Why has this game never been looked upon as favorably as RE2? What's wrong with it?
Why has this game never been looked upon as favorably as RE2? What's wrong with it?
Nothing. It's actually better than 2 but people just played 2 first so have more nostalgia for it.
I don't think anything is wrong with it. 2 just had more of an impact with it being first similar to what said and 2 having multiple playable characters across the entire campaign.
I like 3 quite a bit more than 2. I liked being out in the city more than being in the Police station. The backgrounds in 3 all looked fucking great and interesting.
Then there's the enemies. Nemesis, the coolest looking hunters in the series (beta), and the Gravedigger...3 had better enemies than 2. Though Birkin and his many forms were pretty damn cool.
I'd say 2 had the better soundtrack though.
Why did every RE game get an HD treatment except for this game?
It's not that great desu. The gameplay is pretty much a rehash of RE2 with the minor Nemesis twist. It's an interesting concept, but the execution is lacking for me at least. Maybe it's because I played it like a year ago and wasn't scared. Also it has the worst map progression of the 3 REs (I always liked how 1 and 2 ended in a secret underground laboratory).
>watch cousin doing multiple RE 1-3 playthroughs on PS1 as a kid
>be fascinated and traumatized at the same time
>become adult
>try RE 1 on PS1 by myself
>quit after the first dog encounter because too scared
>be 29
>bought RE HD remake on Steam
>still get scared shitless after the first encounter
I really want to play through the games, but I can't stop shitting myself.
RE3 stands to gain more from a modern day remake than RE2 does. Imagine what you can do with the Nemesis concept with today's technology? This is why I hope RE2 sells well.
How is RE2 on PC? Is it playable with a gamepad? You can download it on theisozone.com
RE3 has the best amosphere in the series after REmake.
>the zoo
>the weird european-style streets mixed with everyday Americana aesthetics
>running for your life in a ruined parking garage
>the church
>Carlos
>It's actually better than 2
Said no one.
RE2 is a rehash of RE1 with the minor loli twist but without Wesker
Same reason people hate FF8 and RE5.
RE3 came after RE2.
People attached themselves to 2, hate 3 because it's not 2.
I grew up in a Nintendo household when i was young. Like this user pointed out 2 was the first one I started off with when I was young and unfortunately my older brother never wanted to buy a PlayStation because he was a die hard Nintendo fan so I could never play 3 since it never came to the N64/GameCube. I've always wanted to though.
But the thing is, 3 basically is 2. 3 feels like an expansion pack with a new ammo element and an upgraded Mr. X.
3 did come to Gamecube.
Well no, that's wrong.
2 was far more exploratory than 1.
But even so the problem with it is that you're supposed to be in a city that's being taken over by a zombie outbreak and you only get that impression in the first 5 or so, areas after that the game kind of disregards the whole incident and has you go off on a birkin goose chase and to different secret facilities and you forget the whole premise of the game.
It did? Then wow I'm ashamed I didn't know about it at the time. I will see if i can get a rom/emulator online.
Well whatever you want to believe.
You say expansion, I say improvement.
In 3 you got to explore raccoon city more, you really felt like the city went to shit.
2 and 3 were supposed to be about the Raccoon city incident yet 2 kind of neglects that and has you running around facilities and umbrella sites.
3's controls were tighter, introducing the dodge and the quick turn after dino crisis implemented it.
The only thing that 2 does better is the soundtrack.
I wasn't trying to shit on RE3, it's my favorite in the series.
RE2 has more replay ability, but 3 honestly seems just as good IMO. Both seem a bit better than RE1, and REmake is just slightly better thah both of them.
stfu fag, plenty of people said that
It had bullet crafting which allowed you to break the game or do some legitimately fun shit
Dodging
180 turn
Target selection
And
Best girl
>How to get those sites shutdown 101
Gj m8, hope the upboats were worth it
Because Code Veronica was the true sequel to RE2 and RE3 is just a side story
The bullet crafting is a very interesting mechanic but unfortunately the game isn't long enough for a player to fully take advantage of it. I always just end up making magnum bullets and freeze rounds anyway, there's not much point in constantly making advanced shotgun/handgun bullets when you can't use them with the STI Eagle
Dodge system was annoying
>Best girl
in best outfit
>the annihilation of Raccoon City
>a side story
Educate yourself newfag. RE3 is a gaiden game and only got the number 3 because Sony made them do it.
Code Veronica is the true RE3, but because it was on a different system, they weren't allowed to call it RE3. Sony had the contract that said Capcom needed 3 main RE games on the PSX
you're a gayden gayme
I'm already aware of all of that and literally none of it matters; one of the original protagonists and central characters of the first game of the series having her own game and having the entire setting the classic series was entirely based around being blown up doesn't constitute a 'side story', whether it has a number in the title or not.
A man of refined taste
You're one of the good ones user
>implying this isn't her best outfit
Two best girls for the price of one
You're an idiot.
