Pyre

Is anyone else bummed out by this game? It has a decently written story and characters, some cool worldbuilding, great artstyle and tracks, but the magic basketball gameplay is just so boring and shallow. Easily Supergiants weakest game.

Nah, mate. It's the consensus around here. They went too wild with this one. Better luck next time.

It could have been great with an actual proper battle system

It already looked shit in the trailers so no surprise there.

Pretty much. I'll still finish it because I am still really enjoying it but I came in expecting a little more from them. This sorta shit reminds me of Nintendo, they try really weird shit, and while sometimes it works wonders, there's many other times where it doesn't work at all.

Definitely a pirate before you try kind of game.
I loved Bastion and Transistor, but this game put me to sleep very early on.
I'll probably force myself to finish it eventually
Love the soundtrack, though.

bastion and transistor weren't good, not sure why people thought this was going to be. in b4 a bunch of casuals screech and sperg at me because i didn't like a couple of games.

Bastion was excellent and Transistor was pretty great.

i think the magic basketball is way more in-depth than bastion's "roll around, shield projectiles and fire at things"

bastion was great

transistor was pretty damn boring otoh

I made it up until the first member was freed then quit. The rites are so shallow, so easy to just take your smallest member and run circles around dumb cpu

>sub-15 fps when there's an enemy demon
>or maybe just too many large models and aura shots
>on console
anyone else?
it's pretty shitty when that happens

they were way too casual for me, didn't offer a challenge physically or mentally. I prefer games that aren't afraid to push back at the player and attempt to crush them at every turn.

Thought was beauty of Transistor though, you could up difficulty with those upgrades that also rewarded you for it

>tfw to skilled to enjoy vidya

that's not what i said, i said those 2 games in particular weren't challenging for me, not ALL VIDYA IS EASY HURR DURR

I quit this game when I found out there were more then 2 genders. Fuck outta here.

Transistor>Pyre>Bastion

dude you put your < backwards

...

But there aren't. You can either be a male, a female, or they can't tell and don't care to ask.

You're allowed to have shit taste in video games. It's actually expected around here. Here's your (You) , nice shitposting

have you done the dreams in bastion with all shrines. show achieve for proof if you have

>Have 60 fps according to fraps
>Constant Low FPS message in game
Nani?

>show achieve for proof if you have

lol

Not sure if this is bait or not but this is literally my ranking

>Ha, ha, if you disagree with my opinion then you're a casual sperg!
Are these threads populated by high schoolers? When does summer vacation end again?

Not bait. Bastion is highly overrated here.

yes, never

Just beat the campaign, now working on them achievements.
>Master CPU in versus with six Titans
HELP

>the consensus around Sup Forums is that it should have been closer to a safe retread of bastion
This board is fucking dead. Nu/v/ won.

I enjoyed Bastion a lot and it had some great moments (saving Zulf comes to mind) but it's not as engaging to me as the other two. Not really sure why.

Maybe I'm just a casual who cares too much about the story

How does using Sprint work?
When I press Shift they just grunt and do a little animation but do not move.

This. I love Transistor and Bastion to bits, but I'm glad that they didn't make yet another story driven isometric action game. Haven't played Pyre yet, but a visual novel mashup with basketball seems like a fresh take. Their games aren't even that good when it comes to gameplay, they mostly excel in story, atmosphere and art direction.

It's not the mash-up that is bad in itself, it's just the gameplay being ultimately a chore.
At least the connection between gameplay results and story is done decently

Gae has a delay before she can sprint

It's like a visual novel with a sports mini-game that has mostly irrelevant stat mechanics. There's also a lot of work put into world building for what is a very trite and ham-fisted tale.
I can't say that it's entirely bad, because I don't think it is, but I can't really say that I'd suggest it either.

It's different for every character. Maybe you're just out of stamina sometimes? Also what said

yeah, the gameplay looked so shit that i'm not even gonna bother pirating it

I would have been happy with a normal turn based RPG with a unique take on it. Supergiant haven't done anything of that sort yet.

The basketball shit sucks, though.

>Is anyone else bummed out by this game?
>Anyone else bummed out that they were excited for another Supergiant game and got exactly that
If you're seriously angry because it's different combat you're retarded. A whole new combat system in each game is part of supergiant shtick.

>REEE MUH SPORTS
>mfw
Sports are fun and the tactics behind them are fun. Sports+magical abilities is even more fun. You people are mentally challenged.

