A non-delayed PC port because I still haven't played it yet and you're already discussing about the sequel and FUCK YOU SEGA
Original stages, slightly less goofy and with stages interconnected better so it has the adventure feel of 2 and 3&K
It isn't really a big deal but Mania feels very like generations in that it's a bunch of cool stages lumped together while 3&K had an actual antagonist and shit happened and stages felt like you progressing to a goal. It's relatively unimportant in the grand scheme but it stuck out to me as I played.
Door Into Summer and Marina Madness are the only good things about that game
still, it would be nice to see Mighty in a game again
Realise the greatest missed opportunity in Sonic and make a co op oriented game with Chaotix mechanics but with actually good stage design that is made around the mechanic
The joint ring is actually fun as fuck when both players know how to use it but there's no real reason to know because chaotix doesn't seem to ever expect you to master it and just gives you broken shit like charmy to cheese stages instead
This will never happen of course but it would be nice as a secret sonic + tails mode or something

Completely original stages. It's obvious that Sonic Team's hampering of Sonic Mania is what holds back some potential of the game. 4 stages that are original isn't too bad because the old levels feel so god damn fresh it makes playing Sonic Generations pretty laughable in comparison if you think about it.
I mean honestly they don't even feel like the original stages anymore: that's how god damn remixed they are, and the big surprises in eve those stages Holy fuck Chemical Plant, Mirage Saloon and Stadust Speedway's bosses in particular was big enough to give the collective finger to Sonic Team and say "This is how it SHOULD be done".
The taste I got of a completely original, new, 100% Sonic game was so brief in Mania that I just want all of that next time.
No more Iizuka butting his fucking face in this saying that it NEEDS to have the older stages to sell. It's proven now that the talent behind Christian Whitehead and others is more than capable of being able to make a full fledged game of completely original creation.
I want them to be unshackled next time.

All original stages. The new stages in Mania are so fucking good, it just goes to show they would be more than capable of doing it if they had the proper budget and time.

Better self-contained stage transitions. I want a sense that Sonic is physically travelling from location to location in a logical manner with random space/time bending.
I like the idea of a circular progression where the blue blur wakes up in one location and logically travels from place to place eventually ending up in the same place he started.
I want time limits to stay but would certainly like an unlockable/option to turn off the clock for comfy exploration.
Happy to keep the original 16-bit art style but cel-animation worked BEAUTIFULLY for the remake of Wonder Boy The Dragon's Trap and I'd definitely love to see Tyson Hesse's art style in game. Hand drawn cel-animated Sanic platformer.
More of that same Michael Jackson vibe from Sonic 3 in the soundtrack.
Perhaps instead of the early-90s Memphis Group art style to transition to that mid-90s tech/grunge influenced art style that you start to see in Sonic & Knuckles. However, I'm happy either way.
