It's a good game but it's also overrated.
It's a good game but it's also overrated
it did more harm than good
great thread
Ah, the perfect autumn game.
ok
This game did 9/11
every good game is overrated due to the incredible number of mediocre games
It has great gunplay but the bosses are kinda weak. Escort section made me not want to replay it. I regret I never played with Ada.
b-but muh inventory
This.
For a lot of people, this is one of the few games they've played that isn't a military shooter or a MOBA.
It has pretty much invented the modern 3rd person shooter.
Kill Switch did that.
Winback did that.
>If a game is good, it is overrated
>If a game is not good, it is shit
It came out in 2005 there was nothing like it and most games since still don't have the magic it does.
>It's a good game but it's also overrated.
It's a classic masterpiece, so no.
It revitalized the series, made it more accessible, was executed very well, innovated and influenced gaming in a significant way. It helped put horror back on the map.
It still do this day continues to have impact.
I agree with both of you, but RE4 had a way bigger impact on the genre since it was way more successful.
Unlike Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII, it actually has more than enough content and replayability to back all the hype around it up.
>made it more accessible
>its okay when re4 panders to casuals!
games can be good and not overrated, like Remake
>RE4
>Horror
pick literally one because these are opposites
doesnt surprise me at all that someone on Sup Forums doesnt know what overrated means
>classic masterpiece
like Rick and Morty?
Casuals still got their heads chopped off by the chainsaw guy. They throw a lot of shit at you when you just have a pistol
casuals still bought the game
>pandering to casuals
Literally fucking how. Are you trying to tell me that the original RE games are difficult at all?
to be rated over what it is
you have an user calling it a masterpiece when it's very flawed, aged terribly, and brought the worst the series had to offer while being a boring plot in a game that is mostly an action escort mission
people unironically call this game flawless. Im saying it's a good game, like a 7/10 it is by no means higher
Who cares if it's overrated, the game is fun as fuck to play
REmake is normal difficulty
RE4 is babby mode difficulty
holy shit im so upvoting this.
this post gets me
>made it more accessible
That's retarded.
Everything else you said is valid, though.
>>made it more accessible
>>its okay when re4 panders to casuals!
Making something more accessible isn't a negative. It's all about execution.
What's your argument for this? You weren't scared? Because if that's your argument then most horror games and movies aren't horror because I don't find them scary.
I wouldn't know, I stopped watching cartoons ages ago.
Agreed. I liked REmake far more.
Can you just shut the fuck up you retarded autist
What? What's your point?
>>made it more accessible
>That's retarded.
How was it not? It played and controlled better than the games prior.
RE4 also secretly adjust the difficulty of the game as you played. If it was too easy it would become more difficult (for example ammo for your favorite weapon became more scarce, enemies dealt more damage, become more aggressive, etc), but if you had a tough time and kept dying it would adjust it to make it easier.
>if you had a tough time and kept dying it would adjust it to make it easier.
how can anyone defend this?
>what's your arguement
that there is no tense moment in RE4 there is no element of horror . has nothing to do with "it wasn't scawy ;-;"
It portrays less understanding of horror than the RE movies which are just mindless action, which is fine, but fuck people who pretend it is remotely a horror game when it gives the play complete and total agency even on the hardest difficulty
>shotgun zombie heads or just avoiding the enemies all together
>then use all your Magnum/Grenade Launcher ammo on bosses
Wow, really hard. The hard thing about the game is not thinking about closing the game, because of the fucking unskippable door animations.
>how can anyone defend this?
Almost no one noticed the shift in difficulty when they played RE4.
If you only become mad when you become aware of it, is it really something to get upset over? This prevented worse players from getting frustrated and better ones from getting bored.
The fact that it did so organically in subtle ways is brilliant. Far better than shoving a "Maybe you should lower the difficulty?" text when you die a few times or not being able to increase the difficulty mid-game.
RE4 is a masterpiece of pacing and overall design, in hindsight it is absolutely a 10/10. I understand how people are annoyed that its not survival horror but it's a little ridiculous to get that upset about it when RE2 was the sequel that really started to focus on action over horror.
REmake is the pinnacle of survival horror, RE4 is the pinnacle of action, there is nothing wrong with them both being part of the same series.
