Coasted off the brand name stragiht into the garbage bin, just like the playstation brand

>Deception
>total crap

Here's your (You), friend.

Deception was fine.

It probably had the best singleplayer fighting game content of 6th gen.

Deadly Alliance was pretty good though.

Deception was a passable attempt that got elevated to an almost meme-like god status because of the shitty "RPG" mode that cost time that should've been spent on making the main fighting mechanics better.

Armageddon was just pure shit though.

Never touched Armageddon but loved the other two. Fun shit with my brother. The retarded long dial in combos were ridiculous

Shaolin Monks probably kept it alive long enough for 9 to save the series.

>that should've been spent on making the main fighting mechanics better.

It's Mortal Kombat, the fighting mechanics were never that good to begin with.

Spinoff story stuff and side content.

Which is why they should've spent more time improving them. Took them until 2015 to finally get it right.

This minigame was so good

Deception is a way better game than the modern Mortal Kombat games.

>Remember when Mortal Kombat was total crap?

yes, i 'member Mortal Kombat as an entire franchise user, i 'member.

>the shitty movie based on a shitty game is better than the games

dont know how this equation worked out but ok

2015 MK is literally just 2011 MK minus Kabal plus a bunch of donut steels.

MK was pretty much the best video game movie ever made and has still not been topped

Mah nigga

Shaolin Monks was one of the better MK games I've played.

They got lucky. They were working on MK 2011 knowing they fucked up the last 3 and then were approached to make MK vs DC. That's why WB saved them when Midway went bankrupt.

Imagine, MK 2011 could've been one of those famous cancelled games and Ed Boon would be on kickstarter for the spiritual successor to Mortal Kombat.

Only thing we lost was that cancelled Shaolin Monks sequel, which really really blows but at least there's a chance they could start over since at least the franchise was saved.

>all fighting games must be top tier competetive
kysArmageddon was the only bad one

What's wrong with Armageddon?

X felt way less stiff than 9. I can't even play 9 because of how bad the movement feels. You do uppercuts and it passes right through the other guy's model half the time. It feels like moving through molasses.

That's definitely not the order of events. After Armageddon Midway went bankrupt, then DC bought the rights to MK and hired the old midway studio team that developed it, and had them make MK vs DC, which is why the game is mechanically similar to the last 2 MK games. Only after that is when they started work on a reboot of the franchise and a return to 2d fighting.

>people are actually defending the ps2 era Mk games
Nostalgiafags are something else

All the characters in one game, so they reduced the amount of moves everyone had. Instead of 2 fight stances plus a weapon you just had two total, or in the case of the bosses, only one stance. Also too much emphasis on launching and doing air-combos. 2/3 of the moves list was air combos, and even they were the same inputs across all characters. Also no fatalities.

Konquest mode was pretty good tho

Which is funny because up until a few years ago the only MK nostalgia fags were the 1-3 die hards who HATED everything that came after. Not sure what woodwork all these 3D era fans crawled out of but it's nice to see some variety finally in the fanbase.

Bloated roster with some of the shittiest characters imaginable, bad fighting mechanics in general, character kreator just sucked ass, the story mode was meh, Mortal Kombat Kart was fun for a bit I guess

I actually liked Deception's story mode.

Very limited moves on every character
no fatalities instead a create-a-fatality bs
ugly character designs
literally who final boss
kart racer being worse than puzzle or chess

Ah, now I remember. Character creator was kinda fun though. Create your own fatality was silly though, and should have remained to OCs only.
Motor Kart was fun though, just wish there was a reward or something for beating it.

You're idiots if you don't understand how generations work.

Nobody is defending Armageddon.

S E E T H I N G

0 taste

I get it, it's just interesting how abruptly things changed. I think after MK9, which was basically just an HD trilogy, people were getting tired of the trilogy cast so for X you got a lot more asking for the more unknowns.

Isn't the literally who final boss just Blaze but at his full power or something?
I agree, the story was meh. I didn't understand the difficulty of Konquest mode with it's bullshit traps and timing at all. And trying to find all the hidden items too.

Where are you looking? People have loved Deception for ages.

who the fuck was blaze though?

I specifically remember being in the Midway forums and talking about it when the bankruptcy happened. It happened during the development of MK vs DC, and the game was still released under Midway, co-published by Warner Bros since they bought the team as they were wrapping up the game.

Wasn't he some guy on a bridge in MK2? I thought he was also in Alliance and the PSP port of Deception too. I know you can find him in story in Deception. But yeah, it is weird that the somewhat obscure character became the final boss.

The most boring character imaginable. Just a guy made of fire. Literally copied from Killer Instinct.

The 3D games were always fun to me, probably because I sucked at fighting games back then. I always found fun in everything around the 3D games, but acknowledged that they weren't well-done. I was even a little mad when they jumped into 2.5D but I learned to prefer it. There's a lot of good stuff from the 3D era that I'm sad we haven't seen much of, but at least they got the fighting in the right direction. If Ed Boon let go of his obsession with being in e-sports, the games would have better content.

I remember fapping to this plenty of times when I was in high-school.

Shaolin Monks was cool.
Armageddon included the entire cast of the series, and a bunch of different modes.
MK9 was amazing and really put the franchise back on the map, Injustice was a great branch off for them too.

Unfortunately they started to release shit like MKX, and Injustice 2, which are complete shit.

that pic reminds me why i hate current mileena
ok you may want to tone down sexiness but it betrays mileenas character desu her only appeal to me her sexiness hiding her mouth which is nightmare fuel
fuck off with that lip shit

3D era had some sick ass stages tho

mortal kombat players never cared about quality.

