I'd play it because it is portable. Good for killing time when you're not at home if anything.
I think P3P was more restrictive in weapon options and stuff but you can use direct commands which made the game way easier anyway. It also doesn't have FES

FES has 3d cutscenes, overworld, and a playable epilogue.
Portable has an optional female protag with different social links and direct party member control. People say direct commands break the game but they're wrong.

Yeah, Portable is just portraits while the original game had 3d models walking around in rooms doing animations and stuff.

I just have no time to sit at my TV for an RPG these days, or even an emulator on my PC. So it will probably have to be portable for me. I liked DeSu a lot though so I should be fine SMT4 was hot garbage though

The difference is, DS was created and written around being a VN, P3 wasn't. A lot of seens have a lot less impact or don't give you a good sense of what is happening. Shinjiro's death for example was 10x better on the PS2.