"I don't care what the real reason is, my headcanon says it's not true!"
By that logic Revelations aren't side games.
I like 3, It's more polished than 2 and Mercs mode was a good adition, but 2 was a bigger step after RE 1.
its a short and shitty RE2 sidegame. CV is the real 3
The headcanon in this scenario is you desperately clinging onto situations that never actually played out in real life. Nemesis is a numbered title, autismo. Get over it.
it's a spin off title and not a real resi game. it's just not up to scratch.
>not a real resi game.
It's more "Resi game" than Code V faggot.
absolutely not true. 3 is a markedly different experience to the other mainline titles
>3 is a markedly different experience
Kek, 1,2 and 3 are basically the same, backtracking, puzzles, limited ammo, and so on.
I like it more than 2, actually. Nemesis way more of an interesting threat than a Tyrant in a coat and a mutated cuck, plus I like what they've done with the reloading tool and crafting your own ammo.
I don't quite like Carlos unfortunately, and the game is a little bit on the short side.
Aside from personal feelings, I honestly don't know if I'd objectively argue for 3's superiority over 2 but in the end I like both.
No it isn't. RE3 reveals nothing about Umbrella, and has nothing relevant happen until the very end of the game. This is different from RE1, RE2, and CV.
But your entire argument is "I don't care what the real reason is, my headcanon says it's not true!"
nemesis and 1 arent even remotely similar
have you even played it
I already gave the real reason you unintelligent ape.
>RE3 reveals nothing about Umbrella
I was talking about gameplay, in the story department RE3 reveals the connection between Umbrella and theMajor of Raccon City and how Umbrella tries to eliminate the remaining STARS members, and that's just from the top of my mind.
It has the same core mechanics, It has more action like 2 but that is.
Yeah and so did he. You're both discrediting your respective opinions.
Also namecalling makes you look even more retarded.
Also best waifu
As someone who has never played a resident evil game, is going into it in release order (replacing entries for remasters when available) a good idea? Are non-numbered entries required/recommended?
No, REmake is so good it replaced the original. But you should still play RE1->RE2->RE3->RE4->RE5, and then you can fuck around with the REmakes and side games like 0 or Code Veronica.
RE1 is still good enough to check it out first.
So playstation emulators it is then. Hopefully not a pain to set it up so I can try Silent Hill too.
I prefer far more the 4 possible scenarios to timed choices leading to forks within the game
I never really cared for the crafting or the dodging
I never liked nemesis, similarly, I didn't like the tyrant from RE2
Use retroarch, aside from setting up the BIOS it's pretty easy to use and provides the best emulation for PS1. Especially if your GPU is compatible with vulkan.
Going from Remake to RE2 is a big jump, the Remake is the peak of the old formula.
1>2>3>CV>Remake>Zero>4>5>6>7
Revelations 1,2, and Dead Aim are good side content.
If he plays like that he'll get bored like fuck of tank controls, it's probably worth at least playing all the mainline games first, up to Resi 5.
>I never liked nemesis, similarly, I didn't like the tyrant from RE2
What's this heresy?
>tank controls
You get used to it in one game
For sure hit 1 through 4, then REmake. RE1 and REmake have a ton of differences, so it's almost like playing a different game.
ePSXe is really easy to set up and runs all the RE games fine, Silent Hill does get some small visual bugs though.
There are better emulators, but they're slightly trickier to set up.
You don't get it. I'm not saying tank controls are bad or that he won't get used to them, but if you tell someone to play five tank control games in a row, they will get boring.
Especially if you're telling him to play both Zero and CVX in a row, like holy shit user. Remember the plane Tyrant fight? Or the inventory fuckery in Zero? Play these games, but play something else in between.
>run from nemesis into a save room
>suddenly this music now plays
youtube.com
This game nailed the atmospheric tension like no other in the series.
Of course it's wrong, as is what the other user said
Yeah, but that's gonna happen for sure if you want to play the entire franchise in a row, It has been too many years and too many games.
So of course, if you're getting bored play other games in between, even without side games like Gun Survivor or OP Racoon there are too many games.
>By that logic Revelations aren't side games.
But... that was YOUR logic
3 was better.
First post best post.
>Not posting leather slave Rebecca
pls
not everyone has shit taste like you
>plane tyrant fight
just because you get owned by something and have to retry once or twice doesn't mean its bad. you're just a casual
Carlos is the most fun and likeable RE guy, he was always my favorite. To hell with Leon.
>once or twice
I must've spent like half a day on that fucking fight, purely because I didn't know the BOW rounds are imperative for that fight. Also, learn to read, I don't think CVX is bad, it just has some bullshit here and there.
She was pretty cute in that new Vendetta movie.
>BOW rounds are imperative for that fight
No they're not
What's a good PS1 emulator for me to play RE3? Its the only mainline RE game I haven't played yet.
use a gamecube emulator instead, like dolphin
play the GC version on dolphin.
