You don't, you buy all the merch related to said shmup and actually suck when playing it
well, they're actually easy compared to RTS or even.
Practice.
This isn't a Touhou thread.
But it could be. Why is PCB so good?
practice
There are a few good shoot em ups that are not hard
I just hate this genre
this game*
Just don't get hit user.
Who are you quoting?
Nice projecting, Touhou shitter.
>generalizing an entire genre's difficulty
also the skills required for RTS games and shmups are pretty different
>"Super duper hard boss"
>le random bullet curtain meme that goes as fast as lightning
I hate when this happens, at least zun makes pretty patterns... sometimes
Play a good shump not bullet hell garbage.
You fucking rhythm game secondaries need to kill yourselves.
Any pattern like that is meant to be bombed through, like It's a shit way of designing things but it really only exists in stuff like cave's true last bosses and it's more just a way to force you to save lives and bombs in the rest of the run
I hate this bombing exploit. There's no skill at all.
>make all bullets clear and bright, even missles
>remove diagonal speed advantage, lower pickup fall speed a bit to compensate
There, I fixed it
How the fuck is using a mechanic in the way that it's intended an "exploit"? You people are fucking idiots.
>osufags
>remove diagonal speed advantage
Garegga doesn't have normalized movement? I've never noticed.
I'd recommend playing Jamestown if you want to get into shmups.
It's probably one of the best gateway to the genre with progressing difficulties.
Nope. The Raiden series doesn't either.
Feels like total shit
Is this on anybody's radar? I'm thinking of getting it for the co-op to suck my brother into shmups
forgot image
Well, you can do that in the Rev 2106's premium mode, basically. The game is balanced imo, you just need to learn to predict the bullets direction and patterns.
You're supposed to DODGE the bullets you retard. As you can see on the webm, the player is bombing to cancel the bullets, so he's able avoid dodging the bullets.
He's not cheating, but he's doing something that wasn't intended by the devs.
>exploit
Didn't some nolifers found a way to nmnb that shit?
>Well, you can do that in the Rev 2106's premium mode, basically.
Elaborate.
Both things?
I haven't played it
The premium mode allows you to change many aspects and features of the original game.
You can turn it into the easiest shmup ever by enabling autobomb and turning the rank off or you can turn it into a bullet hell shmup by playing on the highest rank possible with auto metal-collecting enabled.
>just die and retry until you memorize the pattern at the right pixel lmao
where's the fun in shmups?
So that's how it works.
it's fun to overcome overwhelming adversary, and while memorization plays into becoming better you still need to focus and have fast reflexes to survive
what are some non-2hu shmups with good story and music?
preferrably vertical
Just remembered that I STILL haven't 1CC'ed DaiOuJou. I must have been playing that shit for over a decade. I suck.
>good story
uh... radiant silvergun? story is rarely a priority in these types of games
dodonpachi daioujou
play black label, it's better
>doj
>good story
??
An entire shmup is like 20 minutes long, theyre designed to be played over and over
Yeah? This genre is pretty light on story but doj's backstory and the atmosphere and music that goes with it is top notch
Crimzon Clover is such a beautiful game, great way to get into the genre.
Crimzon Clover
I want to play a fucking rythm game but osu is gay what do I do?
>good story
>Shumps
You're up shit creek user. Hell there's few with a actual story to speak of.
pick up a bemani game
Download an emulator and play Project Diva
fpbp
play hackers beat
thanks
the rhythm heaven series is great
pop'n music, rhythm heaven, lunatic rave 2, IIDX, BMS, DDR or even mobageshit like idolmaster, groove coaster and DSA
i wish shmups didn't start being obsessed with lolis.
keep that in touhou .
also does anyone else feel that autobomb as a mechanic was a mistake?
If you have a 3DS get theatrhythm curtain call.
It's pretty cool and it's got a lot of great tunes.
>wanted to dodge bullets.
>realized dashing and absorbing bullets for high risk defense and building supers is more enjoyable.
Thus i because and Suguri and Sora junkie.
shit forgot to quote
>play a shmup
>it's filled with bullet cancels, and designed around bomb spamming
Fuck that shit. Shmups are at best when they're about pure dodging.
Am I the only one who finds CAVE games extremely unfun?
yeah
nigga you gay
youtube.com
WHY IS THIS ALLOWED?
>he's doing something that wasn't intended by the devs.
Oh, so you are a fucking retard. Bombs are intended for skipping patterns or avoiding bullets in basically every fucking bullet hell and shmup. Hell, TLBs in CAVE games are practically made with bombing in mind as they'd be next to impossible otherwise.
