Wood Zone
I know its a fan hack but its still so bad...like the romhacker had never played sonic before or something.
what?
why?
I love this zone.
Stardust speedway
That's my favorite zone in the entire series.
Sandopolis (Act 2)
...
I don't actually believe you hate this zone, either in Mania or Sonic 2, for any reason other than it's become a meme.
Sonic Mania's was easy as fuck, but Sonic 2's literally made me hate the living shit out of this zone.
metallic madness
What's wrong with this zone?
>a fan-made level is inferior in quality to an official level
and bears shit in the woods
It's seriously fucking shit. And not because it makes you loop either, it's just a fucking slog.
I fucking hate this zone.
Looks like shit, music is shit, and plays like shit.
>wood zone
nice >:]
Hydrocity Zone kicks ass. Great theming & music, and a decent mix of "going fast" and methodical platforming sections.
This was always my least favorite level in S3&K. Not sure why. Maybe it's those floating tops that you have to control and just feel bad to use.
...
>nobody posted this yet
I'm ashamed in all of you.
It's more tolerable in Mania, but I'm still not big on the smog in Act 2 even if it is clever. I actually wish they had mixed it up a bit more and made it a cross between Oil Ocean and Launch Base Zone.
Yeah. Mania made the zone playable. It's utter garbage in the original game.
It has a good flow, octopus badniks are specifically placed so you can't get lost, seahorse badniks are only an issue if you're not paying attention, the only bad part is the amount of time spent in the air blower gimmicks, but even that is nothing compared to other "stop-and-go" moments in the game, let alone the classics as a whole. Oil Ocean is literally just a meme.
>20 years later and I'm still dying in Chemical Plant Zone
How did my life turn out like this?
>DUDE WHAT IF WE JUST ABANDONED ALL OUR GOOD IDEAS TO MAKE A SHITTY PLATFORMER INSTEAD
Love too go slow in a game about a fast hedgehog
Fuck this overrated overused ugly ass zone.
We all know the worst zones from each respective game, and it's pretty much universally accepted.
Sonic 1
Marble Zone
Sonic 2
Wing Fortress Zone
Sonic 3
Marble Garden Zone
Sonic & Knuckles
Sandopolis Zone
Sonic CD
Wacky Workbench
As for Sonic Mania the worst zones are pretty easy to identify.
I'm not calling any of these zones bad. There's no bad zones in Mania, just some weaker than others.
Titantic Monarch Zone (weakest in the game easily) I would have taken a remixed Launch Base Zone over this.
Flying Battery Zone
Egg Reverie Zone
I cannot enjoy anything Sonic 1 related.
Metropolis is the worst in 2 and Carnival Night is the worst in 3.
>Marble Zone
>Not Labrynith
>like the romhacker had never played sonic before or something
literall every CD level
Ice Cap was worse than Hydrocity
Hydrocity is by far the worst level in Mania because they managed to make it more linear than the original, added in boring bubble gimmick that just wasted your time, and both bosses were rehashes.
As a kid
They fucked up Hydrocity in Mania
I dare you to name a worst zone. I'll wait.
Both of those are a close second for the worst in the respective games.
I'll admit they both suck. I'm not going to say that Metropolis is worse than Wing Fortress, or that Carnival Night is worse than Marble Garden. Because they aren't.
Once you know how to deal with the barrel, Carnival night isn't too bad. Marble Garden is just awful though. Bad bosses, lame gimmicks which stop you in your tracks constantly, and those spinning tops. Jesus man, it's way worse than a Casino night rehash.
Close second.
Eh, it's the worst in the sense that it's a rehash, but Hydrocity is the only good water zone in the entire 2D sonic library. It's a shame they didn't do very much new, but Hydrocity didn't really need fixing.
it's the worst in Mania (and it's not even that bad there), but it's a great zone in S3&K
OOZ doesn't deserve as much hate as it gets in S2.
in contrast, Metropolis deserves all the fucking hate it gets
10/10 music though.
you can skip the rising water+blocks bit with a spindash jump off the curves right before the door, assuming that's the bit that kills you
Flying Battery Mania shouldn't be on the list, and I think Hydrocity is a lot weaker overall than Titanic Monarch.
otherwise, pretty good
...
