If you were given the opportunity to Load Game by a god, essentially resetting the entire universe, including you, to some specified time, but not knowing if determinism is real, would you do it? Usually the "decline reward" reward is some kind increase in relationship.
I always liked the balance is Mount and Blade because it usually a trade off between short term financial gain (Which can be pretty important early on) and long terms benefits from honor and village/lord relations.

Shadowrun games are the only games that I can think of that do this. There's a few times in both Hong Kong and Dragonfall where taking the moral high ground gives you little to no reward or puts you in a more difficult situation.

That's such an exaggeration. It's just that you often make decisions on a whim or emotionally as opposed to rationally, the rationalization comes in later.
When I was a kid there was two things I noticed about moralfag vs evil options
1. Evil option had more physical rewards, like money or loot. Good option was usually just XP.
2. The good option was usually more difficult. The evil one let you weaken the enemy before you fought or avoid a fight with an extremely powerful enemy.
These days there's no real difference.
It's not even lately, he's talking about Baldirs gate 1. There's also a lawful evil dwarf characterized by his love of money who will leave the party if you're too good even though being good almost always gets you more money.
