Why the fuck are graphics still not as good as Toy Story yet?

Why the fuck are graphics still not as good as Toy Story yet?

Kingdom Hearts on the left obviously. Looks flat as fuck.

Lighting.

>Why aren't real time graphics as good as thousands of 3D rendered frames that took hours to process on hundreds of top-tier PCs

gee i dunno

Left has to be rendered in less than 1/30th of a second.

Right can have minutes spent on a single frame.

These threads such.

sage

Yeah but the movie is 25 fucking years old, you mean to tell me we'll NEVER have graphics as good as Toy Story?

You would think that after 20 years that we'd have caught up

We're almost there op. Give it maybe 5 more years.

You know they re-render scenes for CGI?

None of these threads take into account the softer cartoony shading that Kingdom Hearts is going for as opposed to the real life based Toy Story.

Doesn't KH3 have to run 60fps on consoles?

Now wonder it isn't able to have maximum grafics.

>hundreds of top-tier PCs

Consoles can't compete...

>Really bad, ugly bump mapping on the right.
>The strong lighting on the right that feels harsh and abrasive.
>Left is running in real time and looks more inviting than a LITERAL CHILDREN'S MOVIE.

This isn't even bait anymore.

>comparing real time and pre-rendered

/3/ here. Kill you're self.

...

The better question is, when will graphics look as good as Moana? UC4 looks like shit in comparison.

because renderfarms

You think your shitty PC can render toy story 1?

the movie came out 20. fucking. years ago

yes

Take your (you) and go.

This.
Lightings a bitch.

Also, people have made shit in Unreal that looks just as if not better than Toy Story, it's unrealistic do that for a game that's going to be on console.

So there's your answer.
>Why the fuck are graphics still not as good as Toy Story yet?

Consoles....

PARTY ROCK IS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT

>This whole thread

Do you think we could have gotten it to look as it does now 10 years ago?

No?

Then it would be silly to say that we'll never get there.

Consoles.

/thread

30 years from now or more

KH3 is supposed to look like Toy Story 2/3 because it takes place in between the two movies. It's not like they tried to imitate the first movie and failed.

>Le why don't games look as good as Toy Story meme
>Toy Story doesn't even look that good

really made me think

>guys toy story looks so good

Toy Story 1 would take 45 years to render on one modern high tier computer.

The Incredibles would probably take 200 years.

Just because you know absolutely nothing about technology doesn't mean "20 fucking years" means anything.

god damn it this is making me hate video games
and now i want to see moana

This. For Toy Story, you're looking at 2-4 minutes per frame. For Toy Story 2, you're looking at 20-30 minutes per frame, and in some cases, it gets up to 40. I haven't ever looked up anything for TS3, but I can't imagine it being any better.

Post ONE (1) screenshot from a video game that looks better than this

>look it up
>it was actually earlier

In 1995 processors had a power of around 0.3GHz. Today processors go over 4GHz.

...

It actually does. The right looks overprocessed by comparison.

You're going to have to factor in the randomness of real-time rendering in games but if you took KH3 footage and a clip from toy story and put them side by side KH3 would look better.

I'm not buying that sissy-hypno shit game tho

>I'm not buying that sissy-hypno shit game tho

There's a reason you very rarely see humans in Toy Story. Making a movie about toys was actually a really good idea when all your CGI looked like plastic toys anyway.

Left looks better.

Now show them in motion

Toy Story 3 looks to be 7 CPU hours per frame going up to 39.

Right is only better because they can afford to raycast lighting, so shadows can have fuzzy borders.

I'm actually surprised how accurate they made it in KH. Even the sheet's design is spot on.

>harsh lighting
Wow! It's almost like it's a little kids room with a desk lamp and not a studio set!

>muh polygons

There's a reason why 90s and early 00s look like utter shit.

Aesthetics and visual quality is not equivalent to just how many polygons a model has. Shit like lighting, shadows, textures, etc come into play as well.

Do you honestly think this shit looks good?

youtube.com/watch?v=vA3OqkSX4QA

Yeah and today one computer Is working on rendering a movie for 4 days straight instead of 50 computers rendering for 4 days straight. Gaming will never be able to compete with animated movies since games have to be rendered real time.

that looks amazing, best ever wow I want to put it inside me

oh no, it's a musical?
she's hot though... damn

Why was the crab the best part of the movie? Was it because he was supposed to be like Bowie with his song?

But they are you fag. Every thing looks better except the jaggies which will never be topped for technical reasons.

...

Actually it's more time.
It doesn't take minutes, it takes hours (4-8hrs).
30 minute renders are regularly scenes that aren't too "crowded" with a decent light.

