hey at least I'm not an autismo weabcuck neet beta

Nice! You got a 4 hit buzzword chain! Try again next time for an even higher combo!

>mfw its usage of color, lighting, and atmosphere in general make it look better than some PS3 and PS4 JRPGs purely by virtue of its quality aesthetic design

Meant for xd haha

As a JRPG it will probably never be topped,as a game in general it wasn't the best but still in the god tier.

Just started it, any tips? Besides USE BUFFS?

>passing on abilities in fusions is rng
>story consists of demifiend saying nothing and doing everything for anyone that asks him
>kalpas consist mostly of mazes or invisible teleporters and sometimes even both
its a pretty great game, but i dont get when people think its a masterpiece. its got plenty of flaws desu

Like it should be released on PS4 with trophies at fucking once.

Silent protagonists are the best, the fact that the game doesn't have voice acting at all is also a plus.

>with trophies

It's not that good. I don't like it's lack of narrative or any character development. Why I'm supposed to care about his friends or the teacher, they barely got any dialogue. I just can't get invested enough in the story to care about it's characters and anything that's happening in the world, which is the reason I haven't finished yet. I like the gameplay and the fights but that wasn't enough for me t b h.

So far all the PS2 games re-released on PS4 have them, so yeah.

>m-muh exposition
you watched too much shitty modern anime
pay attention and you'll notice both the narrative and plenty of character development

It's not about exposition. It's just that the game's characters are just a bunch of people whom you have not a reason to care or listen to,telling you what to do or where to go. In all the games where I played with an silent protagonist the others characters would also tell you what to do and where to go but in a manner where you would also feel invested in it since you could see the bigger picture, that just doesn't happen for me in this game.

Never played this, but loved Devil Survivor and 3, played a little of Strange Journey but I really couldn't get into the aesthetic.
Is it worth trying?

Use debuffs.

It was topped by strange journey, the best video game ever made. Still the second best mainline and second best SMT game.

SJ > III > II > IV:A > I > IV

Sell me on this game.

Keep track of your own and your demon's weaknesses. It's important to not have multiple party members with the same weaknesses. Also try to get as many magatama as possible as they can provide resistences that will make a boss you might struggle on easy.

Strength is king here, don't focus on magic. Max out strength and after focus on vitality and agility.

My first SMT game and I'm still listening to the soundtrack 4 months later. I started Nocturne recently and uhhhhhhh, I dunno. I'm not even sure I made good demons.

...

It has a different system from press turn, a more complex moral system, a fantastic cast and story, great difficulty where you will always be challenged, and a beautiful symphonic soundtrack. It is unlike anything else, even other SMT games. Since the first time I played I adored it and it instantly became my all time favorite game.

I think you posted the wrong picture, OP.

Yeah, so did you.

This area isn't bad, it's that other one with the fucking colour swapped backgrounds and shit that made me mad. Fucking STOP.

Not the same guy, should I wait for the redux or get the ds version? I've never played SJ

...However, it's dated like shit.

Dialogue is cheap not very deep, because it's on handheld. The difficulty mostly comes from the shitty dungeon designs. The demons giving your their Essence is weird and kind of dumb, and early ones are made useless quickly.

Original.

I hate how Gore looks in the new art, head like Mr. fucking Clean here.

desu desu des !! onee-san sore ga desu desu des des desu !!

Oh god, what did I ask for?

Why is Junpei in this game?

Honestly it seems like redux might be a bit. Honestly I plan to buy whatever the best version of redux is despite having the original collector's edition of strange journey since 2010. I say play now as strange journey is such a phenomenal game that you will replay it. Also it seems like redux will simplify some things so it'll be easier going from the original to redux then the other way around.

Personally I'm a little skeptical on redux, I kind of worry about how Alex will be used in the story. I still plan to play it but I'm not so sure if it will be the definitive version depending on how much the new stuff is forced on you.

Personally I think it needs a handheld. Nocturne always seemed like one of those games that would be great on the go.

