They're successful because they're cheap OELVNs compared to a lot of the japanese VNs on Steam which cost the same as most AAA titles.

Objectively wrong. Telltale games are point-n-click games. Even if the puzzle solving is mostly effortless, there's still puzzles to solve.

The choices in VNs are often puzzles in their own way, as failing and picking dumb shit can lead to dead ends with a significant delay.

The Sakura games can be played in pretty much any order and some of them have references to each other. Sakura Dungeon is pretty much the best the series has to offer though.

Sakura dungeon is genuinely fun. Make sure you play on the hardest difficulty and install the rebalance difficulty patch though.

Since the average is at $7 now, I'd only suggest you go for the $1 tier if you were curious about trying the Sakura games, or the $10 tier if you want to play Sakura Dungeon. Remember even if you hate Winged Cloud and everything they stand for you can always just donate all the money to charity instead.