I can get behind that, but Mirage Saloon sucks too much dick for me to agree fully.
hydrocity act 1 in mania sucks. those slow and tedious bubble and gondola sections.
The boats go faster the closer you are to the edge.
>Sonic
Marble
>Sonic 2
Oil Ocean
>Sonic 3
Carnival Night
>Sonic & Knuckles
Sandopolis
>Sonic CD
Wacky Workbench
I don't like Mania Flying Battery.
The introduction of elements from the worst Sonic Zone in 2, along with two completely garbage bosses. It's worse than the original, same as Hydrocity. But Hydrocity has always been better than Flying Battery, and still is, even with some weak new mechanics.
The only new good mechanic in Flying battery was the lightning shield, and that was barely even implemented. Outdoor sections were lame, the trash aspect was weak and added nothing, and the other stuff is taken from wacky workbench, the worst zone from CD. I genuinely think it's one of the worst zones in the game.
Played through Sonic 1 and 2 recently.
Good taste on the worst zones user.
Flying Battery Mania takes shit from worse zones and makes them better. The outdoor segments are lifted right from Wing Fortress, but not fucking retarded anymore (a good 60% of my issue with Wing Fortress is the tendency of the launchers to just fling you into the void and for whatever reason, you don't make it to the other side)
trash aspect was a bit weak, but that's pure fluff
there's barely anything from Wacky Workbench (and that outside section in FBZ with the electric field is entirely skippable), and that stage is weak in CD entirely because the bounce gimmick does nothing but waste gobs of your time and make finding the machine a pain in the ass, it's otherwise a straightforward platforming stage
kind of seems more like you hate the idea of those zones getting represented in any way really
the bosses do suck for sure though
spider boss would be fine with two changes (ground doesn't stop him from moving so much if at all, better visibility of when the boss bumper is collideable), but there's no fixing the trash compactor boss without some big changes, it's just a lame fight
Marble is a drastically better zone than Labyrinth, which would be a bad fucking stage even without the water risk.
>lol spikes everywhere
Flying Battery Zone , just fucking hate all about that level
t. Mark
>Flying Battery Mania takes shit from worse zones and makes them better.
It makes them serviceable at best. The wind mechanics were new, and they were pretty poor. The outdoor sections whilst not as bad as Wing Fortress, are not particularly exciting, especially with those stupid fans, the wind mechanics that make precision platforming impossible, and the electric field, which accounts for a lot of the stage. My issue is with act 2. Act 1 is fine except for the boss. The problem is, because of the outdoor sections and indoor sections being separate, you immediately notice the quality difference.
>and that stage is weak in CD entirely because the bounce gimmick does nothing but waste gobs of your time and make finding the machine a pain in the ass, it's otherwise a straightforward platforming stage
Chemical Plant made the bounce gimmick good. I do not have a problem with that. I have an issue with the implementation in Flying Battery.
Wacky Workbench is the worst Zone in CD due to the sum of its parts. The electric fences suck, the bouncing sucks, the platforms make the problems even worse.
I'm not saying Flying Battery in Mania is bad, but I am saying it's easily one of the weakest zones.
Hydrocity is satan
I don't know why but im pretty disappointed with Sonic Mania, it felt more Sonic CD than Sonic 2 and 3. Every fucking lvl pretty much is a machine level to when older Sonic games did so well with nature themed or ruin themed.
honest question why do people hate this zone so much? it was always one of my favorites from Knuckles & Knuckles but that might be because it's right after Sandopolis which IS the worst zone. Also it was the earliest you can unlock Hyper Sonic if you beat all the special stages in 1 go.
I think it's just bad taste. Lava Reef is my favourite zone in S&K. It has the best act transition in the entirety of S3&K as well. Act 1 and 2 feel like different zones in a lot of ways, but the carryover of a lot of the mechanics are just- damn son, it's just really good.
>the only good water zone in the entire 2D sonic library
I thought aquatic ruins was pretty decent, though that might have more to do with the fact that you can ignore most of the water in the stage
>there are people itt who think there are worse zones in S3 than Marble Garden
>Hydrocity is the only good water zone in the entire 2D sonic library
I'll maintain Rush's Water Palace and Rush Adventure's Pirates' Island were awesome stages. Aquatic Ruin is good as well. I think Aquarium Park was the best stage in both versions of Colours too.
