How long do you think the 3DS has left?
I know they said they would continue to support it despite the Switch releasing but they killed the GBA when the DS came along.

It's dead already. Literally nothing worthwhile is coming out now.
It'll get a handful of nothing games in 2018, but Metroid and Pokemon ultra are the last hurrah.
3DS had a hell of a run. A library that spanned 13 years, plus pretty decent VC support.
Honestly, if I didn't love the Switch so much, I'd want the 3DS to go on for another 2-3 years.
3DS thread? What's everyone playing right now? Just finished a round of Star Fox 64 3D.
Nintendo will most likely get rid of it in 2020. Metroid 5 will most likely be its last big game sometime in 2009.
3DS systems will remain on the market with a few games coming here or there for it until Nintendo manages to produce a Switch that they can sell profitably for $149.
Likely what will happen is that we'll get a $199 'Switch Lite' next year as a smaller more portable system sold without some of the accessories and possibly locked to 720p even when docked (dock sold separately).
Which will result in the New 2DS getting dropped to $99. Then when they can bring the price of the Switch Lite down to $149 the 2DS will go away which will probably happen in 2019.
I know it won't happen but I'd love to see another Zelda game using the ALBW/Tri Force Heroes engine.
This, 2019 is the year that a Pokemon RPG is coming, once that gets released, that's when the Switch finally be considered a REAL handheld worth getting. Metroid 5 though, if it's released in 2019, will most likely come for the 3DS going by Sakamoto's comments on why Samus Returns is getting released on the 3DS.
It will happen, the Switch is not selling GBA, DS, 3DS, or Wii numbers. As of right now, it's an embarrassment to even call this a 3DS replacement when it has no games. 2019 is the year it gets a Pokemon RPG game, that's when the Switch will be seen as an actual worthy successor to the 3DS. As of right now, it's just a successor to the Wii U and a sorry excuse for a successor at that.
Its possible that Nintendo will stretch the timeline out a little bit, with a price drop for the Switch in 2018, with the cheaper more portable Switch not arriving till Pokemon is released in 2019.
Unless Nintendo changes course or comes up with some other role for the DS line I doubt we'll see it get to 2021. At least not as anything other than a retro system which does seem like a possibility.
I can see that happening, hell they can announce a GBA Virtual Console for the 3DS for either this year or next and push the sells even further. The 3DS will slowdown in sells when Pokemon comes like you said. The Switch has to feel like a 3DS successor for it to replace the 3DS.
Pokemon is shit, keep it away from my quality console
Too bad, it's coming for it in 2019.
im going to miss the 3D gimmick and those 3D hentai QR codes
How many games do you own for the system? Are you still buying new ones for it?
I own some 20ish retail games and dozens of VC and indi ones digitally. There are also still some games that I'm planning to buy eventually.
I've always wondered what the original cat was so sad about.
Also I agree
Another 2 years before 4ds is released.
I honestly don't know what kind of tech they can add to make mobile any better.
GBA was good, DS was perfection, and 3DS just added a gimmick.
I'd be fine with just a newer model of the 3ds
or more decent games for it
4D when?
I'd be pretty good if the successor was just similar with a better screen.
Metroid, Pokemon, Ever Oasis, EOV. It's doing fine.
DQ11 too.
Honestly, I can't stand the 3d feature. It makes me nauseous if used for more than 15-30mins.
I'd rather it use those 3d glasses instead.
So glad they at least have a switch to toggle it off.
until the next animal crossing for switch is announced
I ordered a N3DSXL because it actually has games. It's arriving tomorrow. I have never played it before. This will keep me occupied until the first switch revision, when it will be cheaper and actually have games.
They already stopped production of the new 3ds.
Isn't AC primarliy targeted at girls?
To be honest, it has surpassed the time limit I imagined.
I didn't hope it would get games up until 2018.
I was pretty sure that 2016 would have been its last year.
I love the 3D, it's always on for me. New 3DS does it much better though, I've never felt nauseous with it. My sister has astigmatism and can't use it though.
Depth based 3D>>>>popout 3D
I am a girl.
>tfw boy
f-fuck
Because it was a failure in Japan, everyone was buying the XL instead. They're still making the New 3DS XL. 2ds for babies, 2ds XL for rich babies, 3ds xl for adults.
I'm a guy and it draws me in like few other games can. I decided to quit it though, favorite villager moved out and I've been needing a reason to play other games.
I just wished Sega/M2 continued bringing the Sega Classics goodness. I would have loved games like S3&K, Landstalker, Story of Thor etc. on the 3DS.
I would have loved to see a 3DSxl model with completely matte plastic though.
