While I would put X5 much lower, I think we can all agree the original X1 set the bar way too high and no other game in the series could even touch it. Even the PSP remake feels off compared to the tightness of the SNES original, porbably due the X8 physics engine being applied to X1 level design.

Even X6 is better. At least that game has personality, X5 is perhaps the most "paint-by-numbers" Megaman game ever. The only novel idea it has that even remotely pans out is its armors, which are admittedly pretty cool.