>Almost no one noticed the shift in difficulty when they played RE4.
i noticed it, nearly everyone did. stop lying.
>i dont understand what makes Remake a good game
good job user
Its challenge is in enemy layout and mapping out your routes
but go ahead, prove me wrong, beat the game on hardest difficulty without saving killing every enemy you see.
>that there is no tense moment in RE4 there is no element of horror
Well both my sister and brother felt that it was tense and scary at parts.
I'm the wrong person to ask since it takes A LOT for horror to even phase me.
But it's still horror in the same way say Aliens is still horror.
Because nobody knew about it until years lateral you fucking idiot.
the quicktime events prevent it from being a masterpiece
>if you dont hit a button we tell you at this exact moment you die and have to restart the past 10 minutes
that's bad game design
>RE4 is a masterpiece of pacing and overall design
Take your fucking nostalgia goggles off. This is like saying Goldeneye was the pinnacle of FPS games or Banjo-Kazooie was the pinnacle of platformers. RE4's controls have aged poorly, the level design is only good for the first few areas, the bosses are mostly trash, and it helped to popularize QTEs and trash like Dead Space and Gears of War
>i noticed it, nearly everyone did. stop lying.
Maybe take your own advice.
do they have down syndrome? because that would be the only thing that explains that
as soon as you stop lying we can debate
this
The island area is fucking trash
Motherfucking celphone
>Take your fucking nostalgia goggles off.
Wow, games become dated? What an unheard of phenomenon.
You don't understand what made RE4 so influential. You don't understand how innovative and well executed it was.
It's like saying what the Wright brothers achieved wasn't impressive because we can now travel to outer space.
>dead space
>trash
user, when you say things like this no one will take you seriously. Your special snowflake opinions are not facts.
QTE's are a meme complaint, and they never put you back 10 minutes, it's a minute at the absolute most. The knife fight is the only place they even come close to being obnoxious.
It's not nostalgia, RE4 has better pacing than any action game I can think of. The controls are fine, people love to bitch that you can't move and aim but the game was designed with that limitation in mind. I don't even understand why you would think the bosses are trash so I can't refute it. It's absolutely retarded to evaluate a game's quality based on how the rest of the industry responded to it, it has nothing to do with how fun the game is and is actually a pretty solid indicator of how successful the original formula was.
>comparing a middle of the road video game for children to the invention of flight
you have to be 18 to post here kiddie
Minecart QTE
It's terrible
You literally cannot defend that
>gimp yourself and show much of an "Ultragamerxdd" you are
No thanks. I already played through it with Chris and Jill on "like climbing a mountain", which I think is Normal. It's has great atmosphere and gunplay, but the puzzles are lacking and like I said, the constant backtracking with the constant door animations make playing the game very tedious. I'll stick to Silent Hill 1 & 3, thank you.
>>comparing a middle of the road video game
So you're saying RE4 wasn't massively influential?
Sounds like you should take your own advice.
>so you're saying this meme game that barely affected the industry wasnt massively influential
yes i am
One of the games that defined its generation desu, I don't think it was overrated at all.
>DUDE THE GAME IS EASY!!!!@111!!!
>okay how about you try this is it's so easy
>LMAO IM NOT GOING TO MAKE THE GAME HARD
neck yourself normie
It's a good thread but it's also awful.
>that barely affected the industry
Ok. Well if you want to be disregarded as an ignorant child that badly I won't stop you. Have fun living in that bubble of yours.
kek re4fags getting blown the FUCK out
Yeah, whatever dude.
welcome to Sup Forums
>w-whatever dude ;-;
Is it really a good game though?
Look deep within yourself before you answer
Keep replying, I'm enjoying the (You)s.
that's because they can't defend the game without going "uhh if you dont get it then i wont bother discussing it with you" after you bring up a valid crtiism
The game isnt even bad, it's sort of like My Little Pony, it's not my thing, good on you if you love it so much, i can praise it for the animation and VAs who are talented
To all RE4fags
...
Yeah, I think so.
yes, but it's overrated.
see for what i mean
>he keeps going at it
The absolute madman
If you look at games that came out before and after of the same genre of TPS you will find they're closer to what we have today
Destroy all humans
Splinter cell
Battlefront
Ratchet & Clank
all of these more closely resemble what we see from modern third Person Shooters.
