Dark alliance for the atmosphere/good world building and Champions of Norrath for the loot fest and amazing co op

Dark Alliance III fucking when

fuck that nostalgia
Remember long nights with a friend in front of my ps2 playing through dark alliance

Yep.

My sister and I did Dark Alliance, one of my good friends I haven't talked to in a few years used to play Champions of Norrath with me.

We'd do a full playthrough like every night almost for months.

I got to work emulating DA1, got it to finally run smoothly and its reminding me how a good RPG feels to play

Its a real shame you can,t get it on PC for multiplayer, gonna play through both DA then go on to CoN and CtA

even got my DS4 controller to work with it

Probably never ;__;

Dark Alliance 2 is my favorite

DA 2 has much more interesting skills than DA1, but the story in DA1 is so damn good

played 1 with my brother a couple of weeks ago, held up incredibly well, backtracking was kind of lame though although it was mostly his fault for picking such shit skills

when we were young we thought the game ended at Lord Xantam

I like them all. There's also a Fallout Brotherhood game on the same engine. It's alright, good at times.

If you play it on dollphin you can use netplay for multiplayer

I have gotten DA1 to work over the Internet using Dolphin. The main issue is desync, you and whoever you are playing with need to be playing with the same resolution and aspect ratio or the game will break due to the way the camera functions. It was a hassle to figure out, but works smoothly when you get it right

Both Dark Alliance games are superior to Norrath but it was still a damn good game, anything that copied Dark Alliance so closely was bound to be good.

Can you play PS2 online multiplayer games on a phat PS3 via emulation? I sorta got to the point where I managed to launch the online mode of champions of norrath, but then the emulator required a 'modem.config'.
Norrath wasn't able to create this file, but my copy of jak x racing could.
But it was needed on both sides and the file was copyprotected on the ps3, so my online buddy never got the file.

Is there any modern game that is similar at all to dark alliance?

Diablo III probably.

:(

Maybe copy pasta the jak x modem.config to norrath and change anything that looks like it needs to be changed. I.e file paths, names

No unfortunately. They usually go too far in either direction. Dark Alliance had the perfect balance between couch co-op action and rpg.

Yep.
Elfsong > Purple Wyrm as well.

I never got the chance to play the DA games much, but Champions of Norrath was one of my favorite PS2 games for a long time. I loved it so much that I basically got a PSP just for Untold Legends, which I strongly recommend to anyone who likes these kind of games. Just the first one and maybe the second one though, not the PS3 one that came out later

Snowblind has merged with Monolith. They're forced to do sequels for Shadow of Mordor to the end of the world.

Grim Dawn kinda had a similar feel

Once it's on the PS3, it's out of my reach. I can't copy or edit in any way. I could probably extract it on my modded PS2, but I'm not really sure if the PSN would allow me to create a server on my PS3 in the first place. It seems unlikely.
.

Not too long ago I managed to snag a copy of BG:DA2 for xbox from a local game store. Can't wait to play co-op with my brother-in-law during the holidays.

gonna do this with CoN then, sounds dope

also Karne is dead

Hell yeah I loved the Champions of Norrath games.
My brother and I would play them co-op, and we loved the SHIT out of it. It was especially cool that you could port characters over from 1 to 2, and that there was the branching good and evil paths in 2.
And the loot was amazing.

is CoN 1-2 as buggy as people make it out to be? that seems to be a common complaint in the reviews I've seen, but fuck knows how credible they are

>Karne
>dead

Whatever you need to tell yourself, bro.

How do you feel about the decision to make arrows not unlimited anymore? I was pissed at the time.

The last game made by Snowblind. It's actually quite decent, but it lacks a lot of things which made their previous games great.

It has a solid couch co-op though and I've played it three times with my girlfriend, trying out each of the different classes.

>get my leg destroyed on a car accident
>have to rest some weeks on the sofa
>my sister see me playing all the time the same games (specially ffx)
>decides to rent me some games
>it's dark alliance
>I like it a lot
>next week she goes to rent another game for me
>it's again dark alliance
>she says sorry, I fucked up and wasted the money
>mfw

Yes.

This game is definitely not appreciated enough.

Don't listen to this guy. Grim Dawn is pure Diablo 2 if anything.

You might want to check out Victor Vran and Vikings: Wolves of Midgard.

Did one of these games have a boss fight with one of those sonic dragons? Yrthak or something like that?

I have the vaguest fever-dream like memory of fighting one of those in some cheapo imitation.

Yeah I guess that is some pretty deep stuff. Maybe even impossible.

It's pretty simple after you and your friend force the same resolution. If it does ever break due to some incident, all you have to do is copy your save and send it over to friend, then have him paste it to his save Directory and overwrite the broken save.

n-nani

too bad xantam has a silky smooth evil voice, why arent there more beholder bosses in games?

>leave the Elfsong to wander around night-time Baldur's Gate on a whim
>dozens and dozens of civilians going about their daily NPC lives
>god's gift to comfy OST playing all the while
>youtube.com/watch?v=vkX0QvqBFMY
thought this shit was mindblowing in 2001 or whenever

Got all set up a year or so ago to play with my friend on Dark alliance. Ordered it for like £15 but it fucking froze in the tavern every time.

War in the North

>not the superior version of these games

Some devs should just do a dark alliance clone

I had the most fun playing as the necromancer and using shadow ribbon on everything.

>Untold Legends
I remember enjoying this, but even my 12 or whatever self realised how shallow it was compared to DA

Paths of Exile

>return to arms had the best weapons, armour, skills/magic and two new playable races
>champions of norrath had the better story and fleshed out worlds

It's not fair

Anyway, how is your sex life?

...

Yeah but for a PSP game (and a launch title at that) the game was pretty dope

If only it would have had a better soundtrack. I ended up turning it off and playing my own shit instead.

Made my way down furfag mountain, got the scimmy

Anyone remember what gems do in DA1? I remember in DA2 you could make enchanted weapons with them but no clue what they are for here

I don't remember them doing anything in DA1. Besides just selling for gold.

Besides being a great game, DA1 provided me with some of my earliest fap material

Pic related

You and me both, bro
