Because both Classic Sonic and the Phantom Ruby get sucked into a time-space anomaly at the end of Mania, so I can see the writers pulling a "the Ruby scanned Sonic's personality and secretly copied Sonic's negative emotions while they were lost between dimensions" reveal. And as far as I can recal Sonic has three dozen robot duplicates but not a single evil version of himself yet.
