make sure to give 2 another run to see what I think. For me though, nothing can beat Snake Eater.

Manchildren.

Maybe, but can you explain why I'm WRONG?

2 was fanservice for the smug demographic

2 is my favorite.
But I completely understand 1 and 3 as answers of course.

MGS2>3 Story
MGS3>2 Gameplay
However story matters way more than gameplay in MGS and 2 has the best of series. 3 is still pretty good though, dont know how you could like one of these games and dislike the other.

2 is really good, but I'm not sure I'd it can match the sheer joy I get from playing through Snake Eater.

Snake Eater.

Its better in every aspect compared to 2 (plot, gameplay, settings, boss fights, player character, etc...)

Come on, how in the world is MGS 2 better than 3?
>The game had no memoriable bosses
>Raiden was a terrible introduction
>Unnecessary love story, Bomb defusing and Swimming
>Ocelot arm of jerking off
The complex ideas of MGS2 were just never MGS1.

don't forget the Patriot bullshit

>dont know how you could like one of these games and dislike the other.
this is exactly my sentiment thank you user

It's a self aware post-ironic art piece, while 3 is just a game.
2 literally cucked everyone into playing it and disappointed them on purpose just to prove it can.

it's better, but you can't claim it's because of better bosses or gameplay neccesarily. It is a lot more hit and miss, whilst mgs 2 was near perfect.

>but you can't claim it's because of better bosses or gameplay neccesarily

why not? The controls in 3 worked because the level design worked. The bosses were also interesting and varied.

3 was broken as shit without the free form camera in subsistence

>mgs3 gameplay
>good
>MENUS MENUS MENUS

and minimal backtracking.

Unlike 2 where you need to backtrack all the time because of the shit level design of Big Shell

I say mgs3 is better because i found big shell very repetitive and the new camera mode.

This. Everybody praising Snake Eater has never played through that shit as intended

>Everybody praising Snake Eater has never played through that shit as intended

what do you mean?

>Big Shell
>Bad

Lmao it's great and better designed than any level in MGS3. The interconnection is great. It looks good. It's got a lot of interesting stuff to discover.

mgs3 has fuck loads of backtracking, you go through grozny grad like 3 times

*blocks your path*

With a fixed camera.

Elaborate please

I had more fun playing 3 than 2. That's the purpose of a game.

you have to go through that badly designed strut many times

mgs3 derailed the series to revolve around "muh edgy sad war lord"

how is it badly designed again?

I like both

Not that, the remake part of the filename

Miller?

>mgs1
best story
meh gameplay
>mgs2
great story
ok gameplay
>mgs3
good story
good gameplay
>mgs4
ok story
great gameplay
>mgsV
meh story
best gameplay

Okay but who is Sunny's dad?

Sergei

>Which game is better?
2, clearly

What a thrill

HIDEOT KOJIMER

Metal Gear Mobile BTFO both of them

>MGS1
>best story
you are retarded

>>mgs2
>ok gameplay

MGS 3 for me, because I'm a sucker for a jungle setting during cold war. Just was more fun to me than a tanker and an off shore platform.

It is though, it stands on it's own without being bogged down by any meta "dude this sequel is SUPPOSED to be exactly like MGS1" nonsense or 50 years of lore about muh war between zero and big boss

Ghost Babel for GBC tops it

Why did the FOXHOUND unit, including Liquid, try so hard to kill Snake if the plan all along was for him to activate Metal Gear?

Because plot

>it stands on its own
>a derivate as fuck westaboo story of a japanese video-game written by non-writers
MGS2, despite being meta, stands on its own in terms of writing way more than MGS1

The one that actually tries to be a fun game and not a tech demo too busy trying to shove a pretentious message on your face.

I don't think they planned that all along, only after he escaped capture I think

MGS2 is the best Metal Gear and arguably one of the best games ever made.
3 is okay but it doesn't come close, there's too much menu management and its story is your average braindead monomyth saturday morning crap.
How is a message pretentious when it is what it is and holds no false pretenses? it's brainlets like these that make normal people hate snake eater fanboys, you either make saturday morning garbage or you're pretentious.