>dated like shit
>came out in 2009
Either a IV baby or ameven worse, a P5 baby.

I'm currently playing nocturn for the first time, just finished the obolysk

fuck me this game is cheap. often just unfair. I only just discovered there's no way to re-learn skills for at the very least the main character, too, so now I'm worried I've somehow fucked myself

What are some of the most essential skills?

Those are the only really JUST maps, but then you've got the boss fights in SJ which are sometimes just straight up unfair. If there's one thing I hope they fix in the remake is that they rebalance bosses.

*wipes your party*

Strange Journey is one of the worst SMT i've ever played, only the NES games are worse.

>bad soundtrack (don't blame the DS soundchip, its just boring and bland)
>shit characters
>bad locations
>most boring story in a SMT game

>symphonic soundtrack
>good

Reminder

Or even worse, I'm actually right.

It's a DS game from 2009. The field map textures do not look good, the demons sprites are small, the gameplay isn't that deep, and neither is the dialogue. Even the music, while beautiful, is compressed to shit.

Freikugel

World of stronk

You sound like an absolute chode.

With that simple combat and those teleporter mazes, it's far from the best video game ever made. It's great, but very flawed.

SJ isn't just a generic orchestral soundtrack. I can't think of any games off the top of my head that have a soundtrack that gives off such oppressive and militaristic vibes like SJ's does. The locations are also varied and visually interesting, or as visually interesting as you can hope for a DS game that isn't heavily stylized to be, the story is good if for no other reason than all of it taking place before an apocalypse is unlike other SMTs. Also, Gore and Arthur are the best Neutral reps in the series, at least of the games I've played.

The only really good skills the MC should need is fog breath and focus. Focus is essential and fog breath is basically always useful. Maybe mana drain but it's not essential like focus.
You could always be cheap and use passwords for demons if you struggle that much.
Not my fault you're a shitter. Does it look beautiful? No, but SMT has always been rather lackluster overall in terms of graphics as atlus is a small company.

Also that webm is about in sad scenes and shit. If you didn't love listening to the poundimg drums and chanting while explorimg dungeons you have genuine shit taste.

Zelenin is also best Law.

The game is about the different philosophies for how existence could be restructured. It isn't about the characters' stupid day to day life. You either haven't played long enough to be invested or you're shallow as a kiddie pool.

She isn't, but SJ has Mastema, who is actually best Law.

No, the reps of each side are genuinely the best in SJ. Though only IV's are pretty bad. As much as I do love HOY BOY I can admit he is a shit chaos rep. And Johnathan is just shit in general.

>You could always be cheap and use passwords for demons if you struggle that much.
But that's not fun, SJ bosses are just sometimes straight up not fair and that should definitely be addressed in the remake. Asherah is another example.

Did you know Mastema's real name is Master Potema?

Already missed my chance at fog breath and literally just replaced focus with an ice attack...

I thought the soundtrack was pretty bad. There's a few good tracks like Eridanus, but most the sectors' music just came off as plain Dark And Ominous with no real weight to them. The deep HEE HO vocals didn't help, what with them drowning the rest of the music out most the time.

Tried to get into this game few months ago, killed Matador and called quits cuz the game doesnt tell you much and most of the skills have weird names. Its like learning a jargon for everything.

Then Persona 5 came out and teached me most of the stuff and now i cant wait to finish this also.
What a great game with such a unique mood.

It was topped by P3 and the DDS games.

Eh, the feature exists for a reason. I do admit some things should be rebalanced, vending marine for example. At the least I would rather have spikes like SJ with ouroboros then a huge dive like IV after medusa.

The hee hos are the best part you absolute fool.

>DDS
The Mantra system is inherently flawed because unless you are telepathic you will never know what abilities are going to be best suited for an upcoming battle which makes it the only MegaTen game where you will have to actually grind at some point or another.

>P3
Worst """dungeon""" in the series and not controlling party AI is awful for obvious reasons, even if the game is balanced around it.

JUST
>P3
Nah, at least say P5 which is actually somewhat decent.

