Post-reboot Amy has a lot of moments where she ends up as emotional support for other characters (not Sonic because he doesn't need it), her crush is played as wanting to be an adventure couple which means she wants to keep up with him instead of wanting to hold him, and there are moments where Sonic treats her as a friend instead of a nuisance, even if he doesn't return her romantic affections. They're still "will they or won't they" but it's more natural and playful instead of Sonic running away from a crazy stalker bitch.
