S3&K > Mania > 2 = CD > 1
S3&K > Mania > 2 = CD > 1
2 > 1 > 3&K > Mania > CD
Accurate
>CD
>Better than anything
Fucking Chaotix is better than CD, at least Chaotix had decent multiplayer to make up for the poorly designed and boring levels.
I've only played sonic 1 and I'm going into mania, how differently do tails/knuckles play? What benefits do sonic and tail together have?
Tails can fly and knuckles can glide and climb walls. They are essentially easy mode. As for Sonic with tails sonic can make tails fly him where he wants in mania
In what way did mania make you feel it hasn't topped S3K? Haven't played it yet because PC'd.
Mania > S3&K > CD > 2 > 1
Blue sphere mode feels off. After coming off fresh from 3&K it just doesn't feel right. Probably because the improved framerate compared to genesis. The special stages controls feel too slippery and I can't make precise turns. As for stage design it is really good but the lack of original stages kind of hurts it to. Granted the reused stages are 100% different but I wanted more new than old. Mirage saloon is also too short. Last thing that really hampered my enjoyment was finding a bug I did two times in a row in Flying battery where I was trapped on one of those monkeybars and was unable to move while stuck in some sort of floating pose. Gonna upload a video on that bug soon and tweet it to whitehead so they know it exist and fix it in a patch
The only reason people would put any Sonic game before Mania is nostalgia
This, although I might actually prefer Mania over 3&K. This game is fucking crazy.
Oh and one more thing you can't use super peel-out or sonic 3 &k shield unless you play no save mode.
Mania > CD (2011) > 3 > 2 > K > 1
That sounds like only a slight difference, but it's fair.
For me it makes up some small gripes with the excellent stage/gimmicks design. I actually laughed at some mechanics when I found them out.
I agree with this except 2 is clearly better than CD
Because 60% of the levels are rehashed?
Yeah that restriction is weird. About glitches I hope they're actually fixing it with delay.
But the game definitely looks rad man. It easily surpasses 1,2,and CD combined I can tell ya.
Despite my problems with Mania yes it surpasses every classic game but 3&K. This is a huge complement to them because in all honesty I was expecting a half assed rom hack tier game. It is a legit real sonic game and it's good. Really impressive that fans can actually make a game of such quality
>we live in a timeline where we actually got another good genesis sonic game
>genesis Sonic game
No, it's the long lost Saturn game
>Blue sphere mode feels off
Blue sphere was always shit, was about the only thing I actually hated about S3&K.
Mania > CD > 3&K > 2 > 1
3K>1>2>CD
Haven't played Mania yet because Sega are cunts.
I'm fine with this as long as CD's the taxman version
>Saturn
A Saturn 2D Sonic game would have been way better than this shit...especially graphically.
The Saturn could do games like Super Tempo which looked way better than Mania
>bait
Mania is crippled by having too many returning levels, rather than original.
Should I wait 15 days to get Mania on PC or just get it now on console?
Close.
3&K > Mania > 2 > 1 > CD
There's nothing inherently wrong with the original Sega CD version. Has the Jap vocal songs too unlike Taxman's version and the songs are uncompressed CD quality unlike Taxman's version
get both if you have the money
Blue sphere mode feels exactly the same.
Think it has to do with the rehashed stages. Which also hurts the narrative hence they gave up on stage transitions halfway through the game. 3&K just feels more grandiose while Mania feels like a collection. Mania is still amazing and the special stages are the best in the series.
And also 3&K has 3 bonus stages that give you rings or shields. Mania only just has blue spheres... alot of blue spheres.
>this is a bad thing
The game being mediocre at best is something inherently wrong with it.
Not bait. If you think this team is better than the 90s Sonic Team you're retarded.
S3&K > Mania > CD > 2 > 1
It's the same damn game you retard.
Mania > S3&K > 2 > CD > 1
Considering his version of Sonic 1, 2, and CD are the definitive versions of those games, yes he is.
>the special stages are the best in the series.
Sucks that it has the weakest music out of all the classic special stages.
Sonic 3's comfy special stage music will probably never be topped.
It kind of is when the creativity they put into the returning levels could've instead been put into original levels.
The reused stages feel fresh though, especially in act 2. Outside of the graphics being similar the reused levels feel like they are from a remake. The act 2s are like comparing Metroid 1 to Zero Mission.
Not really. The creativity is great regardless.
>comparing 2010 technology to 90s technology
You really are retarded
I'm taking about CD as a whole. There is something inherently wrong with CD because it's a subpar game.
The collision detection is all over the place and the special stages are really choppy.
I like CD but it's really clunky to play the original. New version fixes these technical issues and makes it actually enjoyable
Follow the reply chain and don't make pointless replies
...
>all of these casuals putting Sonic 1 last
I never had a huge problem with the collision detection in the original. The special stages running at 20/30fps is how they were designed to and Taxman's version actually makes them harder.
I'll give it bonus points for added Tails but
>cropped cutscenes
>no jap vocal songs
>using compressed beta version of music instead of the real versions just to make them loop
hurt it a lot imo
Mania > S3&K > CD > 2 > 1
mania is way more consistent on zone quality, so many good surprises, loads of extras (including moves from old games) and has the advantages of a Taxman port which 3 never got. Only real advantage 3&K has is the more consistent stage transitions
They do. But idk, when playing 3&K you have goals like
"stop eggman from lauching the death egg again"
"settle the score with knuckles"
"recover the emeralds"
"don't let eggman get away"
With Mania you just run stage to stage without much thought or narrative coherence. Makes it feel almost like a Mario game almost with how disconnected stuff feels at time
It's by no means bad, but it's clear that the Sonic formula was still in its infantile stages.
