Ever since Sim City let you become a citizen in your own town everyone wants the option to get a street level view of the cool city they made.

I really wish I knew how. Would love to see the progress of the game and coming up with beautiful sprites that make the world come alive.

Just learn it. It will take years but it will be the most fulfilling thing you will do in your entire life.

Yeah but sprites done well looks amazing in their own very special way. I didn't get it cause the gameplay didn't look like the type I would enjoy but Owl Boy(?) looked fantastic.

3D games always seem to sacrifice detail just for being 3D. I thought by now graphics cards would be powerful enough to render this stuff even in 3D but it hasn't happened yet.

Can you show me where to learn? I would honestly put in the effort. I love creating things in my head would be really cool to translate them to something everyone can see.

For video game programming either learn C# or C++, there are tons of books and tutorials for them on the internet. Just stick with one language. After you learned programming you can easily switch languages.

That was the biggest disappointment of Anno 2070 - promised underwater cities but you can't build any houses there, only factories.

No one has the creative levels to design buildings that are really unique to an underwater setting. It's always just relatively normal buildings you can find on the surface.

That disappointed the fuck out of me.

Are there any good modern games at all?

As in what would I do with one? Soon as I read that 3 things popped into my head. An Alantian setting with archways and Greek inspirations and giant statues. A steam punk city with an architectural theme around those old timey diving suits built around a trade economy with the above world where you see subs bringing new matriel and things down there. And finally an Ayn Randian city built with brutilsm architect as an inspiration with a bioshock feel to it.

I've actually been putting a lot of thought into this for a while. I have some neat, original ideas that I've drawn but unfortunately I lack the talent and autism to design an entire game myself.

settlers 2 is a classic and even had a modern remake, not sure about the later ones in the series

i wish they made more games like this for i cannot play zeus and cleopatra properly because i think emperor is way better for trading and storing items

I don't know, maybe it's the nostalgia speaking but Anno 1602 is the superior one because of the setting. It's the perfect setting for colonization island game. 1404 is a joke, 1702 is 2advanced. 1602 hits the sweetspot. Shame that the combat was a bit dumb and that it cant be run on new systems

Maybe it's unrelated to the thread but does anyone remember the cool concept of building a village from Black and White 1. The scaffolding stuff was so unique, it was refreshing.

didn't 3 and later remove the need for roads? i always had fun optimising pathing for my people, removing that would take out a lot of the fun of designing a city for me

There is Hearthlands on steam but last time I checked it had horrible art and a single atrocious looping music track that made me quit the game in 10 minutes

No one got anything. People dropped tons of money to have what would have been Godus' version of the Black and White creatures modeled after whatever animal they wished and tons of other in-game goodies that were just never delivered. So as bad as that kid got jilted, the backers got jilted harder.
Actually going back to the cube thing, I am pretty sure that the cube had microtransactions so you could break blocks faster, so all the people who dropped money on it to get it to the center faster, and didn't win, and then the center was a prize that NO ONE got... that's just sad. They couldn't even keep the kid updated with an email on the game's progress (because it wasn't making any).
