It's just that it was aimed at young children, while MH players are pretty much all adults. The marketing for this game was also not much on the cute side, it was just on the "cool" side, with the male MC and wacky with the Jibanyan clone. It wanted to hit like Yokai Watch did, but even Yokai Watch was not hitting that hard anymore when this came out. Japan has plenty of monster taming/battle games and this was kinda just yet another one.
