After playing Grimoire, I'm interested in checking other old-school blobbers. Especially because while I enjoyed Grimoire, I found Grimrock and MMX pretty dull. So, any recommendations Sup Forums?
By the way, I'm looking for turn-based games, and I'd strongly prefer "modern" conveniences like fast-walking, an automap and the ability to place notes on it.
>old-school blobbers >"modern" conveniences like fast-walking, an automap and the ability to place notes on it.
You're fucked. You could get something like Grid cartographer to help map i guess. Or go ask on the codex.
Daniel Walker
Ok, ignore the "modern" conveniences part. Any recommendations at all?
Brody Rodriguez
Wizardry 6 snes version
Justin Diaz
Why the SNES one?
Noah Wood
Because the pc one looks like crap.
If you can stomach that, play the pc version so you can use the same party in 7 and 8
Benjamin Rodriguez
>blobbers
Oh boy, here we go again.
Parker Evans
Sure. In rough order:
Wiz 6-8 trilogy. (6 has a mod for automap, 7 has it kind of inbuilt, 8 is 3d but really fucking good.) Don't play the snes 6 version, your save won't carry over.
Realms of Arkania trilogy ( has iso combat).
Might and Magic World of Xeen.
All generally considered the kings of the turn based blobbers.
Ryan Bennett
Ok
Great, thank you.
David Bell
If it's gotta be grid based movements, go with Might and Magic 3, 4 and 5 the latter two known as World of Xeen as they combine into one bigger game together. Cartography is in, but you have to learn the skill first.
If movement in a 3D world isn't an issue, then go for Wizardry 8 as well.
the story is nothing special, just play whichever games look interesting enough
Easton Perry
Poorly worded, but you know what I mean. Also The Dark Savant trilogy is considered to be the best one, so you can skip the previous ones if you'd rather start with the newer games in the series.
Jayden Cooper
Since you recognized the art style, I'll give you a straight answer.
This is an older one made by either the same team or just the artist.
The "Z" in the title makes it 10x cooler.
Lincoln Clark
"bootleg" isn't a positive either.
William Cox
Indeed.
Angel Young
Didnt play this one because i thought other their games are just vn
John Flores
I had no idea they remade this game, but it looks like it's pretty ugly and buggy.
Angel Davis
Does Lands of Lore still hope up? I remember it fondly, but it's been years since I played it. Can't even remember if it had an automap.
On that note, I don't even mind drawing a map in those dungeon crawlers, though what did piss me off is that you never knew where in the dungeon you'd start off, so if you guessed wrong, you'd either have to transfer to a new paper or tape another paper to the edge of the one where you ran out of space.
William Williams
Eye of the Beholder 1 is excellent. A good variety of party compositions, simple story line, each dungeon level has a unique theme, tons of secrets and some moderately challenging puzzles. EOB 2 is even better, although 3 seems to be universally hated.
As others have mentioned, Wizardry 8 is the best of that series in my opinion (the banter between party members is incredible) and I personally love M&M 6-8.
Luke Hernandez
Alot of companies don't really make it obvious when their games have actual gameplay. People like me have to investigate and research to find the good ones.
This one uses a skill tree system where you can continue leveling up skills you've already learned or unlock new ones, but it doesn't reveal what the later skills are that you'll unlock until you fulfill the requirements. Each character has a different skill tree. This is the Priest's.
Levi Ward
Yes, in fact Lands of Lore is a good entry point if you're new to dungeon crawlers.
William Wright
Dungeon crusaderz was for other company i think they broke up and formed new one
Carson Price
OP here, I'll give them a look, thanks.
Michael Sanchez
Regarding manual mapping I'd suggest using a spreadsheet program. While it is nice to have physical maps I find the ease of a spreadsheet program to be too high to pass up. You can then also pass your maps onto someone else should the need arise.
Adam Martinez
Is there a decent app to help you draw maps while you're playing a vintage dungeon crawler? Something simple that lets me place a line for walls and maybe a few icons or a comment for each box of a grid? Same way as if I were drawing on paper?
Jackson Cook
Instead of the typical equip system you see in other games, each of your characters has 1 accessory slot and 3 magic stone slots. Magic stones can give you simple bonuses like increasing your max HP to more interesting ones like adding poison effect to your attack. You can also upgrade some stones to make the effect stronger.
Julian Johnson
It is, just don't play Wiz IV unless you hate yourself.
Jace Powell
It was just as you said previous game of the same artist. dc was for kaguya , regalis for sirius few years later
Luis Garcia
Yeah, I've heard about it.
Jackson Robinson
Either use a paint program with grid function and snap to grid enabled. A spreadsheet program like microsoft excel where you can fill in cells using different colors for different landmarks, or try this program: zerker.ca/zzone/2010/01/10/dungeon-mapper-0-1-alpha/
I was surprised I couldn't find an offline version of the Etrian Odyssey mapper, I figured somebody would have ported it just for the sake of it.
Henry Rivera
Honestly, all-in-all it is a pretty meaty game. If the team were to go back and give it some QoL changes for today's computers, they could definitely release this on Steam if they wanted and earn those weeb-bucks.
Ryder Sanchez
Wiz 7 for the closest thing to Grimoire. Wiz 8 for the "blobber" ever made. Might and Magic 4 - 7 were all fun too.
Adam Torres
I just hope they still get the same funding under this new company to continue making games with the same or better quality. Creating an actual game costs alot more than just your typical VN.
Dylan Williams
Nope enjoy you shitty sakura crap instead
or rpg maker trash with hentai scenes
new sirius games look like its gonna be slg only wit6hout rpg
Nathan Ross
Isles of Terra is better than 4 and 5
Isaiah Ward
Thanks user.
Ian Lopez
I just want them to bring one over to Steam so these weeb plebs can experience what they're missing. They can't into finding Japanese games outside of Steam on their own anyway.
>new sirius games look like its gonna be slg only wit6hout rpg I think it's related to one of their older games. Can you imagine it's been 9 years now since they made DC2 and they're still around to make new games?
Joseph Martinez
Dungeon Master 1-2
or just search them by genre on some sites like Abandonia for old games.
Michael Garcia
MIGHT AND MAGIC SIX AND SEVEN, PLEB
Jose Wilson

Can't help the feeling that the pic is somewhat incomplete...
Cooper Edwards
>didn't bother to finish it That's a shame, but it's your game. You play how you want.
Andrew Price
Map were boring as fuck
Kayden Carter
most dungeon crawler maps are boring if you think about it.
Jeremiah Torres
Not knowing jap doesn't help neither
Chase Hill
Please, don't call them "Blobbers"
Aaron Edwards
in dc you at least had typical 3d dungeon...
Camden Torres

Connor Gray
>excited to see a dungeon crawler thread on Sup Forums >it's just memes You guys are so fucking shit at everything.
Jacob Flores
The remake is horribad, don't even think about it
Austin Adams
What fucking memes? People hate that term as much as people into roguelikes hate when you call roguelites roguelikes.