If you like fucking around with the Tyrant for eight hours and then hoping that he's damaged enough where he won't be able to resist dropping the fucking crate on him, then I guess they aren't.
I agree that I was pretty unprepared for him in terms of resources when I played, but you can't deny that fight isn't fucking bullshit.
>zero place to move around
>his patterns are hard to read and thus avoid
>the fight doesn't end traditionally, you have to load the crate and drop it on him
Emulate the Gamecube versions. There's even HD texture packs for RE2 and 3
forums.dolphin-emu.org
Zero's kinda shit dude. Not being able to properly run through hordes of zombies because you need to babysit an AI is annoying as fuck.
Why bother emulating when there's a functional PC port?
But 8 is actually complete garbage, and I played it before 7 (and don't even like 6 that much). Also if you played RE5 with a friend, it was amazing, if you played it with the AI, it was trash.
I had no idea there even was a Gamecube port, thanks.
I pre ordered i, and it hasn't arrived...
If I had bought it on the store, I'd already have it.
>tfw was released yesterday in ausfailia
Look at any speedrun of CVX, you can kill the Tyrant in less than 10 seconds without BOW rounds and without him even appearing on the screen in the first place
>the fight doesn't end traditionally, you have to load the crate and drop it on him
Something that made the bossfight much more interesting and made you feel like he wasn't just some bulletsponge you had to hit X number of times until he fell over. The fact that he gets visibly weaker as the fight goes on makes it more interesting too. Git gud
if you're that scared of using the endless ammo then move with one character at a time dumbass
Not to mention boss designs, the bat boss itself, these annoying fucking slug versions of Marcus that cannot be killed unless you slowly dump molotovs or flame rounds on them, the lack of item boxes which just turns item management to a clusterfuck, how the level design makes zero sense, and picture related.
That said, I still think that Zero is pretty good. The amount of work that went into the artstyle design and trying to emulate the REmake feel is commendable if nothing else. I just wish they didn't try to make their own spin on crimson heads if they had no fucking idea how to do it.
>you can kill the Tyrant in less than 10 seconds without BOW rounds and without him even appearing on the screen in the first place
Good luck doing that without preparing resources beforehand, lol. Can you read man? You're royally fucked if you have to fight him using weaker weapons and are low on healing items.
>Something that made the bossfight much more interesting and made you feel like he wasn't just some bulletsponge you had to hit X number of times until he fell over. The fact that he gets visibly weaker as the fight goes on makes it more interesting too.
Agreed, the issue is less about the entirety of the design and more about the fact that it's paired up with nigh unavoidable attack patterns and a relatively small space to run around in.
Its still got a lot of other problems, see Personally I quit right when the train crashed and you're forced to navigate that big room that's full of zomibes. I quickly got to the door myself but Billy got swarmed and destroyed as soon as I did. The game's not horrible, but goddamn if it isn't annoying. Even at its best it's worse than all the other classic RE games.
>Personally I quit right when the train crashed and you're forced to navigate that big room that's full of zomibes.
So you quit after the first half an hour? Holy shit, don't be a casual.
>these are the people that spread their opinions on RE games on Sup Forums
That's longer than a half an hour, and nothing on the train is interesting. The AI dying in that room was just the final straw that made me lose interest.
>Holy shit, don't be a casual.
I never said it was hard, it's just bad.
Except the general consensus on the game everywhere is that it's sub par at best. What aspects of Zero do you really find good?
Most people play past the half hour mark to come to a conclusion about a game's overall score
>When Nemesis burst in from the windows after you get out of the photography room next to the stairs
>replaying the game
>you know it's coming
>still scream
>nothing on the train is interesting
The train itself is a cool setpiece with great design, even if it ends up making no sense later. Plus, you get to meet and kill zombified Edward later, STARS zombies are always great. The whole sequence with stopping the train is fun, so is exploring and unlocking the different train wagons.
You have your own opinion, obviously, but people don't shit on Zero because it's not interesting, it just drops the ball on certain things later on in the game. I'd say that up until the end of the Training facility the game is really good, it just dips hard in the Church area and doesn't recover until the waste disposal facility at the end.
Plus, as said - you've written off a Resident Evil game before even entering the trademark mansion exploring bit. What the fuck are you doing?
Because capcom will save it for years until they feel like they'll go bankrupt without it like SE saved FF7 for remake
SE isn't going bankrupt
I played the whole thing, zero is my least favorite game of the series that I've played. I've played all the numbered games and cv. It want horrible but I was extremely glad it was over.
Sums it up pretty much.
Giving up after one minor setback makes you a massive casual lad. You should know what you're getting into when you start a 'survival horror' game it's not meant to be a cakewalk.
>didn't complete the game
>general consensus
Your opinion literally has no meaning
>15 failed
>12 remaster failing
>All that money wasted on movie spinoffs for 15 that were released for free
>XIV cash shop getting even more jew filled due to pressure to make revenue inorder to stay afloat
>not dying
