Tanabe's the one with a raging Toad Fetish and demanded that EVERYTHING be played as safely as possible which led to Sticker Star being "New Paper Mario Brothers" considering the only non-Toad that wasn't an enemy was a fucking Wiggler, and that probably only got by because they're essential to beating some levels in the NSMB games.

It's got what I would consider the deepest story of any Mario game made to date, but the gameplay is simplistic and the gimmick helpers are just that.
I really enjoyed the game when I played through it, though. Not many developers out there will make me care so much about a talking butterfly and Jack-o-Lantern man.