That's a popular contrarian memelord opinion
>also does anyone else feel that autobomb as a mechanic was a mistake?
i dont really see the point. its not so bad when it uses up all of your bombstock. but really casuals arent gonna play shmups just because they have 9 lives now
cave owns, bitch
You need to have legit autism to enjoy them since it's all pattern memorization. You'd have the same experience playing one of these while blasting obnoxious j-rock and flicking the lights on and off.
>what is scoring
>it's all pattern memorization
people who say this shit have no idea how single-player video games work in general, much less shmups
>t. I suck at video games.
Crimzon Clover
>having to save bombs for a final boss
I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable. Literally the literal definition of artificial difficulty. Something like Dark Souls on SL1 in NG+7 with fists only is tough, but it's fair because it's actually possible to be done. If it isn't possible, what's the point. Game isn't respecting your time at that point.
By that knowledge, you need legit autism to enjoy CSGO and Quake.
>I'll just bomb this pattern and skip it instead of learn how to properly dodge it
dude that's not how shmups work, even against TLBs or any high difficult situation. You're playing a bullet hell to DODGE bullets.
Like this
As someone who isn't great at shmups I can offer you a few tips OP.
Don't be afraid to use continues your first few times playing. Play through the whole game on normal (or lower if you're having too much trouble) and just see what the game has to throw at you. Go through like this once or twice, just to get an idea of what the game's surprises are.
Learn how to maximize your score. Not only will this give you a good metric to judge your performance by, but extra lives are in order to. Also, some games offer 1-UPs under certain circumstances (destroy all of a bosses arms or whatever before destroying them) look up a guide or playthrough online.
USE YOUR GODDAMN BOMBS. It's hard to bring yourself to do it sometimes, you don't want to rely on them too much to get through a boss fight, but it's better to use a bomb, than lose it upon death.
Learn about the games different bullet types. In a lot of shmups there are static shots and aimed shots. Static shots will always be fired in the same manner each time, regardless of your position. Aimed shots will be fired directly at you. A good strategy is to move a little bit at a time, left or right, to dodge aimed shots. Try not to go right to the edge of the screen, as you can get squeezed out by aimed shots + static, give yourself a little breathing room.
Other than that, all I can tell you is keep trying man. After your initial run through the game, just keep seeing how far you can get on 1 credit. Some games are easy and can be cleared in under 10 hours. Some are hard as fuck, and will take you hundreds. I've played Raiden IV Overdrive on Arcade for close to 30 hours, and can only get as far as the 4th stage on normal. The fun is in seeing how far you get though. I'm not a huge shmup guy myself, but there's nothing quite like a couple runs in Mushihimesama to get the blood pumping.
(you)
That is true though
What are some good, casual co-op shmups? I remember I used to play this one Shmup with my dad all the time in arcades, and it was pretty fun.
>dude that's not how shmups work
If that's the case, why did the devs implanted bombs in the first place?
what is this vertical darius
Accessibility.
Many shmups turn bombs into a scoring tool if you opt to not use them for survival.
This really isn't that hard to understand
This looks easier than Patchouli.
If you're trying to 1cc any shmup for the first time, you will eventually use them for survival purposes. But you're supposed to memorize and learn how to dodge the patterns, because that's the fun part of any shmup.
YES/NO
>the bullets around you move when you move
I think I would become ill playing this game because of that
Meant for
>but he's doing something that wasn't intended by the devs.
That boss is fully intended to be bombed through, the pattern is designed to be as bullshit as possible so you can't dodge it consistently even for the best players. A lot of Cave TLBs are like that but not all of them.
If it wasn't intentional, why would the company behind the game release a video of a player beating it that way?
youtu.be
This is what I do. Only I don't like Touhou.
Both your and the bullet hitboxes are smaller than the sprite, getting hit is actually harder than you think
Play something better, like Gradius or R-Type.
>shmups with good story
Read a book nigger.
>horizontals
>games with lives but once you die once your run is fucked anyways
Yeah, horizontals are the best.
This. OP should play some r type delta.
>What is Gradius V
Might get it if it's cheap. However there has been a nasty habit lately of Japanese Steam releases being ridiculously overpriced.
>exploit
reading is for nerds and old people
...
Don't even put those two in the same sentence.
>since it's all pattern memorization
Random patterns are a thing.
That looks pretty awesome, what game?
Local vs mode or is it just against AI?