Looks like DK is holding a fake hand in his right lobster claw.

Video games have far surpassed pixarshit. Take your retarded meme thread back to

Kite Demo looks way better than KH although it's not a game

the kite demo is pretty much the only example of real-time graphics I've ever seen that looks as good as CGI. (at least early 2000s CGI)

I wonder when games will look this good?

What hardware are you running it on?

I can run the demo at 1080p 30fps on my 970.

So I'm guessing, when you add tons of NPCs/particle effects/physics/actual gameplay etc into the mix, PLUS 4K, it'll probably be 7+ years before actual games match it.

If devs targeted 1080p instead of 4K though for next-gen, it'd probably be much sooner.

UE4 is pretty good at it with current high end hardware, so we may see it sooner rather than later.

youtube.com/watch?v=otmxoK4lCNw
see the presentation around 1:31:00

This, its the difference between pre-rendering and rendering actively.

You can allow the super computers to render all that glorious lighting for hours for every frame.

30-40 years, maybe

Wow! It's almost like you don't know how light sources in 3d programs work on objects, and why having that many light sources of that intensity would lead to shitty shadows being placed where there would never be any!

youtube.com/watch?v=GXI0l3yqBrA&app=desktop

That screenshot isn't from me although my R5 1600/1060 6gb runs it at 1080p/30fps as well as my FX 6300

I'm a lighting artist at my own game development company. I know what the fuck I'm talking about.

They rerendered TS1 a few years ago for the BR release and it still took multiple minutes per frame and hundreds of render stations vs one shit hardware concsole that puts out one frame at least every 33ms

b-but Sup Forums told me about muh GHz, surely they know better than the facts on the internet

CONSOLES. That's it.

The Order, Uncharted 4, Horizon, Hellblade, FFXV, Witcher 3 all look better than Toy Story 1 does and miles better than KH3.

>almost all of those games are console exclusives

really makes you think

W3 and FFXV are on PC too.

Because videogames arent fully prerendered cgi you fucking idiot.

They're interactive environments and they have to look reasonably good from all sides.

Videogames will never catch up to cgi films, as those are a dedicated medium.

It's been over twenty years and video games still don't look as good as Beast Wars.

>muh 25 years
you seriously don't understand the differences in numbers?

a minute of toy story was rendered for days by multiple high end pc-s on render farms.

You don't just need "several times" more power to achieve that in real time rendering, you need thousands more power, and yeah, we've didn't achieved that yet.

Nobody here plays videogames, they certainly don't develop anything of note either.

Don't kid yourself.

>bumpmapping over normalmapping
Toy Story 1 looks like shit comparatively.

Because the left is a screenshot of a low quality video

>high end
High end in 1995 is low end budget by todays standard.

Consoles

So, this is the power of 1995 PCs, woah

Are we going to have this thread every day? This must be the 20th time I've seen it.

I think KH looks a bit too good. Too cute and soft.
Meanwhile TS looks plastic, and not only the toys.

It's hard to conciliate the lighting and the shading in all the different artstyles in KH, but they did a good job. The game would look awful with a plastic shading like the movie.

>Shilling your shitty Twitter on a classic Friends moment

>multiple
>thousands times more power

google images, buddy

And a single computer now is more powerful than all of those combined, and multiple of a modern computer shits on that too.

Not directed at you user, whoever that lobster faggot is. I hate shitty watermarks like that, it's like the people that demand credit for ripping sprites.

looks shite tee-bee-aytch

>It's a Sup Forums has no clue what video rendering is like and thinks that a console should be able to ouput the same quality of graphics a render farm running 24/7 for months

Newsflash retards, pre-rendered will always look miles ahead or real time for what's current at the time

Woody just looks straight-up better in KH. The bed was likely rendered flat just to save polygons. I don't see why they would bother adding unnecessary etail like that.

oh ok, try to render toy story and tell me how well it goes

500 megabyte hard drives were pretty expensive at that time. Seems excessive to me.

It's mostly about the lighting and I think they did a good job. Current lighting techniques are slowly moving towards 'realism', but it's still bullshittery that just werks. If it looks good, then it's good enough. See when everyone used phong for example even though it's shit by today's standards.

Rendering. Toy Story is a film that doesn't have to render in real time nor in 60 FPS. The standards are completely different.

I've seen blender porn that looks better than Toy Story 1.

do you have some ellie from the last of us?
I missed a couple of them and can't find them anywehere

The movie is also originally 480p (if that) 24fps, and that's after having been rendered.

It's called beasties

>get great looking toy story in vidya
>it's in some fucking weeaboo chink shit where you can't even play as woody or buzz

it's not even the voices
the characters have no personality in that video