Marble, Metropolis, Wacky Workbench (unless you're in the Good Future, where it's more tolerable, and even then Act 2 is nowhere near as bad as Act 1), and Sandopolis are the worst stages in each of the classics. Marble Garden is annoying as well, it's almost awesome but has way too many cheap spikes and crushing things. The actual level structure is pretty damn good, it's the object placement that's the issue.
Wacky Workbench
That Sky Canyon place from Sonic Advance 2.
The Sonic Advance games were significantly harder than the Genesis games for mostly worse. Sonic gameplay doesn't work well on a handheld.
>Earliest you can unlock Hyper Sonic
No? You can unlock him as early as the end of Mushroom Zone Act 2 if you know where all the rings are. I did it using a Youtube guide.
Wing Fortress is a nice breezy trip compared to Metropolis. You almost had it right.
The advance games fucked up because they relied on bottomless pits too much.
Hydro-city or High drocity?
oh man, fuck that stage
and fuck that boss
blame Dimps stage design more than anything
Advance 1 isn't particularly much harder than Sonic 2 (heck, I'd say it's easier).
Advance 2 and 3 both adjust the camera to show more ahead at speed, but the stages are full of cheesy deaths.
seriously, every fucking death in Advance 2 is basically:
>oops, I mis-aimed on this spinning handle (or some other gimmick) so now I just fall into a pit
mind you, Advance 2 would be even easier than the rest if it didn't have "do this or die" segments
...and then Advance 3 is full of bottomless pits and crushing all over the place, not just in a few chokepoint spots.
I'm still mad that Advance 3 is as rough as it is, it's got the best music and graphics and the partner system was cool.
but that stage design sucks and the handling is really weird compared to Advance 1 or 2 (not unplayable, but it's definitely kind of fucked)
rhymes with atrocity, even if I love that stage
Generations confirmed it's Hydro City.
>Calling one of the best zones in classic Sonic bad so you get a lot of (You)'s
OP the smart boy
This and Sandopolis for me. Launch base sucked, too. S3&K honestly had some pretty shit zones.
but the crystal zone in the same hack was good.
>worst mania zones
>posts two of the best
People hate this zone? Contrarian retards.
>Labyrinth
>Metropolis
>Marble Garden
>Sandopolis
>Wacky Workbench
>Hydrocity (Mania)
>hydrocity
>good in any way
Labyrinth Zone.
wtf the music is good
One thing people keep overlooking is that in Mania, Hydrocity zone act 2 is harder than in Sonic 3. In 3 it's the 2nd level, In Mania its after Stardust Speedway. As someone who enjoys Hydrocity Zone a lot, playing a harder version of it is pretty cool.
Plus, it's not THAT similar to 3s Hydrocity. It's just that the completely remixed act is the first act rather than the 2nd.
>retarded meme answer
Chemical Plant Zone
>actual hated zone
Hill Top Zone
I wish sonic games were harder. Or rather I wish they didn't have a difficulty curve, they just gave you the first level to warm up then get serious right away. It feels like by the time the game is breaking out the interesting shit it's almost over
>Hill Top Zone
Yeaaah nope
Top 3 Sonic song OAT + neat seesaw stage gimmicks AND lochness badnicks
>Top 3 Sonic song OAT
That I completely fucking disagree with. Annoying and basic as hell. Represents the theme of the zone well, but isn't memorable in the slightest.
>neat seesaw stage gimmick
I'll give you that. It's cool I guess.
Overall I just think the way it looks and the level design is just so basic and boring. Feels reminiscent of emerald hill a bit and doesn't do much interesting in the way of looks. In my eyes, it's the epitome of a filler level and if it was removed from Sonic 2, the flow would be much better.
You should have posted the mania act1 hydrocity. Its disappointing
Mfw Wacky workbench and Oil Ocean are on my favourites list
I'm not surprised shitters think the best stage with the best theme is the worst, kids probably panicked with the drowning music