Dead Space is the only TPS that clearly takes after RE4 and it's better than RE4
how can one person be so assblasted?
>it's for teh (you)s
it's not user, you're just mad that he BTFO'd you
man you fucked up, i was on your side of the argument to.
Friendly reminder that RE4HD.com has the castle section done and you should download it.
In other news that room with the grail and the knights fucked me up seven ways until I managed to get through it.
someone is mad
Jesus user this was a slaughter
How will the RE4fags ever recover?
an excellent action/horror but a mediocre resident evil
>blaming a game for the shittyness of its successors
really?
>really
yes
It created RE6 directly
>you can't criticize an entry for ruining the series
yes you can
>>inb4 entire game goes downhill hard after the village
Wrong. The castle was great and the island was decent. There is nothing really shitty about either.
>>inb4 it ruined everything the epilogues of re3 set up
It continues Leon's epilogue. What are you talking about?
>>inb4 the story is absolute trash outside of what little we get in seperate ways
HAHAHAHAHA! Resident Evil (outside of 7) has literally NEVER been good. At least 4 doesn't take itself seriously, unlike the rest of the series.
>>inb4 there's only 2 difficulties
That sucks, agreed.
>>inb4 there's only 2 costumes
Technically 4, since Ashley changes outfits too.
>>inb4 escorts missions
The fact that people actually had problems with them is ridiculous to me. I mean, how bad can you be at vidya?
>>it has the worst iteration of mercenaries
Never cared about it, to be honest, so I don't know about that.
>>inb4 it ruined everything about ada and leon a
Agreed. Although, there wasn't really much to begin with.
>>inb4 leon's cheesy quotes were only funny two times in the entire game
Shit taste. Plain and simple.
>>inb4 it caused the rise bland "humor" based third person shooters in some way
>humor didn't exist before RE4
Dumbass.
>inb4 re5 and re6 are better action horror games-
Stopped reading there.
That's not Ocarina of Time.
Alright, seems like I fucked up. Does the hardest difficulty really change the whole game? Remake didn't really impress me on any level except atmosphere. I'm willing to give it another chance. With mods though, because there's no way in hell I'm going through these animations again.
the creators of RE6 created RE6 directly. That's like saying that one sport team was so great 20 years ago and now they're shit because they used to be great when the entire team is not even the same. Doesn't make sense.
Can we at least all agree that REmake has it beat in every conceivable way?
>Better pacing
>More replayability
>Better atmosphere
REmake is a game that any game developer should study because of well made it is.
>the island was decent
user lets not lie. it's a trainwreck of level design
>Sonic never had a good game
(you)
>actually sweetie it's 4 outfits
not really they're sets and nitpicking doesn't change the lack of outfit options when there should be more
>you're bad for not liking bad game design
Ashley is the worst RE character to date and escort missions have never been fun. The trash mechanic is the devs literally admitting that they fucked up because the only way to improve the game is to remove her from the equation
>not liking mercs
shit tier tast
>Liking leons garbage dialogue
shit taste. plain and simple.
>dumbass
so you dont dispute it? good because it's correct
>stopped reading right there
it well considering you couldnt even argue half the points, one could say you didnt read in the first place
>with mods
neck yourself it doesn't need mods
>throw a game in an action paced direction and remove horror
WOAH FUCKING AMAZING
>do it again twice
REEEE ITS SHIT
yes RE4 is to blame for RE5 and 6
>It's a good game but it's also overrated.
>It's a good game.
I fixed your broken statement.
that would be Stalker though with Autumn Aurora 2
yes, this is easy.
You have to think about taking out enemies in Remake and which routes to take
The shorter route is deadly usually but if you want to beat it in a certain time, you gotta take it. it's a 10/10 game
RE4 is a 7/10 at best
*Resident Evil stories (outside of 7) have literally NEVER been good.
I knew that my typo would cause a shitstorm somehow.
No, the teams that worked on Resident Evil no longer being involved with 5 and 6 are to blame for them being awful.
>Wanting objectively shit tank controls in 2k17
It was a good way to amp up spooks on the hardware the original Resident Evils existed on, but nowadays? No. There are better ways to do horror than forcing a clunky control scheme
