rook has a higher piece value, but it depends on the game.

If I lose my rooks, I immediately surrender. Bishops are like better pawns.

depends on pawn structure

I've never had a good use for the tower ( is it really called the bishop?) besides cleaning for a checkmate.

srry, I don't ever get to play against anyone who's any good at chess.

>tower ( is it really called the bishop?
Rook

piece on the left is the bishop
piece on the right is the rook

rook is always better
>great usage defensively in more ways then one
>stops aggressive plays at midgame
>great at forcing relocation while still being safe
>great at securing kills late game
>stops pawn on a line

>the motherfucking castle move
everyone knows that snot nosed kid who cried the first time it was pulled on him only for you to prove the move was totally legal
rook is top tier nigga

They should add an op called Bishop to Siege

how do you get your rook out? I know you can switch pieces efore they move (with the bishop i think?)

otherwise, it gets trapped behind my pawns and i have to waste a couple turns getting it out

>A rook can land on any square on the board
>A bishop can only land on half of the squares
I think we know the clear winner here

>bishop only move on half the board
>rook can go anywhere

is this even a question?
better one would be knight vs. bishop
bishopfags eternally btfo

unless you have your opponent take a gambit early on that gives you like 2 spare turns and you see an opportunity to attack with it, the rook is only going to be a defensive piece at the start of the game that stops over aggression of the enemy just by resting in its starting position
to use a rook offensively you typically have to wait until the board is cleared a bit

>rooks in charge of not sitting in the corner for the entire game
Rooks are janitors, a game is won or lost on the merits and tactics of the early game, and the bishop is king of the early game.

Knight > Bishop although not really by a long shot.
Knights tend to fork trap often but then bishop can do that as well.

>early game
yeah thats right
bishops are those pasty wannabe psudo-chads that ejaculate prematurely
rooks are total studs that can last ALL GAME LONG

team rook here, bishop boys a pansy pussies!
>tfw vertical and horizontal movement masterrace

Found someone who doesn't even play

The rook protects whole files, he has the power to divide the board in "half's", meaning the king can't get past it; Hence why he has a higher price value.

A more fair comparison would be knight vs bishop, and most GM's today favor the bishop ( although it really depends on the game and especially pawn structure).
ALSO, WHO'S GOAT FOR Y'ALL??

Personally
2 bishops > 2 knights
1 knight > 1 bishop

bishop can checkmate faster than any other piece

WE WUZ BISHOPS AND SHIET

I always found tower (or whatever its english name is) more useful.

i generally only play with people who I have to either explain the rules to or they just attack everything at every opportunity.

I won a lot of these games just jamming the bishop into position for a check and then ending with a check mate from my queen.

so it's pretty common to use the rook to check mate at the end of the game... feels good

>beta rooks only get to move into the center after alpha bishops have taken full advantage of it with their high-level opening strategies
>rooks crying bitch tears as they insist that their sloppy seconds will ever come close to the ecstacy of clinching E5, the hem of your robe steeped in mingled pawn blood

>whites always start first

Racist much?

Developing your minor pieces and resulting open files. Mostly pay attention to what is in its file at midgame, and what is defending/attacking your pawn in front of said rook (also what the pawn itself is protecting/attacking).

Always mind the discovered attacks it can provide when you calculate.

It's to represent the whites ability to be awake before 11am

that incorrect. Most Gm's and high Elo players consider the light square bishop to be a lot better then knights and dark square bishop

>light square bishop better than dark square bishop

why tho

Probably early game configuration, and what piece he can attack/defend compared to a dark one.

knights are literally fucking useless

Is calling the castle the rook an american thing?

With the exception of when the game is really closed, 2 knights > 2 bishops.

I love seeing Bent Larsen's games to remind me how you can make 2 knights dance on the board in a closed game.

early and mid game light square bishop has a devistating attack (I forgot which square it was but look up the fried liver attack, that's should show you) although it dosent really matter what bishop you have late game

>no major updates for 1000 years
>last major update was 200 years ago
>top-tier play dominated by russians
>black always at a disadvantage
>castling still OP
don't know how anyone can play this shit desu

>implying castling wasn't added to stop boring and stagnant gameplay

Only if you're shit and get confused about using them.

it's f7, black's soft spot.

But it really depends on the opening, dark square bishops have a lot of positional value, like in london openings etc.

>tfw was in chess club in 1st and 2nd grade
>tfw only thing I know how to do is castle strategy

How do you improve on this game tho? What are your fantastic ideas?
Also, though it may not be traditional or seen in competitive matches, but most players nowadays mutually agree who makes the first move regardless of piece colour

Spotted the casual

>tfw I learned chess when I was 10 at school
>school didn't have a chess club due to lack of interest
>nobody in my family or extended family played chess
>played chess by myself to try to get better
>decades have passed and I can count my total human opponents on one hand
>still not very good at chess against actual players but dammit if I don't enjoy it anyway.

uhh...

Every piece in chess is equally perfect, it's why it's such a perfect game. If you think any piece is greater than any other piece then you don't understand the game.

play online you dumb idiot

okay pedro
lets play chess but all my pawns are queens and yours aren't
dumbass

I always imagine the queen being a generic jap magical girl with gigantic weapon at hand.

Someone post the one where the anime MILF queens is bullying the shota king

Brilliant. Lets change the game so you're right.

How's america this time of year, user?

seconding request

bishop can win the game in two turns if opp makes a very specific mistake, they aren't to be underestimated.

Russians haven't dominated in forever.

Wanna play, user? I'm not good, around 1400 at best, no need to sign in

Do people still play this? I really enjoyed it the last time I played and I've been wanting to play more.
