>gated analog stick
>one shoulder button
>that C stick
Is that enough?

the dpad and the z-button are horrible.

>Notchy analog stick
>Dogshit dpad
>Terrible button placement

It's literally one of the worst controllers i've ever used.

z button i agree but the dpad? fuck off.

How up your own ass do you have to be to genuinely believe this?

it's actually horribly unergonomic

>"people" that play smash

The controller isn't ideal for smash it's just what the players are used to

The dpad is terrible man.

It's a tiny little spongey thing which is absolutely useless for any sort of precision inputs.

>analog
The grip is still better than most and lasts a long time.
>one shoulder button
>z, l, r
>c stick
There's nothing wrong with it.
>dogshit dpad
Only dualshock is better, it's just small.
>terrible button placement
?

Offer me a controller that is superior to it in more ways than it's inferior.

Make way, GOAT coming through

>the gamecube analog stick lasts a long time
>triggers are shoulder buttons
What's it like to be so wrong at once

Dreamcast Controller
PS1 Dualshock
PS2 Dualshock
PS3 Dualshock
Xbox Duke Controller
Xbox Controller
Xbox 360 Controller
Xbox One Controller
Wii U Pro Controller

The Gamecube Controller is seriously one of the all time worst controllers i've EVER used.

Only manlets didn't like the OG Xbox controller.

Manlet here and even I loved it.

>the gamecube analog stick lasts a long time
It lasted several years for me until it peeled off.
>triggers are shoulder buttons
UGHH, WHY DOES IT PUSH AND CLICK

Let's see...
>shit button layout
>shit trigger
>shit d pad
>shit C stick
>small
>cheap plastic feel

The GC controller fucking sucked.

They're triggers with buttons at the end of their travel and that makes the buttons themselves useless in almost every situation

Those triggers are ass. The d-pad isn't very good either. Rest is alright.

The half-press, full-press thing the L and R Triggers had going on was weird as fuck.

examples?
Prove.

It's a real "meat and potatoes" controller. Since it feels like holding two potatoes.

Far enough to attend smash tournaments, that's where the smell comes from.

>half an L press

>Pro Melee players actively hunt controllers that have certain malfunctions

Gee, I wonder why

Dpad was good, I agree with the rest tho

Honestly, I only chose that pic because it was high quality, I don't care much for tr4sh or melee outside nostalgia.

I'm a nintendokid but the Dual Shock is kinda perfect.
It's just a SNES controller with two more triggers and two sticks

The point is that the controller is that much of a piece of shit that people want it to NOT function properly

>maylay
>wind waker
>sunshine
>primefags
good god, there is something about the gamecube that produces the most OBNOXIOUS fanbases ever

>Prove.

Nothing to prove, that's just the reality.

The GC controller is fucking garbage by comparison with virtually every first party controller on the market, fuck even Logitech and shit make better third party controllers than the GC.

You can say it's garbage all you want, it doesn't mean anything unless you back it up.

>some dude actively made a fightbox for smash, because the GC controller was so fucking bad

This entire thread backs it up retard.

>one shoulder button
>no grip and nub of a second stick
>thinking these are positives when every controller does not do this bullshit
It's like everyone who praises the gamecube controller is some kind of ironic shitposting hipster. Holy fuck.

>that awful fucking d-pad
>the inevitable loose/drifting analog stick
>the retarded little nub
>the fucktarded face buttons that try too hard to be unique rather than sticking with the tried and true diamond shape
>only one Z button
>no select button
Nintendo outdid this piece of shit literally a generation later with the Classic Controller
>properly sized and positioned d-pad
>solid, long lasting, symmetrical analog sticks
>diamond button placement
>two Z buttons
>select and home button
Only thing the Gamecube controller did better was the pressure sensitive, clicky shoulder buttons.

>L/R buttons take two years to fully push in
>no select button
>d pad is so small it might as well not even be there
>face buttons are fucking retarded two of them are in different shapes, none of this works well with multiplatform games
>c stick is smaller and different because lol just cause
the gamecube controller is fucking terrible. the ONLY good thing about it was that it was durable THATS IT

just don't reply to them

The triggers on the GC are like psuedo analog. They are initially analog but have a button press at the end of their click, you can check this on Dolphin. If you go to bind a GC controller with an adapter you have to have the trigger slightly pushed down and push the click in when binding the button.

Unless you make a claim that triggers Sup Forums,
you won't get many replies.
I just wanted other opinions because dualshock 4 annoyed me with how you have to bend your hands because of the location of the control sticks and how narrow the controller is.
>no grip and nub of a second stick
I really have never had a problem with either of these.

I like the steam controller
Fight me

...

holy fucking shit gamecubefags blown the FUCK out

But user.....
Old GameCube controllers exist

Not even the best Nintendo controller

>3 inch cable
>Not knowing that's a modern gamecube controller with like a 10 fucking foot long cord
>Not knowing that the gamecube face button layout is based on frequency of use and is literally superior, it's also still 4 fucking buttons, and not at all the reason the Gamecube had trouble controller multiplats
>Not knowing gated analog is superior.
>Not liking CLAK youtube.com/watch?v=cfYXxqvd-Mg&t=155s
Shit tastes man

The dpad and asymmetrical Z button thing are stupid in any fucking year though. Gamecube pad is comfy and does a bunch of things right like gated analog, button layout based on use, and the shoulder buttons. but it's only good for gamecube games

The 360 controller is nearly perfect. They just need to fix the fucking d-pad. It's wierd that xbone and ps4 are down grades when they had perfectly fine controllers before.