Fuck no. Assassin's Creed is full on normie shit
I don´t know. I´m a guy and I always thought about it as a advanced tamagotchi. As in you aren´t looking after one pet but a whole town and the animals living in it
>armored core
>marketing to girls
Well I haven't seen any deliberate attempts to attract girls there.
Animal Crossing.
Nintendo is crazy to discontinue the ds. Its literally the only reason they arent bankrupt yet. Lots of parents buy the handhelds for their kids, but no one is going to buy a switch for their children. Also, a lot of adult women have 3ds's. Straight away nintendo just lost a massive demographic. The switch is another meme console like the wii u, and will have exactly the same fate.
Tis' in jest lad.
>Switch is a meme console
>outsells the xbone
>outsold the ps4 multiple times in less than a year
Sure
Sure, I was away and the last one archived.
Playing Ever Oasis
Enjoying it so far.
>The switch is another meme console like the wii u, and will have exactly the same fate
This
>tips defora
>tfw stuck green subpixel on my new 3ds xl
>it's literally invisible from a foot away, have to move my head a couple of inches from the screen to see it
>only visible on a dark/black background
>can't stop thinking about it because I know it's there even though I don't see it 99% of the time
>tried the fast flashing colors, didn't do shit
Is it worth sending it back in? I already hacked it, downloaded all the game and played it for 30 hours. I know it's literally fucking nothing, but I'm kind of bummed knowing it's there.
>rips defora
>outsold xbone
Lol
>outsold ps4
Wow it out a 4 year old console
Seriously what the fuck was nintendo thinking? The wii u flops so they release nearly the exact same thing again. People dont want these hybrid gimmick consoles.
>deflowers your fedora
>have an o3DS XL
>been thinking about upgrading to a New XL model
>pearl white New XL is on sale for 139 Eurobucks
>I fucking miss the offer
>re-seeds fedora garden
Not him, if Nintendo showing this thing off as a handheld then I would have gotten one. All I'm seeing is a Wii 3 not a successor to the 3DS. I stopped giving shit about Nintendo's home consoles with the Gamecube, but at least that thing had some great games, Switch is just a continuation of the mess that was a Wii U, even getting all of its games.
I bought the pearl white 3ds xl 4 days ago for 160 euros from a 3rd party seller. I didn't notice Amazon.it itself had it for 129 euros, although it says it's currently not in stock. By the time it's back in stock, the price will probably jump back to normal.
>tfw could have saved 30 euros
Do you know if it was it in stock 4-5 days ago?
We need a new Gameboy. Non of this gimmick shit.
Pokémon is actually coming 2018.
No it won't
I dunno. The offer that I missed was available at two big German retailers about two weeks ago.
It depends on what the game looks like then. It needs to look like your average Pokemon game, not try to make it a game with a third person camera, that would be talking things too far.
>about two weeks ago.
Never mind then. I wasn't even thinking about buying it 2 weeks ago. Take a look on Amazon.it (they deliver to all EU countries), they have a brand new 3ds xl pearl white for 130 euros, but it's not in stock. There's also a bunch of 155-165 euro ones from 3rd party stores and some of them are fulfilled by amazon.
thinking of buying that sexy sherbet orange 2ds. Are there any 3ds games that require 3D functionality?
In mario and lugie dream team
In the final boss the bat guy uses some batty attack and some bats fly out of the screen and some fly behind the screen but you only have to dodge the bats in the middle of the screen where you are
I say about a year or so. It is still getting sales, and Nintendo is at a awkward point where they want to see if the Switch will succeed or not.
Killing off the 3DS too soon would ultimately hurt Nintendo, and I imagine doing remakes is way more cost effective then creating completely new games from scratch. I see them having at least 2-3 more titles past this year that will be considered decent enough to pick up, and then that is it.
This year will probably be the last year with Nintendo giving it proper support. I assume they still had games planned for this year in case the Switch had a rough start.
Since the Switch seems to be doing quite well (outside of Nintendo being unable to actually stock it properly), I think they are more comfortable letting the 3DS die next year.
If they make a switch that is just a console for cheaer, I would buy it. Or a switch that is just a handheld for cheaper, I would also buy it. Untill then I will stick with 3DS. over 1000 games... Switch has like 4.
What do you guys think Nintendo will replace the 3DS with or are they already trying to do that with the Switch? I can't see them getting rid of the Dual Screens. I've gotten too used to it.
They're probably waiting to see how well the switch does before committing to a 4ds.
Not him but I hope they go for a 4DS because I don't ever want to buy a Switch.
Not long. 2018 will be its last.
Cheaper, smaller, more portable Switch will replace the 3DS.