DDS and P3 are pretty bad as far as MegaTen goes, at least of the ones I've played.

>The locations are also varied and visually interesting
>Supermarket?
>Warzone
>Ice caverns
>Garden of Eden

just started the game over the weekend, its really fun

i'm having trouble with dante, can someone tell me if my demi-fiend stats/moves are good?

>If you didn't love listening to the poundimg drums and chanting while explorimg dungeons you have genuine shit taste.

You know what SMT game has a good soundtrack? Soul Hackers. You know why it is good? Because it was made before the time they thought that filling a game with movie orchestral shit was acceptable.

>any orchestral music is epin movie shit

>the feature exists for a reason.
You're right but it never felt satisfactory to me. To go back to Mem Alpeh (I really fucking hate this boss) a first time blind play through will either have the player grinding for hours or using passwords for demons, neither are a satisfactory way to defeat the final boss in my opinion.

SJ has a lot going for it, just the balance in the game is so fucked even down to the combat system: The player has access to demon co-op but enemies don't, one of the cool things about turn press is both parties follow the rules of the system whereas they don't in SJ.

before even touching any other stat you should get St to 30. Then Vi

>ma

>Leveling up Magic unironically

>complete all the kaplas
>have the GOAT team anticipating lucifer
>get to final dunegon
>beat disco boss
>game freezes

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Sadly the rest of the dungeons in SJ don't have music this good except for Eridanus

*blocks your path*
youtube.com/watch?v=6EjRCNhf_GI

DAVID NO

Generic shit

Has some good incidental music and battle music, though. I love how hopeless the ship music sounds:

youtu.be/Jl79WVdid0w

Is a warzone, ice caverns, the Garden of Eden, Hell, as well as Horologium and Bootes, not your idea of varied? There's also the upper section of Eridanus which is great too. The only ones I might not call visually interesting are Grus, seeing as it's just a junkheap, and the first section of Antlia seeing as it's just ice caverns, but even then, having an ice caverns level in a game set in the Antarctic is hardly offensive, it's just sensible.

Music might not have been the greatest in the series but it knows how to set the mood perfectly

>putting points in magic
Get strength up to AT LEAST 30 then go agility and vitality with the ocassional strength boost.

...

Because the plot and narrative isn't good. Nocture has the worst characters in mainline bar none but babbies can't see past that.

Okay, you can they're bad but you can not say they are the worst when IV:A's cast exists.

>Nocture has the worst characters in mainline bar none
Hehe

>This video game will never be topped by other JRPGs.
FTFY, play a proper CRPG user.
>emulating that shit
God it's beautiful

>Why I'm supposed to care about his friends or the teacher
You're not supposed to care, because you lose your humanity, and they lose theirs.

Nocturne is one of the best rpgs made in general.

No, IVA actually has some good characters like Gaston and Dagda. Can't say the same about Nocturne

>Nocturne has no good character-

Yeah because i play SMT for the extremely deep plot.

The girls are literally insufferable. If anything the nocturne cast is never actually annoying.

I liked him.

Makes me feel like telling you to play more JRPG's.

You're joking right? His motivation and plans don't make any sense if it wasn't for maniax.

how can I pass through sector eridanus' 2nd floor? I am stuck for hours now, and I cant find an upgrade for the main app

>I vant to suck your blood, little boy

What would say is better honestly, I'm genuinely interested.

Final Fantasy IX, Nocturne and Suikoden II are objectively the three best JRPGs.

>it's okay for Nocturne to have a poor narrative because other mainline games besides II and If have a poor narrative

Nah, my vote is nocturne, breath of fire 4, ane mother 3.

Except none of them do. Well IV's is kind of shitty but it's more of how many plotholes it has, the actual story had potential. You can argue IV:A if you were to count the characters as part of the story.

Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song tops it easily for me, in general for the genre due to its mechanics and how you progress which again is interlaced within some of its mechanics.

>just started Nocturne and got to the club in Shibuya
>conspicuous lack of cyberpunk motifs so far
Is it like this for the rest of the game?
