In 2014, Marvel Games approached Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) wanting them to publish a Marvel game and to treat the game like a first party SIE title

Was Sony Really the Right Choice?
I understand Sony owns the film licence for Spider-Man, so I guess Marvel was more comfortable as opposed to Activision after so many years of mediocrity. But surely there are other studios more capable, right? Who could possible do this character justice other than Sony?
Valve, Microsoft or Nintendo are all better choices.
>Valve
>First Party Game Publisher
>Publisher of Games derived from Mods
You know which is the correct answer here.
>Valve
Hah.
Ubisoft would have done a great job with the franchise if Ancel or any of the French teams were working on it.
Ubisoft is just one step away from EAs level of fuckery and evil bro. What the fuck is wrong with you?
Let me clear, I'm not entirely opposed to Sony Spider-Man, I just dislike the idea of Marvel Games telling Sony "to treat the game like a first party SIE title." I don't care for the cinematic scope as I do game play. They need to nail the game play, or the visuals would've just gone to waste.
...
you're cute
>Valve
top fucking kek
>Microsoft
They can barely muster indie developers to their platform
>or Nintendo
nips don't care for Spider-Man, do they? Besides, Nintendo would give Mercury Steam the project and put it on the shitty 3DS.
>Was Sony Really the Right Choice?
Yes. Capeshit doesn't deserve good games, so it's only natural they get cinematic shit and spawn the cancer that is the "Batman combat system"
Isomniac is the perfect choice for a mediocre good-lookin' QTE riddled, cinematic-feelin' game. It's what the vast majority of the Spiderman audience wants.
For actual GOOD games we have japanese developers to appeal to our superior niche. The mainstream western market is perfect to sell millions of consoles and support these japanese companies so that they have a platform with a big enough audience to release their classics.
I feel like Insomniac is less driven by cinematics than other Sony-owned studios based on their portfolio. At least it's not a Naughty Dog game.
i liked spiderman:homecoming
and i'm going to have a ton of fun playing this and no one can stop me
At least Sony has three good ones under their belt. Nintendo and Platinum couldn't manage to make a good capeshit game to save their lives.
The PS4 exclusivity was obviously born out of Spider-Man coming to the MCU.
Sony owns movie Spider-Man, Disney owns everything else. After Activision's rights ran out, Sony would allow Disney to use the movie rights in their movies; but in return Sony got to publish an exclusive PS4 game.
>Ubisoft
>evil in 2017
Yeah, no. For Honor is fixed. Siege is Great Again. AC looks like it has interesting combat instead of the Bamham style. Mario and Rabbids is lovely in the trailers. There is no bad Ubisoft game in the pipeline.
No, Ubishit is still bad. "Rayman Legends" was decent, but no amount of Mario/Rabbids talk will ever change my mind on how shitty the company has been post 2005.
Name a bad Ubisoft game in 2017. Even Ghost Recon was enjoyable.
Siege is pretty good because Ubisoft has had a hands off approach
Hmm. I dunno. Spiderman 2 was pretty excellent. They even made a decent Hulk game shortly after that somewhat approached the gameplay similarly, in a go anywhere and do mini crime fighting quests all over the open world.
I still want Spider-Man by Platinum Games to be real before I die.
W101 is one of my favorite games. It does its thing better than anyone else by not taking itself overly seriously
Not only that it took them a year from launch to get the game anywhere near worth picking up, and it looks like it's going to be a year since that point (end of this year) to fix the myriad bugs and issues that the community is very very aware of, which are preventing the game from being highly competitive.
Game honestly looks pretty disappointing.
When I heard Insomniac was developing it I was expecting a notable improvement in movement, combat and just general mechanics; but from what we've seen it looks very boilerplate. The traversal, set pieces, stealth takedowns, press X to awesome combat, everything feels very by the numbers.
There was ONE thing that jumped out at me during the demo and that was when Spider-Man did a sharp turn he shot a horizontal web into the building and pulled himself around the corner, that is the kind of stuff I want. But sadly almost everything else feels very familiar.
Still a shit game though.
>8.6 is shit
If you can actually tell me what is wrong with W101 then you have some credibility.
that game is amazing, fuck you
It's always funny to see two retards argue with each other. You guys literally just see whatever you want and shut everything else out.
Yes, what could go wrong with the company that brought you such amazing titles as:
Knack
Knack 2
No man's sky
85% up time PlayStation Network
And sister company to the amazingly innovated studio that brought you:
Emoji movie
The interview
The Ghostbusters reboot
Yes guys, let's all put our trust in Sony, surely they are a paragon of engineering, design, and cultural excellence
>No man's sky
Sony didn't make no mans sky.
If it wasn't for Sony NMS would have gone under after the devs lost almost everything.
Valve doesn't make games anymore
Microsoft would cancel anything they were making
Nintendo doesn't play well with other brands
Nice save face.
Sony didn't make no mans sky.
Do you hear that...? That's the sound of no one giving a fuck.
Enjoy your reskinned Arkham Knight then
you forgot
gravity rush 1
gravity rush 2
bloodborn
freedom planet
sony picture is shit though
Freedom Planet was on Steam first, console debuted on Wii U and GalaxyTrail said FP2 is console first on Switch.
I know that, I'm not that guy who said they did I'm just saying Sony is responsible for it being sold, or even existing.
sorry i meant freedom wars
Sony is going to push Spiderman so hard, they're OBSESSED with him. Hell the fucking PS3 had Spiderman font
Cap this, Spiderman will surpass Gran Turismo 3 as the highest selling Playstation exclusive ever
I believe Spider-Man will hit Uncharted 4 numbers, but not GT: Sport.
>valve
>making video games
Is it 2009 again?
TW101 isn't capeshit, it's inspired by tokusatsu tv shows
I don't think GT Sport will be as big as past GT games. They've taken way too long