The best. It had great music too, I hate that they went the superhero/atmospheric music route. I'll never get over that House of Pekara theme:

youtu.be/NJVi770ofyU

What's some of your favorite 3D Maps? Mine is Hell, Outerrealm, and that one map with the big tower and lightning

>tfw playing Shaolin Monks and getting to explore the environments in full 3D of famous stages throughout the series.

Yup.

I still hate playing the final boss. My favorite 3D game though. Wish you can play as everyone in Story Mode instead of just Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Lui and Kung
This stage still lays in my heart as that stage that randomly transformed and spooked me the first time

I don't know all the names, but the one with the Buddha statues that spit acid, the one in DA where you're on the back of that flying thing, Golden Desert, that drum circle one, Pekara, the Deadly Alliance portal, and Shang Tsung's palace. Those are the ones that stick out the most.

Another one of my favs is Qaun Chi's lair.
>Golden Desert
Great taste

>Player 1 takes the square

I can still hear it

Falling Cliffs was also great

>falling cliffs
>trying to see what would happen if both players fell off at the same time
Tell me i'm not the only one who did this

So DC Co publishing it saved the game from being canned all together? Either way my main point was they definitely didn't start working on the reboot until after they became NRS

I just hope MK11 has a good roster. X's roster was highly questionable.

I'm ashamed to admit this but I actually enjoyed Armageddon's story mode, I even played through it twice.

>3D MK Thread
>No Adema Immortal

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic display from everyone.

Three times here, to get all the relics. Yeah it's not bad.

>MK Thread
>No Reptile Static X

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic display from everyone.

Me too user me too.

There's a couple of interviews with Ed Boon that I can't find for the life of me. One was as recent as a couple of months ago, and the other was as old as when MK Armaggeddon was out. Back then, Ed talked about being in development of a reboot, combining the concept of MKX with the kids being the heroes and MK9 with the rebooting and 2.5D fighting.

In the latest interview, I remember him mentioning that WB or a higher up at Midway kinda forced them to work on MK vs DC. I'm sure they didnt have the 2.5D fighting system figured out yet since it was early in development, so that's probably why MK vs DC had 3D fights, but my point is that MK9 had been in development before WB swooped the MK team.

I feel like WB shoehorned a bunch of the popular characters from 1 in for sales. That's probably also why half of the DLC characters aren't even actual kombatants. It was cool as hell to get Tremor but Hydro or some such would've been neat and there should've been a cyborg from the get-go.

Shaolin monks is kino tho

funny. it was fine up until they added xray moves.
>realistic mocap scans >>>>>>>>>>>> ingame designs

Armageddon had the coolest intro.

>tfw you and your brother discovered you could play as scorpion and sub zero
>tfw trying to get every secret in every area

SM was such a cool game

Mortal Kombat has never actually been good. From the very beginning the only reason anyone played it is for fatalities and the interesting characters. Same deal today except there's also a great B movie story and loads of ridiculous cross over characters to go with it.

They are all good games weather you like them or not is irrelavent.

that create your fatality thing in armageddon>regular fatalities

>tfw doing Smokes missions and getting MKII

I think Street Fighter is the best.

What's wrong with Deception and Deadly Alliance? they are fun games and have tons of single player content.
Not every fighting game has to be ultra competitive Guilty Gear tier.

Adema is such a terrible band but that song and the album it's on is pure nostalgia for me

I kinda think Kira is hotter than Sonya, but her render in DA was hot too.

DA Sonya military outfit was the tits

with bouncy physics

Why couldn't this outfit be in X?

'sup weeb?

>Killer Instinct invented fire
Xbots are THIS unhinged

Did not realize nostalgia-boners were a thing, but here we are. Classic.

Just watching a video.

youtu.be/pAtL3dlfx3E

god damn

Would you play a MK adventure game built off Deceptions Konquest foundation but with a character with a fully customizable fighting style instead of cloning people

Yes, they were pretty shitty, however:
>DA and Armageddon intro
>Deception's fatalities+hara kiris
>half assed but overall nice quest mode
>content locked in crypts, crypts being a total mystery
>every goofy image available
>Lore expanded
>Shaolin Monks

They had the right amount of stuff to be considered bad, but entertaining.

Is Sonya a Jew?

MkX and MK9 we're both shitty though and both attempted to reboot the series (poorly)

Netherrealm studios can't make a good fighting game to save their lives

>mfw fighting games are now dying off because no dev adds single player content anymore

Now it's the capcom model of "here's some barebones shit, buy the next one coming up in a few months"
Now fightan games are just discarded like a used whore for the next one.

It played like ass but Deception was great. That comfy ass story mode was so good

9 was a smash hit and successful reboot, probably the best reboot ever made.

MKX didn't really do it for me, but they are still following the reboot timeline, making your entire post incorrect.

>sequel never
it hurts

Armageddon was fun as fuck though, I played the shit out of it one summer with my friend on the Wii.

Holy shit that on disk Mortal Kombat themed music video. I forgot all about that

that girl... where have i seen her before....

>my weed tray

I just hope Boon keeps his political agenda shit out of MK11.

Meh, it was one of the only decent fighters when it came out, most of the fighting games back then had slow ass and floaty physics+unresponsive commands. SNK and Capcom got bigger and better tho, MK just got bigger.

>queefs
