Modern Single Player Sucks Balls

>The Last of Us
>Horizon Zero Dawn
>Tomb Raider 2013
>Any game with "DEEP STORY" text strapped all over the cover
Because those games are pretty much stripped from gameplay (and parts of gameplay itself are mediocre) why would I put 50$ to play this "game" instead of launching some let's play with no commentary in youtube? What those fuckers were thinking?!

>EY GUYZ WE MADE TEH GAME! IT'Z VERY DEEP!
>*boss came in*
>ok guys where's the gameplay?
>OH SHIT NIGGA
>*grabs duct tape*
>*straps some random RPG elements, some stealth sections and cover based shooting randomly*
>THER YA GO BOSS

>Playing post-2006 Western games

There is your problem.

Play Breath of the Wild.

>>The Last of Us
>>Horizon Zero Dawn
>>Tomb Raider 2013
I had fun with all these games.

LOL r u gay dude?!?!

There are a lot more games out there than the best selling AAA shit unless you're a consolefag. This thread is the equivalent of listening to the radio and saying modern music is shit

Master Chief Balleater is displeased by your bullshit.

>Modern Single Player Sucks Balls

just like ur mom xd

Nioh is my GOTY atm.

The problem is not that these games focus on the story. I'd happily take a game with shit gameplay as long as the story is really good.

The problem is, video game developers are not writers. Hell, most writers are shit, even. I can't think of a single game with a really good, well-done storyline. It's all stereotypical 'overcome odds and win', grimdark pseudo-psychological shit with no depth, or satire shit.

I don't really know if it's the medium that's bad for storytelling, but as a whole, stories in videogames tend to blow ass.

I'm actually mostly talking about western AAA industry where this shit spread like a cancer. I'm not asking them to be innovative (but that would be nice) but FFS don't shove into game random elements like stealth and RPG elements. It's like putting skittles over mashed potatoes with gravy. In diffrent circumstances those are nice but putted together it doesn't work.

>playing exclusively on ps4
there's your problem

>video game developers are not writers

Devs dont write the story

>play western games
>complain about single player

Are you retarded? Get on persona 5/BotW/nier automata pronto. While you're at it, preorder Mario odyssey, xenoblade 2, and samus returns

...

Imagine being this miserable

I hope you grow up one day

>I can't think of a single game with a really good, well-done storyline

Alan Wake maybe?

>Growing up means losing all sense of taste and being happy with the lowest common denominator stuff out there

No shit you dumb fag

>for the past 8 years
>I have no observation skills

Go away.

These are literally all the singleplayers that have come out. What happened guys?

Im sorry you don't find video games fun anymore. Tell us whats really wrong op. Tell us where the saddness and anger come from.

so what are some good single player games?

tlou is a great game. remove your head from your ass and appreciate the gaem for what it is
t. favorite game is Doom 2

The Walking Dead Season 1 maybe?

I watched tlou as whole on youtube - I lost nothing, LITERALLY nothing from experience. Justify tlou as game.

The cinematic games, sure. But I more or less only play single player games nowadays. There's too many noobs in multiplayer games which makes it really boring to play

Anything that focus on your skill/micro/macro management/decision making/process thought usage. I'll take Deus Ex, Quake, Dawn of War 1, Fallout 1/2, The Banner Saga, Besiege, ANYTHING revolving around your decision making instead of this mutated garbage they call games nowadays.

My problem with western AAA devs is that most of them have to follow a checklist, probably forced on them by the publishers. A bunch of suits who don't know shit about video games who only care about lazily copying the latest trends.

>third person cover-based shooting with regenerating health
>tacked-on crafting system
>simplistic parkour system
>"open world"
>TOTALLY NOT A CUTSCENE YOU GUYS walking sections
>characters constantly talking over gameplay, usually involving exposition dumps or telling the player exactly where to go
>etc

You see so many of the same features in so many games that it just gets tedious. You play one you play them all. They lack a real identity.

I knew beforehand what happens, but at the beginning of The Last of Us I literally felt like I was tasked with protecting Sarah. Some of the most intense and dramatic gaming I've seen in a while.

But I want a game with AAA budget and graphics that has actual difficulty. Indieshit is boring,

Binding of Isaac is better than neo nintendo zelda

Well... most of promoted modern music IS actually shit with bassboosted crap and earpiercing sopranos (at the same time) while lacking any diversity in music itself.

...Yeah - you might be right with this one user

stop playing shit games made for retards who don't even play video games

I know you faggots love to blame The Last of Us for this, but it was FF7 that started this trend or at least inspired the current generation of devs to go down this story heavy road.

...

It you think those "games" are games then you're out of mind. I want GAMES - not interactive movies hidden behind "game". At least call it "interactive movie" or some sort like it was marketed with Late Shift (which is actually pretty good as one). Do not attach unnecessary shit over so-called "game" because it's trend. If you want to make good linear story, there are other ways to show it.

everybody's Golf is pretty fun

Play styx

Aka nes games
Me too

Breath of the Wild too.