So is this the Mania thread? I need somewhere to complain about how hard Blue Sphere is
3&K has better level designs overall and was completely original. CD was shit btw.
IS THE LEVEL SELECT CHEAT FOR SONIC 3 FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE??
Sonic Mania
Sonic 3
Sonic 2
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic 1
Sonic CD
Does anyone else have the blue sphere ring sound glitch?
>mania is way more consistent on zone quality
I take it there's basically no variety in level design and every damn zone is roomy as fuck. I can feel Mania becoming repetitive.
>Blue sphere was always shit
DAE like Sonic 3D Blast?
So like 1, 2, and CD?
It's a better game than CD. CD itself is fine but it has weaker level designs and is way too easy.
Tails is slower and can fly. He's easy mode.
Knuckles can glide and climb walls. He forces you down different level paths.
You not having a problem with the collison detection doesn't make it accurate though. And I have to disagree on the stages being harder on Taxman's version because I'm the exact opposite. But to each their own. You're completely right that it sucks that the cutscenes got cropped and they removed the vocals though.
It's a solid game and better than most of the other spinoffs. People shit on it because they suck at the game and can't make the jumps or keep losing the flickies.
I'll need to play it again before I can decide, but I think it might be my favorite. It feels like it blends 2 and 3&K in a way that's just right.
The only annoying aspect of classic Sonic that Mania didn't fix is the fact that getting crushed instantly kills you, regardless of rings. That is and always has been absolute bullshit.
>when playing 3&K you have goals like
No you don't, you fall into a new area and then at the end you find of Eggman was doing shit I guess
Plus if story is you big concern your priorities are all off
I rank SCD better because I feel like its slower platforming is more engaging, and the soundtrack is better. I don't feel as bored, I guess is what I mean.
Mania > 3&K > 1 = 2 > CD
Not CD thanks to the opening, ending and Metal kidnapping Amy. But yeah, you got me with 1 and 2.
Then again, I guess that's also part of the reason why I find 3&K better than those
i feel like they made oil ocean even worse.
also you instantly die in the boss fight if you're in the oil while the platforms raise back up.
>implying the game has no ulockable characters
Who else /can't find special stage rings/ here?
>i feel like they made oil ocean even worse.
>her
Alright which one of you pathetic waifufags did this?
To each his own, but I felt the opposite. CD's platforming is too easy IMO and the levels have too much empty space.
It's only bad when it's from some random level object not intended to crush you. All those speedruns of Chemical Plant ruined by getting crushed by those platforms in the water rising area before even being in the area...
Why the fuck does Hydrocity exist? I fucking hate this level.
Also, I pronounce it like toxicity.
>people listing 2 as the best
Nice meme (and wrong) opinion
It's real, and Magician best girl.
Reminder that Eggman is a feminist.
I personally called the Mania team and asked for it to be put in since it's my favorite zone. Sorry 'bout that, friend.
Mania comes slightly over 3&K for me if not only for the drop dash
unbelievably satisfying to use when you get used to it
You can just grind green hill act 1 after clearing the game once for all emeralds. There's a really easy ring there by just following the standard route
Act 1 was good but I really did not like Oil Ocean act 2 and I fucking HATED the boss. Flailing around in the oil and essentially instantly losing all your rings and not being able to retrieve them if you get hit is the worst. Got like 5 game overs from that faggot.
>running along oil ocean, gotta go fast
>through sheer bad luck suddenly run in between one of the green platforms that pop up and down and it's base right as it's coming down and die instantly before I even realize what I hit
Mania=3&K>S2=SCD>S1
Mania has some of the best level design and gimmicks, but falls short in originality NOT TOO FAR MANIA TEAMMU and also a messier story again, probably due to have to force in old stages and the force tie inlike the titan monarch is not even seen until the end cutscene
Just near impossible, it CAN be done it's just got a retard tier short window to input the code
Well I mostly use springs to time travel. I think somebody pointed out some physics differences some time ago but I personally didn't feel it.
I think CD would have benefited from having a button which turns time travel on and off because when you hit one of those past/future signposts it becomes troublesome to run fast without accidentally time traveling so you have to go basically go slow.
I'm very pleasantly surprised that the game is actually pretty tough, easily the 2nd hardest in the series (after Sonic 2). I was worried they would totally neuter the difficulty, one of my biggest gripes with Shovel Knight was that it is absolutely piss easy.
It's not even the timing window it's that the game has a bunch of frames where it drops your inputs.
What? Fuck no. Getting crushed should kill you it only makes sense.
PORN WHEN
>improved
fixed!
Why would you wait for a version that will be identical? If you have the means to get it sooner, then get it.
>the titan monarch is not even seen until the end cutscene
Isn't it in the metal sonic fight?
>bumper nipples
Shut the fuck off
It makes no less sense than not being killed by landing in a pit of spikes or lit on fire you nimrod. The point is that it's nonsensical that one thing randomly ignores rings for no reason and it's bullshit, it can lead to completely unforeseen deaths.
>mania that low