Maybe it will be hinged DS style, but I think its more likely that it will be a slate style system with a pair of 3DS style slide pads. or maybe Nintendo will rip off and improve on Valve's reconfigurable touchpads.
$149-$199 with a number of concessions to the lower price, but it will almost certainly still dock for TV play.
The GBA lasted a few years in the DS's shadow. Remember, when the DS was released, it was promoted as a "third column" system (lies!) and it wasn't until late 2005 when the DS really began to take dominance almost a full year after its release. Meanwhile, in 2005, the Game Boy Micro was released. The last gasp was probably 2007 (remember, Mother 3 came out on GBA in 2006). The DS also had the benefit of playing GBA games.
The Switch can't play 3DS games unless they release some second screen that plugs into it, so no. The future of the 3DS depends on the Switch's success, if it succeeds, then the 3DS will die and the Switch takes up the crown, if the Switch crashes and burns, then they might make an upgrade, but at that point, the company might be forced to go third party.
>but Nintendo can afford to run a deficit for decades
They still have to answer to shareholders, they're the ones that forced Nintendo to go into mobile
Is Fire Emblem Echoes good? I was listening to the OST on Youtube and it made me really want to buy it.
My friend pirated it and beat it to the ending so it must be good.
Just got dq 7 and 8 last week (along with a new 3ds xl) really liking those. And also mh4u its my first mh game and I wish I would have got into the series sooner
>really liking those
Are you playing them simultaneously or something? Why would you do that?
Very easy game with very annoying but easy maps. Voice acting is a pretty good addition that makes the story at least worth reading. Story is generic/10. It looks really pretty though. It's a short pick up and finish in a few days game. Lack of good endgame content really makes me sad though.
I personally love it, but it's very different from the other 3DS FE titles.
Because I can. I'm 11 hrs into 7 and 12 into 8.
>they killed the GBA when the DS came along.
No they didn't. They did tge same thing they're doing now. The GBA Micro came out a year after the DS launched and the system continued to get games until 2008.
My original model is showing its age a bit. Do I get a N3DS or a N2DSXL?
N3DS because the 3D is so good
That's only 4 games user
Will go back to Senran Kagura Burst soon. Beat it ages ago, but want to play it to completion. I also got lots of post-game stuff to do in Pokémon Black.
I saw 7th Dragon on sale yesterday, maybe I'll play that afterwards.
Just got the freeshop working on my 3ds, what are must have games?
Think we'll ever get another Nintendo handheld? Think they'll ever revive the Gameboy line?
Fire Emblem Echoes
Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers
tell me more
I'm not gay.
I'll check it out.
1 more year. A new DS will be shown at 2018 E3 as powerful as the Vita.
Whip out your 3DS
>3
>DS
Not 2DS but 3DS
Honestly I hope they kill it ASAP. It's my most played system but that resolution has to go. I want some Picross 3D, Ace Attorney and Layton on Switch.
If that was true, then it wouldn't make sense why Switch is getting a mainline Pokémon, nor why was crippled to be portable in the first place
fug i gotta update the system software to use the internet browser and I don't wanna fuck up the homebrew stuff
>Is it worth sending back?
>I already hacked it
Why would you ask a question that you already answered?
I hope Metroid 5 comes out for the 3DS in 2019 as the last big game for it, and I also hope Nintendo adds GBA VC to the 3DS and make a proper successor to the 3DS because Switch is a failure as a successor.
Funny that you say this; every girl I've known that's into video games has said that Assassin's Creed is their favorite franchise. I'm sure it was a coincidence but it was kind of odd.
>they killed the GBA when the DS came along
The DS install bass grew quick enough for Nintendo to make an informed decision to kill the GBA. 3DS has the biggest install base and with a failure in WiiU and component shortages in Switch production the decision to kill 3DS is a lot harder to make
Stop spouting this shitty false equivalency.
The DS was capable of playing GBA games, no shit it was taking it over no matter what they said. Not only that but the DS was literally a Gameboy Advanced SP except bigger and with a screen on the bottom.
Contrast that with the Switch, which isn't backwards compatible, and isn't like the 3DS at all.
Thats not to say it isnt replacing it, but you can't use the gba ds switch as an example for this.
It's going to be funny when the next Nintendo handheld is announced.
The Switch is fucking garbage as a portable. 3DS needs a real successor. But I don't know how Nintendo will pull it off without gimping the Switch. People might riot if there's no Switch Animal Crossing. This system is such garbage compared to the WiiU though.
6 days for dragon quest xi
Also the jump from game boy to fucking DS was way bigger than the jump from 3ds to switch. The 3ds is absolutely fine while the gameboy was already a fucking dinosaur.
That being said it will obviously not last forever and clearly it's already going down even if slowly.
