Tons of fantasy rpg games

>tons of fantasy rpg games
>almost no good sci-fi rpg games

The mass effect series started off strong, but the last game was so bad, they shelved it.

I want a good isometric sci-fi RPG

All that comes to mind for true sci fi is Strange Journey, Larange Point on the nes, the KOTOR games, Freelance, and Deus Ex.

Try Prey 2017.

I can never tell if these threads are serious or shitposting.

Observer?

Anachronox is terribly underrated.

Where is this image from?

Never heard of it, I'll check it out, thanks since this looks cool.

Idk I found it on a cyberpunk thread on Sup Forums

Space Station 13

Is Skyrim in space really too much to ask for?

At least we'll get Cyberpunk 2077, Eventually.

Not the same user, but hope you'll enjoy the ride. Anachronox is easily one of my favorite games of all time.

It's a much harder setting to master, and with less public appeal.
Very unfortunate, but it makes sense.

>the last game was so bad, they shelved it.
I'd say that's a bit harsh on Mass Effect 2. It might not have been a masterpiece, but it wasn't all that bad either

It's not a role-playing game though. More close to the point-and-click adventures.

Kotor 1 and 2 are the only games that I know of that are better sci-fi RPGs than mass effect.

Freelancer, too.

Sci-fi needs a bare minimum of creative work. Fantasy can always fall back on variations on Tolkien or Arthurian legend, which are both God tier settings so even the dumb copies are passable. There is no equivalent for sci-fi.

Will it be an average game or actually a decent one ? The setting seems interesting to say the least

RPGs have too small an audience
we ain't gonna see any more RPGs that aren't indie games

if you think anything with a dialogue wheel isn't an action game with RPG elements then you're literally retarded
yes, that includes if the action is shit

After Risen 3? I wouldn't hold my breath, user.

1313 had such potential

I don't know how the Risen games got worse progressively. It's not like Piranha Bytes don't know how to make games but it's just baffling how they managed to come up with Risen 3 after the first Risen game (and Gothic1&2)

I get that cyberpunk is technically sci-fi, but does anyone separate them the same way they separate steampunk and fantasy?

Because you really can't do much with space so the japs avoid it, and the burgers are too stupid to realise it so they think another muscle-loaded "space marine" with some generic alien creatures which conveniently usually have two eyes, two ears, legs and arms and some stupid nonsense plot to do with "space politics" and "space wars".
The genre is a joke to watch and its creativity is fucking pathetic.

RPG codex is trying to meme it as RPG savior but my hopes are still dim.

first i heard of that, but looks pretty interesting, and gothic is always shilled around here so I guess thats a good thing

Well, there's The Technomancer. It's sort of a Kotor with terribly clunky combat. If your standards aren't so high you may squeeze some enjoyment out of it.

Or go play Anachronox like some user recomended above. A hidden masterpice

The combat in sci-fi RPG is pretty much always shit. Mass Effect went for the Gears of War cover shooter with a few meme superpowers and that's the best we've had as combat in sci-fi RPG.
Modern day and futuristic weapons and tactics don't go well with traditional roleplay combat mechanics.

But Gothic gets shilled because it's actually good. They haven't been able to release an above average game since Risen in my opinion.

NIGGERS WHERE IS MY SPACE FANTASY

if we were to judge videogames by concept art, epic mickey and remember me are the citizen kains of gaming,

i tried this game, everything about is clunky and half assed it's virtually unplayable.

also i'm playing wasteland 2 right now, i guess that counts as a scifi rpg. good stuff, although the difficulty is very unbalanced.

Risen 2 was still alright, except for OP as fuck muskets. You still had to time your attacks and pay attention to your enemy in order not to get wiped. In Risen 3 it just became a attack mash with occasional parrying

Star Control 2
System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Kotor
Borderlands
Freelancer
FTL
Space Rangers 2
Anachronox

Those are all either sci-fi RPGs I have enjoyed or games with heavy RPG mechanics in them. Is sci-fi less used than fantasy in RPGs? Yes. Is there a lack of good sci-fi RPGs? No.

Also random image so my post gets more attention.

>wasteland 2 right now, i guess that counts as a scifi rpg. good stuff, although the difficulty is very unbalanced.
Game gets a lot of flak for some reason, but I enjoyed it greatly. I guess due to all the robots and mad science in that game, it can be called sci-fi. However, no true cRPG is balanced, that's half the charm.

I am going to hell for laughing

Shadowrun games that came out recently, especially Dragonfall and Hong Kong.

Would you hold her hand, Sup Forums?

yeah sure, if it makes her feel better.

I wouldn't call it passable. I hardly can think in a game with a proper art direction wich make justice to all these ilustrators who worked for D&D manuals or some LoTR draws.

Usually fantasy settings are hideous, specially when your compare it to their traditional counterparts

looks cool will pirate