>At least the connection between gameplay results and story is done decently
That's literally what Supergiant Games are about. I hate Bastions combat, but it's still one of my all time favorite games.

>"not sure why people thought this was going to be good."
>proceeds to acknowledge that there exists a significant body of people who liked the last two games released by the same developer.
I know this is bait, but you're probably retarded anyway.

Anyway yeah, I didn't get the Bastion hype. I suppose it was well made for an indie game of its time, but... idk. I got bored.

The people who think Pyre is boring and bad are the same people who non ironically think that sports are just a bunch of meatheads running into each other with no plan of strategy.

how long is it?

I've beaten the first nontutorial rite and im thinking of refunding it.

Just doesn't seem worth $20.

>tactics
yeah picking the most overpowered character you still have avialable and dunking on the computer before returning to clicking every ui element to advance the character dialog is a real bouquet of tactics
you are obviously The Wiz

By far their longest game

>Le boil game down to it's most basic parts meme
>All you do is shoot
>All you do is hit things
>All you do is dunk on people
>All you do is jump to the end of the level
Come back when you're ready to stop shitposting

I don't mind different stuff. I just wish it was good and not unfun like this.

Pretty much how I feel right now.

Bonus points to Pyre for routing out the simps.

But there are no tactics in this game.

>your game is trivial and brainless
>s-stop boiling down to its essence
just watch eureka seven instead of playing this game

>No tactics
>Different classes that all play different
>Each class has has two talent trees, you can mix and match 4 abilities from each into your moveset and all of them are dramatic changes that effect your playstyle
>On top of that you have the equipment
>Opportunities for experience and items are extremely scarce which means you need to be smart about your plan for progression
>Oregon Trail secrion can be used to swjng the fight in youe advantage or disadvantage
>Match specific situations like the sap bringing the roots in to enclose the map ir the dog nerfing your respawn time
>The usual modular gameplay from supergiant with the constellations
>Need to use all the tools to your get a goal outside of the tutorial and braindead difficulties (Easy without modifiers, just like every Supergiant game)
You literally have no fucking idea what you're talking about. The game has more depth than Bastion. But less than Transistor.

Took me about 10 hours for one playthrough so its the longest out of the three

like none of the mechanics of the game are important
>but if you turn on these titans
yeah not necessary to level your characters so no one will ever do it
tell us again about how every supergiant game is poorly designed

Not even gonna give him the (you) but we all know who this is for.

Nobody is seriously retarded enough to construe Supergiants modifiers as bad things

>Haven't played Pyre yet, but a visual novel mashup with basketball seems like a fresh take.

No, it's shit. You will find out when you play it.

t. pic related

>go on Sup Forums
>brag about how superior you are to supergiant games
>asked to show evidence
>"lol"

Like I said, I don't play Supergiant games for the gameplay.

Or at all, apparently.

Bastion is literally my game of the decade. I have a fucking Red figurine on my shelf.

certainly no one is ever going to play this game for its gameplay

>SG has gotten progressively worse since Bastion

What went wrong?

Transistor>Pyre>Bastion

Bastion is entry level and boring once you've played either of the others.

Transistor was weaker in story, but everything from the gameplay to the presentation was a step up. Bastion, aside from the writing, seems like an armature job compared to Transistor.

>Get the Bog Witch Bertrude
>Expect her to be shit because that class didn't do shit against me in the Rites thus far
>She's actually amazing

Or wait, that's not her name. I forget her name maybe.

shooting hot death through terrain

>The masked faggot is not assuming anything about your gender
Fucking really?
SJW crap game.

>The game has more depth than Bastion. But less than Transistor.

This is pretty much true, but overall it doesn't help it that much.

The gameplay portions of the game are the shortest part of the game, and they're interspersed with 2x - 3x as much visual novel stuff. Compared to Bastion which had you in gameplay mode for 90% of the time while telling the story, or to Transistor which had you in gameplay mode for 95% of the time and let you digest the world lore at your own pace, and Pyre's pacing is pretty poor.

It also doesn't help that for as much depth as it has, it's a slow game.

There is three options. Neutral, Male, Female. There is no default setting, the game just randomly rolls a dice.

>I would be happy with a normal
You're coming to a company known for abnormal experience and crying that it's weird and different.
Bastion was grounded ordinary because it was their first game and was publishes under a publisher. They have full creative control now.

You will NEVER play an ordinary Supergiant game again.

m8 you have to get to the exposition on freedom

Ok who did you guys send home and who stayed?

I kept Ti'zo, Bertha and Harpy bitch.

