I'd unironically put Pokken on there, though. The neutral game in it is super fun and mindgamey and it's absurdly well balanced.

I got tired of getting bodied at Tekken whenever me and an old fried would play 5 at an arcade, so I picked up Tekken 3D prime on 3ds and put over 300 hours into learning characters moves and how to use them in various situations so when Tag 2 came out, I was getting about a 60% win rate on him.

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say it comes from a love of the old Hudson Soft quality. BR was a very competent game that for one reason or another never found it's way into the mainstream like Tekken or Street Fighter.

Part 4 was the culmination of the author's Jap pandering. No longer was he satisfied to have the main character be half Japanese with a major supporting character be Japanese, with both of them wearing their stupid school uniforms wherever they went, no it had to be set inside of Japan now as well for the entirety of the arc.
It also took everything a major step back from world saving adventures to "oh no da ebul cereal killa is loose in this bumfuck town in japan" Why am I supposed to care about anything that happens with stakes that low?

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!
If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

GGXrd is now my favorite fighter with the additions Rev1/2 added. KOF2k2 UM is still my favorite KOF because of Heidern. I think this list is agreeable. Its not my subjective top 20 but its full of good games.

Yes, it's extremely fast paced and a very concise fighting experience. It's like a happy medium between SF/KoF type games and more frenetic shit like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. The only problem I really have with it is how strict push blocking is.

Vega, Sim, Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Chun,Balrog, Dee Jay, and Fei Long are all more than viable and have multiple appearances at both Evo and Tougeki. Other characters can get along fine with adequate secondaries (Unless you're like cammy or some shit). Get absolutely fucked.