Best d-pad:
>Saturn Model 2
>Dualshock 1-3

Best button labels:
>Sony

Best analog placement:
>Symmetrical

Best analog stick
>Gamecube

Worst analog stick
>C-stick

Gone but not forgotten:
>RIP analog face buttons. You died for a fucking touch pad and gimmicky glowy panel on the DS4.

The XBOX controllers have always been A+ for comfort but I always get autistic over niggling issues like their squishy face buttons and always less than ideal d-pad. I don't dislike asymmetrical analog layout but do prefer it. Its just more comfortable for me to play shooters with my thumbs syemmetrical in one position and 2D shit like platformers with them symmetrical in another.

No disrespect for anyone who feels different.

>They just need to fix the fucking d-pad.
they did?

It's damn good but I barely even used it on my WiiU because The tablet was so fucking good m8

Trying to turn it into a PC pad now but fuck me it's a pain in the ass. Those mayflash adapters straight up do not fucking work.

>Shaq is a manlet

if there was literally any better controller then everyone would use that controller

ten of thousands of dollars are on the line numbnuts. the people are going to use the best controller. and they use the GCN controller

>if there was literally any better controller then everyone would use that controller
That would make sense but rules negate sense

I also wasn't talking about competitive smash at all

The Dualshock dpad fucking sucks. Dpads need to be seperate buttons and not a shitty squishy pad

>rules
there are no rules ever that say you have to use a gamecube controller

Thanks for actually posting an opinion instead of just shitting on the gc controller.
Is dualshock 3 wider than 4? That's my only problem with it.

>Dpads need to be seperate buttons
But dualshock is the only one that actually does this. What the hell are you on about? Every input on the dualshock is crystal clear and only the dualshock and Saturn's model 2 afford rapid input rotation to adjacent inputs as well as the snappiest converse inputs like left-to-right of any controller out there.

They are literally perfect. My only gripe with the DS is that when its new the texture can be a little much on the thumb after extended play.

I'm not entirely sure. Haven't used a DS4 in a while. I remember it being fairly comfortable but I've never run into the hand crunch others do with the various DS controllers. Is it your thumbs bumping into eachother or is it just the hands/backside fingers in general?

Could be your approach to holding it. I have pretty average (for American) hands. I can only barely palm a basketball for whatever reference that might be. I've found, at least with my friends, that a lot of people hold the controller the way the XBOX encourages. Sort of encompassing the entire thing so that the surface area of their hand and the controller are both consumed with one another. Where I was in the habit from old school controllers of cradling the sides in a sort of nook out from my palm, more between it and my fingers.

It's annoying to have to move my thumb diagonally to move the control stick straight up and the backside feels very off.

>worst analog stick
>not Atari 5200

Hah. Maybe for fucking DOS games!

That was a digital stick. There was no analog input.

Huh. Up feels like up to me. That sounds like a mental map issue and nobody can be "wrong" about that. Sometimes what works for one guy just can't for another. As for the other you could try repositioning but if you have to go against what feels natural or comfortable to enjoy something when an equivalent already works for you then there's no sense in forcing it really.

Life is what it is. Some things can't be helped.

>no doug button
how the fuck do you even doug on that piece of shit?

The L and R buttons were ass don't lie user

>backtracking this hard

You mention good things as if they are bad things.

Holy shit, I just witnessed a literal murder of OP

It's the best way to play RE4 IMO.

>one prominent face button like they thought games rarely use more than one button
outside baby games like Mario it sucks

I do not understand why smashfags have such an obsession with the GC controller. I fucking hate it. The button layout sucks and the pro controler, classic controller, and even the wii u gamepad are 100 times better to use.
Is it because the GC is the only one that's wired instead of wireless?

Very simple, when you grow up with something you have a tendancy to like it. I grew up playing GC a lot, and I like the controller despite its shortcomings. It just feels comfortable to hold.

The D-pad is too small and in an awkward position.

The ABXY buttons are in a retard cluster that is not conductive to many games.

The and L and R buttons don't feel very good.

Yup, which is why the Wavebird, small Xbox classic, 360, and DS2 are my favorites.

>inb4 faggot/shit taste

>Only dualshock is better
Even worse of a dpad. Enjoy your blisters.

>blisters
?

It is the GOAT for platforming game. Having the A buttom be that big and the B buttom just a slide away was so good for platformers.

Shooters though, holy shit it was obnoxious

The Xbox One controller is really the perfect controller to play on PC.

Z button is retarded in its size and placement, A button is too big and B is too far away from Y and X, dpad is the second worst only to the xbox 360 and that stupid nub of a c stick.

>Nintendo's typical useless dpad, now bite-sized to be even more useless
>asymmetrical sticks
>no left bumper to compliment Z
>no select button equivalent
>odd face button forms/layout

It does its job well enough but it's far from the best controller out there.

Since the plastic and all the buttons and sticks feel cheap as shit the only saving grace is that it feels like you could throw it against a wall and it wouldn't break, but I'm not even sure if that's true.

>feel cheap
?
It felt nice and durable if a bit clicky

>a shiny coat of paint on the surface cross of the dpad fixes the actual problem of a floaty seemingly half-stick base

>Everyone shitting on the face buttons
>no one understands that the unique color and shape makes it incredibly easy for hand-eye coordination for people not used to games, and the layout makes every button as close as possible to the "default" A button, so you never feel like having to reach over to press another button

I have never seen a thread with so many trash opinions.

Kek, I've actually held this before, I laughed at my friend for owning it.

>not liking a dpad you can use without moving your thumb
This is how I know you're a weekender.

360 controller is basically a better GC controller. It fixed the weird lack of a left Z button and had a higher quality C stick. That said I think the GC bean buttons are very underrated.

Symmetrical sticks are uncomfortable garbage for anyone with adult sized hands.
