As a healer, I find it most important to make sure all of the needs of my party are fully met. If there is anything I can do to assist them, I will give it my all to help.

What kinds of needs does your party usually ask of you?

Tending to their wounds, making them foods/potions/general consumables, confiding their secrets in me, cuddling during cold hours, consensual hand holding, among other things.

Depends on game and genre. Prepositioning to avoid unnecessary movement helps a lot. Knowing how much damage certain attacks and mechanics do to plan out healing or start setting up. Understanding other players roles to know who will need healing or supportive buffs. Communication and callouts of information to help others know what's happening.

I'm a Dom and a healer, and I agree. The roles are separate and have nothing to do with the other.

I decided that everybody I was playing with was shit, the other healers in the raid were incompetent, and took personal responsibility for the success of the entire raid.

I also played MoP Holy Paladin. So, that was easy to do.

Can't help it if you're projecting. I played my monk assertively, forcing the damage forward when I was confident I had enough energy to push for that extra kill. Calling strategy on who to send back for splits and calling to fall back isn't exactly a submissive role either

I heal because I enjoy the concept of teamwork, like helping my friends (healers usually have faster queues or some sort of utility to help people), and I enjoy the thrill of bringing my party back from the brink of death after a massive attack. It's like how a DPS enjoy seeing big numbers. I like seeing health bars shoot back up to the top after taking a heavy blow.

I like following the damage and preventing it from even going through in the first place. There are few small things as satisfying as using guardian right when you see a warriors hammer raise in the animation for dev hammer, then watching as my spell not only blocks the damage, but also the knockdown and half of the rest of the damage from the spike. Then instead of dropping spell after spell of healing into the target, I drop one spell that mops up basically all of the damage. I spent 10 energy and two skills and the enemy team spent 30+, at least 8 skills, and they have nothing to show for it

What i've seen from a lot of games is that the tanks are the ones to take initiative, know all the fights, charge into shit. Doesn't feel very submissive to me.

That is the kind of attitude where I wont heal you till the very last second. I love seeing tanks sweat especially when they pop something like Hallowed Ground or Holmgang.

At a high level, it's knowing incoming damage patterns before they even happen.

Also knowing which of your teammates is most likely to fuck a mechanic up and take more damage than others so you can compensate.

At a medium-low level, avoiding mechanics yourself instead of tunneling bars, mana and movement management.

Knowing when your group doesn't need heals so you can pump damage in the meantime

I like to use downtime between heals to watch others and try to provide constructive criticism if I know their class well enough to try to help them do better DPS/get hit by mechnics less or whatever after I feel I've done as much as I can myself.

Your job as a healer is to channel the righteous might of the heavens in restorative form, and pull your allies from the brink of death kicking and screaming, despite their incompetency.

Sorry, it's not how I am. If we wipe to something, I wait until after wipes to try to help, but I will call out mechanics if no one else does and we're having trouble with it.

Even if there are bad players on your team they still provide bodies while you and they other good players get things done. Healing them saves time from running back from spawn so they can provide a few extra hits for you and your pocket demo

Definitely. Speaking from experience on both sides of that advice, it can do more harm than good if the party is getting wiped on the same part frequently. But at that point those who are dragging the party down will likely be leaving soon anyways

I just love being helpful. Obviously, being a good dps player is helpful to winning too, but it's different.

I like being someone's partner, and helping them do well. I like giving buffs and heals and seeing them go off and do cool stuff and win and be all happy. It's a really nice feeling.

It's not about being able to do it yourself, I do well in other roles or characters and it's not like people are limited by ability like some of you like to suggest.

I do see the stuff about expecting praise and being smug or whatever, but that isn't what it's about. That person is being a healer for totally different reason. You know in real life, some doctors do it because they want to help people, and others do it because they have a god complex, right? It's a real thing for this to be divided between those two personalities.

I am extremely submissive and the idea of serving someone elates me, my heart jumped even writing that, but I believe I would still go with the healer archetype in games regardless. I like the teamplay aspect, and I like helping others and being a team player regardless of sexuality.

I'm not sure, I feel like in certain situations healers and dps are vying for the easiest title. Both can be really fun in the right setting and really boring or irritating in some cases too. Really depends on the game, dungeon, setting, class, etc.
