>Oh look it's this meme again
Day one buyer of RE4 here, regenarators were never that spooky
nah mate, cloaking regenerators on the other hand...
also fuck those invisible things in stalker
They were if you were 10
>nobody around
>look in a mirror cabinet for items
>close it
>reflection shows a lanky crackhead standing right behind you
The bear was nothing compared to that
I never found the heat googles.
Just imagine how much I suffered. Just THINK about it.
the spider basement corridor in REmake scared the piss out of me when I first played it
Why, my peanus weenus ofcourse!
The part in Penumbra 2 when a guy you can't see is talking to you from behind a door, demanding that you give him something for his own protection. You find a saw and slip it through a slot in the wall, and then you hear the guy sawing something.
He bursts out of the room, having sawed half of his own head off, and comes for you. You are trapped with him in the dark.
>Shoot legs
>Stab with knife 57 times
>gg no re
I also never found the heat vision scope.
still makes me anxious
How the fuck can you not find the infrared scope?
>Shoot legs
>Not stabbing them
...
>shot it till it dies
its like you never played doom
There have been a few atmospherically scary moments, like first time playing Fallout 1
>yeah yeah yeah water chip
>entirely black map, only Vault 15 marked
>start walking the wrong way just to see what's there
>mountains change into vast, barren desert
>get an encounter where character can't find water
>only sound is the desert wind
>keep walking in the scorching sun
>red flash, you have encountered: Super Mutant Patrol
>endless desert map, wind still blowing, menacing background music is playing when the game waits for me to make my move, there's nowhere to run and the mutants outnumber you 3 to 1
>well, shit
>fire 10mm pistol, mutant was hit for 7 points
>mutant fires minigun, hit for 125 and character's ribcage flies out as the subtle menacing music and desert wind still blow
>game over screen tells me something along the lines of nobody ever finding my bones in the desert and my vault being doomed
>mfw
Actual horror games and their shock value haven't really been that scary to me, probably because they are predictable, but something like this hits pretty hard.
that FUCKING raptor
When I saw ur face LOL
XDD
Yeah, that's a different kind of horror. Classic games that weren't afraid of putting you against unbeatable enemies if you went into zones that you weren't prepared for yet created a pretty eerie feeling of not being sure of your next step.
Now I'm a believer
Day 1 buyer here they were pretty spooky when i was 15.
One of my favourite bits of the game. I always trigger that mirror jump scare.
That and the way the mannequins turn to look at you with your back turned.
Yeah, and everything else about it too, walking into that desert alone out of curiosity, getting the "no water" encounter and then in the middle of the empty sandbowl you get intercepted by the mutant patrol and you're all alone and realize you're definitely fucked
And this is the background music when you have that one turn that isn't going to save you no matter what youtube.com
The game over screen just completes the whole experience
The Hotel Basement in The Last of Us still gets me nervous when I replay that game. It's specially scary if you play with surround sound.
Diablo 1 scared me for a while until i realized how silly the sound effects of enemies were in hell , only the music was spooky
the real scary game actually that made me really uneasy and even sick was resident evil 3 ,especially the Nemesis encounters , it was just so fuckin atmospheric like you have no chance to beat him you got a crappy pistol and he is putting his arm tentacle down your throat
also i was 10 at the time lol
Knowing you were fucked no matter what in the first two Fallouts is a lot more distressing than in the newer titles. Sure, in in those you're being overwhelmed by bullets or melee attacks, and that can get really stressful. But when you have a turn you know is going to result in your death, whether you run or shoot, now, that's a different sense of desperation.
Playing this when I was 8.
this moment at the police station holy shit...i wasnt ready lol , you check the window nothing can be seen outside , you take a few steps CRASH he blasts through the window like a boss
youtube.com
I still have nightmares.
The regenerator and it's first few encounters were so beautifully put together.
Also timed pretty damn well with how most players would be fairly dry on ammo from such a hectic chapter intro.
i was 9 when i played that game and i found him goofy as shit , his sound effects were cool though :D
the first third of RE4 was pretty scary because you didn't have god tier weapons and you didn't know wtf was going on... it also had pretty good environmental design.. the castle and the military island were dogshit though
The story and the villains were really dumbshit over the top tier in 4 , the first 3 RE games were amazing at least...good times
Condemned...second to last level, when the door to the cellar unlocks.
>I don't wanna go down there
i never played the first 3, but 4 would have been better if it had stayed low key instead of going full autism with the pseudo science.. i get that RE is meant to be a CUHRAYZEE franchise but it hurt the game significantly in the end
>Most scared you've ever been in a game?
I was very young playing DOOM 2 past midnight. I sat there for a long time mustering the courage to try the first level again.
Finally I started it, and right when I met the first monster, a power outage cut out all the lights in my house. I ran the fuck across the room, cut my leg open on furniture, and flung myself into bed remaining cocooned in blankets until I fell asleep a few hours later.
I still have the 'DOOM 2 scar' on my knee. Plus the metaphorical one imprinted on my psyche.