>t. butthurt John Carpenter fan
"Stand Alone Story" =/= "Unique Story"

just because MGS3's story isn't convulated af, it doesn't make it bad

>The interconnection is great.
Only good thing about it.
>Backtracking through areas you already solved multiple times
>Barely takes advantage of what was introduced in the first part
>Overall level design is weaker too and relies on gimmicks too often
>Only a few rooms have guards that need some skill to avoid
>Bombs with more backtracking
>The second part has barely any stealth section

I would happily replay MGS3, it's just plain fun.
MGS2 was ambitious with its story but the gameplay is complete trash. It's a chore to replay.

the last part on the Big Shell, where you have to escort Emma out is utter pain

Every part of the Big Shell is pain. I hate bomb disposal. I hate swimming. I hate sniping. Every level in MGS2 is "that level".

I was glad when she died. Sorry Otacon but your sister a shit and she deserved it.

>the MGS3 story isn't convoluted af
>muh triple crossing double agent is not unnecessarily convoluted but an exercise in misinformation that discards its own plot as irrelevant? that's too much.

>How is a message pretentious when it is what it is and holds no false pretenses?
How is it not pretentious?
>Barely gives room to the gameplay
>Can't shut up for 5 minutes about how it's trying to replicate mgs1 again
>level design and pacing suffers from this
>shitty melodrama that adds nothing to the actual message of the story
You're making a game shittier just for the plot's sake, most pretentious shit you can do with a game

MGS1 relies more on western cinema pop culture than MGS2 relies on MGS1 or anything else. MGS2 is one of the most unique and original stories in all media

>MGS2 is one of the most unique and original stories in all media
Plenty of novels touch similar subjects like Deus Ex.

Tell me more about le ironic fourth wall breaking deconstruction postmodern masterpiece

>MGS3 is winning
Good to know Sup Forums still prefers games over movies.

So you don't know what pretentious means and are still butthurt Kojima denied you your Die Hard/Bond sequel, that still doesn't make MGS2 pretentious, it's as earnest as it gets in its intentions.

Cant wait for my new pachinko

>mgs2
>unique and original story
>same plot as the first game
What did he mean by this?

You're an imbecile

Deus Ex didn't have the advantage of being able to use its status as a sequel to subvert the player's expectations.

>MGS2 is one of the most unique and original stories in all media
AIs controlling everything isn't particularly new, read a book sometime.

3 is a more complete game/package. Story is a lot more straightforward and it's made to appeal to them feelings. Bond shit going on and lots of references and humor

But 2 is something you don't see every day- The mere amount of analyses and theories around it already talk a lot about the quality of the game, Hidden details not only in codec conversations (which are usually the biggest examples of story exposure) but also from character design, dialogue, and environment design, tell a lot of hidden shit that you would normally miss if you weren't paying attention (or didn't know where to look)

I still prefer 3 more. Even though 2 is extremely more thought-provoking (even more for its time)

Whoever tries to downplay it by just saying "it's a re-telling of MGS1" or "it's just AIs" is obviously a retard who can't juggle several ideas coexisting and developing together

I wish literally anyone but Kojima has the idea for making a game like MGS2.

It was according to the simulation. He is correct.

What book? Give name pls

mgs3 has waaaay more cutscenes and codec bullshit

>all these overgeneralizations made by brainlets.
every thread we get of these it just proves snake eater fanboys are simply braindead sub 100 IQ monkeys wanting absolutely nothing remotely challenging from an emerging artform.
3 winning only proves that the board is filled with children, nothing else.

>what is NieR:Automata
>what is DeusEx
And Kojima didn't write any of the good parts of 2. Refer to 4 as proof of this.

i honestly consider 2 and 3 on the same level, as both favourite mgs games and both in my top 10 of favourite games of all times. they also have amazing ending theme songs

>Nier Automata
>Deus Ex
>remotely on the level of putting the game and story at odds with each other

Deus Ex didn't rehash half of its predecessor's story to mislead the player and put him in the same trap as the player character.

>subvert the players expectations
It doesn't though. Stop listening to Youtube Gamer Analysis

Nah, the story isn't the issue here.
MGS2 is shit thanks to how it ignores the most fundamental part of a videogame.
I know you're easily impressed by cutscenes but this is a game, not a movie.

Good. Ruining your game with that shit isn't a good idea.

But it literally does, everything related to Raiden subverts the player's expectations.
It doesn't, it has superb AI and has the most refined arcade top down metal gear gameplay and runs at 60 FPS .