Bertha and Ti'zo both wanted to stay down below, while Harpy can be with her bitch sister. At least that was my decision.

Had zero losses, and a 98% success rate.

Because they'll probably close down after this game. :^)

That's fair, but the story in this one kinda ended up phoning it in during the last half. Compared to Transistor (which had a meh finale) or Bastion (which was fantastic the whole way through) it left a lot to be desired.

It's probably the weakest in terms of art direction too, with a lot of clashing styles - they look nice, but it's not entirely cohesive like the other two.

At least the Music is a step up from Transistor's, but Bastion still takes the cake there.

I don't think it's a "BAD" game, but it's definitely their weakest one and I wouldn't actively recommend it.

Transistor > Bastion >>> Pyre

It only took us 1000 posts but we finally have a coherent and reasonable criticism of Pyre on Sup Forums.
Outside of you calling The Oregon Trail a visual novel. That's just plain objectively incorrect.

I agree with most of this but enjoy it in spite of those things. The focus on the narration allowed the game to effectively build up the tension and stakes and make the Rites intense. It felt like a less is more approach to me and I think it worked.

The Oregon trail bit certainly could use more things going on. There were those segments with _ae and Sir Gilman out in the world using the combat system. I wanted to see more of those. And more decision making along the way.

>Transistor had a meh finale (it was no bastions but come the fuck on)
>Weakest in terms of art direction
>Bastion has the best music
THESE TASTES GOOD LORD user

>It's getting called the best Supergiant game other places
>It's the highest rated one as of now
Feels good that this coven of retardation is exclusive to Sup Forums

how does it play on PS4?

Way to only read a part of the post:
>with a unique take on it

yes great polygon endorsement
>15/10 i don't need hands to win -Polygon

Keep reaching

Explain to me, the mechanics of the game since you consider it shallow.

>Transistor had a meh finale (it was no bastions but come the fuck on)
It was a meh finale. It wasn't terrible, but no one's written essays on it lauding it or condemning it. It honestly seemed like they just had this amazing idea for the world and the journey, but forgot to think up a proper ending until 3/4's of the way through development.

>Weakest in terms of art direction
It is. Bastion and Transistor have everything cohesive, from the battling portions to the customization options to the full screen art, all looking like they were drawn by the same person. Pyre appears as if it had 3 different designers for the different sections.

>Bastion has the best music
youtube.com/watch?v=gQWAcgefsQQ

Lyrical songs notwithstanding, Bastion's instrumentals are easily the best in the series.

Did someone put up a MEGA of the soundtrack yet?

It's not the consensus to anything. I like the game and I'm glad I got something different to play for once. Every game just copying popular mechanics is so fucking boring.

You could just rip the youtube video that Supergiant posted of their entire ost

>Keep reaching

But that's LITERALLY what they said user.

>"Pyre crosses over from traditional multipath narrative game into truly brilliant with one major design element: You cannot lose the game."
>"Truly brilliant"

I don't care about that user bragging that he's good at indie games, but the dreams are pretty easy to accomplish if you play games often

Can't wait for sales numbers two weeks from now.

>Rip Youtube Video

Fuck off you disgusting piece of plebeian mucus

>normies have the best taste!
Nice facebook opinion there user.

>Entire game is about struggling against inevitability
>The scene where they realize that they aren't going to save the world and Red offs herself
>Not powerful
The ONLY reason Transistors ending doesn't get as much credit is because it had to live up to Bastions which was fucking perfection, and that Transistors story isn't all plainly spelled out.
>Bastion and Transistor have everything cohesive
Pyre's intentionally surreal, strange, and "wrong" looking. Transistor is art deco. And Bastion is honestly kinda just a colorful video game. It's easily the least inspired visual style in my opinion

>Spike in a rail
Sublimely good tastes. It's not worth it to argue the soundtracks imo. Bastion has instrumentals. Transistor has the vocals. Pyre has an insane amount of range and variety that challenges both the other games with it's best tracks.

I remember when I first heard them describe what Pyre was and I immediately thought "Welp, never gonna play that."

I'm sure some people will like it, though.

Kept Bertrude, Voldfred and Gae

Felt like the right choices

Hey man, I bought the ost like a person who actually wanted to hear it in a decent quality as well as support the company

>the nu/v/irgin it it's naturally habitat, struggling to comprehend that some peoples tastes in video games have in fact not been warped by years Wait this is nu/v/ were talking about, months of taking shitposts too seriously