God I can't stop laughing at this
So sorry, but this is the most pussy shit I've ever read
You can't even do that, it flops like a fucking fish and eats your face. And I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not find the infared. Its in a small room and it even shows you in a small cutscene while you're in the same small room (which you have to go to)
pussy
>i never played the first 3
>i get that RE is meant to be a CUHRAYZEE
You're wrong play the first game like right now.

They were already freaky looking, but the weird sounds it made gave me the fucking heebies. Sounds like a angry German taking a shit.
...
4th floor of Alchemilla Hospital. That absolute oppressive music build up and visuals of the decaying building.
Theese guys.
>Pretending to be scared of re4
>Pretending you didn't speedrun the game after the castle segment
...
>oh it's this hallway again
>WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUCK
...
...
you absolutely can get through the area without finding the infrared scope.
i did this when i was real young, and i had no idea how i was supposed to be fighting the fucking things because it took so many shots to kill them. as i recall, you don't actually have to go into the room where the infrared is, or if you do there's no clue that it's in that dumpster or whatever. i got passed that and actually killed the first regenerator on a fluke, but one of my friends told me about the scope. after you're supposed to find it, however, you go down a chute and can't go back; i didn't have a save back before this, so i couldn't just reload and had to start the whole fucking game over again. ultimately this was a valuable lesson for me in gaming: i learned to check EVERYTHING, all the time, because who knows how important some item might be.
I always thought those things were funny looking but they do lunge at you intimidatingly fast
ironically handgun is the best weapon against him in the game my man
especially the second handgun you make from part kits
Just beat Arx Fatalis yesterday, great game
During this section it took me a very long time to realize how to defeat this guy. I thought you were supposed to craft the ultimate weapon while the beast chased you. Extremely stressful til I figured it out.
I enjoyed that they put a miniature one in the final fortress just to scare you when you heard it.
playing Silent Hill 1
I couldn't get past the school because I had a constant sick feeling while playing.
>nope.png
That one room in Ico where you're away from Yorda and she yelps, the camera zooms in, and the anxiety music creeps up and you have to book it before she gets kidnapped and you die. Also the bridge and everything past it is pretty dang scary. And I played the game first just last year.
Bug in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
I was a kid, had nightmares for weeks. It came out of nowhere.
>A sudden angry screech and the sound of heavy, thudding, sprinting foot steps.
I nearly shit myself seeing this for the first time youtube.com
They SEE you... Run, RUUUN!
Nothing in System Shock 2 was scary. More annoying than scary thanks to the sound effects. Great game though.
Regenerators weren't even spooky though.
REmake absolutely terrified me as a kid though, just going into a room and not knowing what you'll find in it, on top of how limited your resources were.
I later rented RE2 on the N66 & Code: Veronica X for PS2, then later got the Gamecube versions of 2, 3 & C:VX, but they didn't bother me nearly as much because of the graphics being so lame compared to REmake.
Zero wasn't scary at all.
Heartbeat OST
Revving intensifies
Still too scared to go back and try beating this game.
>Playing System Shock 2 with great headphones and moderately high volumes
>Protocol robots
>Midwives
It's not scary, but rather unnerving.
...
This bit of P.T. I still haven't finished it.
i dont remember ever using that gun , i only used grenade launcher once i got my hands on it ,occasionally the magnum
but it's just a toothpaste commercial
...
Best strategy to use for Nemesis is just running and gunning; he's left-handed, so blasting him with a shotgun then running past his right side so he can't punch or grab you is ideal. If you're patient, it's very possible to knife him to death without taking damage.
Only takes 80 slashes each time.
>She can jump you in the pause screen.
That is some incredible fucking bullshit, Kojima, but I applaud it.
I love these encounters in video games
>locked room
>new enemy with unknown gimmick
>can't leave unless you kill them
Makes me feel excited.
Holy fuck that took a long time to find

It isn't. You can get the key to proceed to the waste disposal room without turning the freezer off and awakening the Regenerator hanging there. As a matter of fact, every time I play RE4 I purposefully avoid getting it to save time and challenge myself further.
t. have beaten RE4 over 30 times.
Seriously? Never happened to me
are you serious? this hasn't happened to me in the time i played when it first came out
I don't fucking trust this
i found it but didn't bought the semi auto sniper rifle
so i had to shoot all over their body with the TMP
worked fine
ammo was a bit scarce after that though
it fits the normal rifle
That's quite a schlong
FLESHPOUND
WASDSAWSDASDAWD
And then in HL2 when the teleporter drops you in the water right in front of one of these cunts
fuck ,you should have tell me that 10 years ago
First time a game actually made me scream.
That first zombie reveal in Resident Evil 1 fucked me up as a kid.
It's the music that does it. It hits you like a fucking brick.
let's all go out for some frosty chocolate milkshakes
All of Silent Hill 3
I never bought a sniper on my first playthrough. They were scary as shit. Took a lot of ammo and granafes to kill.
I was disappointed on later through actually. I think the infrared scope was actually a huge mistake.
...
Sure!
Nearly everything in Fatal Frame games.
Or any time Alma appeared in F.E.A.R 1 and 2
>rare image of hiroshima survivor mere moments after it happened.jpg
>ITT: Bunch of fucking pussies
You are like a little baby.
Watch this.
