Can someone explain to me the weird circumstances around this game?
There was no reason to call their System Shock game Prey. Bio and SS are both taken by other publishers of course but they could have gotten away with something on the nose like just plain ol' no prefix Shock
why did you make this same thread again?
Prey 2 on infinite hiatus
Bethesda needs to release something with the Prey name to keep copyright
Arkane's A team working on game in the vain of SS2 and Bioshock
???
Release the game as 'Prey'
No one buys it
Live moves on
2017
2006 was forgotten in less than a week
The one where you play as an Indian because you play as an Indian.
t. Pajeet
That's not even the right kind of Indian.
Come on baby, don't fear the Reaper
I enjoyed a lot the first Prey.
Pretty good single player shooter.
I don't know about the new.
I don't think it's even a shooter anymore.
2017 wasn't remembered in the first place
the obe that's actually prey and not in name only. nu prey was alright game but could have been called literally anything else.
Prey 2 was in development hell, Bethesda wanting to squeeze the IP out of the devs was also a factor. Arkane's game was renamed to use it.
Of note, the original Prey was also in development for a long time.
>Daily threads about it
>Not remembered
correction, the IP was a byproduct of their tactic. that wasn't the goal. they were trying to bankrupt human head to buy them out, but they didn't give in.
they did the same thing to arkane and id software, though neither of them can speak about it now obviously.
Sad to see Prey 2 canned. It looked pretty fun. In some ways, though, the sequel seems more like the 2017 reboot than the original, which was more of a first person puzzle game.
Then again, Prey (2017) was a very game good too. The sheer amount of detail they put into the station makes this a must play for anyone who loves exploration and interesting level storytelling. I mean, you can literally track and find every employee working on the station, each one with their own story. Too bad combat is pretty boring if don't use Typhoon powers
That said, the Black box part was pretty shitty, and Arkane really dropped the ball when they did not make decent human enemies
2006 Prey is actually the 2nd version of the game.

3D Realms started developing the original in 1996. It was really damn impressive for the time, and was going to be the first game to feature real portal technology almost a decade before 2007's Portal.
I enjoyed 2017 more and I played both games.
portal "technology" was actually really simple and games do it all the damn time without calling your attention to it, like Build enigne games will link levels together with invisible teleports and just not call your attention to it
still really cool how Prey made it seem though, like the small planetoid in the glass box or the wall walking gravity shifting parts.
no one gave a fuck about 2006 despite what contrarians say
It was hilarious when Prey 2017 came out and a bunch of fucking hipsters immediately sprouted to pretend that Prey 2006 was some kind of cult classic that was capable of being done wrong.
Prey 2006 was just your average run-of-the-mill sci-fi shooter, 6/10 at best.
Played neither but Arkane only makes Bioshock clones
Stop spamming this thread.
New prey has the opening and transforming into inanimate objects going for it.
Old prey had basically being a next gen doom with portals and shit going for it.
Old prey hands down
Is this going to be a nightly post for you or something?
Yes
New Prey is a pretty good immersive sim with great exploration and variability, 8/10 at best
8>6 so new Prey wins.
It's called a Immersive Sim and, apparently, they've been around longer then you. Also, just because a FPS has a unique art-style it doesn't mean it's a fucking Bioshock clone.
Prey IP is owned by Bethesda. Some studio trying to developed Prey 2, but as the tactic by Bethesda for buying their studio, decided to assraped them hard and the game is shelved because of it. Arkane then made an unrelated game called Typhon, but they renamed it as Prey because Pete Hines idiotically think that "they both about aliens and you shoot things, why not call it Prey?"
>Hipsters
Prey 1 is the beginning of an alien invasion
Prey 2 would be humanity integrated with aliens
Prey 2017 is system shock with bad symbiote monster designs
How anyone thinks naming it after prey let alone without a number or subtitle is baffling. Whether you like prey or not that's a fucking retarded decision to make just to hold onto a license. Because now prey 2 should one come out will have shit sales by virtue of being connected to the underperforming new prey.
It looks like easy money but it's just lighting money on fire.
prey 2 by a longshot
>comfy af music
>bioshock infinite but actually fun
>enemies are perfectly balanced until you inevitably overlevel halfway through the game
>cool crafting system
>multiple endings
>sidequests
I like both of them a fair bit.
Currently working my way through Prey 2017 and loving every minute. I dunno why I'm enjoying this game but really didn't enjoy my time with Bioshock.
Prey 2017 would've been received much better had it not been named Prey.
What about Preyshock?
Pretty much this. Though Prey 2017 is actually a good game but people sperg the fuck out because it's not Prey 2.
why does the decade older game look better?
>those rock faces
>better
alright sure whatever you want buddy
Those aren't rocks. It's like intestine walls
but that isn't rocks
Prey 2006 still looks good, but Prey 2017 has way more detail in the environments. In terms of the textures they seem about on par though.
Prey was a simple shooter with some fun mechanics that was ultimately very average both for its time and in general.
Prey 2017 was almost a good game, but sadly ruined by development cuts and the same braindead playtesters that cut dozens of features like O2 tanks and lasting damage effects like broken limbs and blindness. If the game had a better weapon selection, that alone would have made it a good game. As it is, it's flawed and mediocre, a slightly worse version of Bioshock because the story and atmosphere are miles worse. It doesn't hold a fucking candle to SS2 which was also a flawed game. It's a little better than average for the current generation of waypointed walking simulators, but it's far, far below average when compared to decent examples of the FPS-RPG genre, and worse than it's most obvious comparison, DX:HR.
