If the show is any indication the series is going to become more and more generic fantasy
I don't think anyone on Sup Forums will get this meme.
If you've read the books you know it's a different monster entirely
None, we need a comfy tax/government managment game
Democracy 3
Vicky 2.
You mean how autists can't let go of an off hand example of an author saying don't compare him to Tolkien since the two have different writing styles?
Daenerys is still going to be yass queen slay.
The night king will still be the lich king.
There will still be all that chosen one stuff.
Civ5 with mods
>generic fantasy
What is that just Tolkien?
Stop posting this franchise in Sup Forums, it is not video games, what video games it DOES have suck, and you talk about them. Sup Forums you already made one board unbearable, stop trying to make Sup Forums even worse
I do not get the appeal of this guy. The books aren't even very popular
Tolkien basically invented it. It's like bitching about Scream for doing the whole self aware meta teens slasher craze in the mid 90s. It started it, so it gets a pass.
What kind of fag wears glasses like that?
I realize that's not Tolkien's fault.
EU4 With mods can be pretty a pretty comfy tax collecting experience when you're peaceful
With better writing and consistent characters
do you control the tax policies in Crusader Kings II?
Why can't I embargo naughty nations in Victoria 2?
An old guy can dress how ever he wants
What's this tax policy meme?
Which mods?
There was a student in my Shakespeare course who was disappointed that ol' Will would use a line as clichéd as "to be or not to be".
it has a Middle Earth mod. Can you control tax policies in that too?
>With better writing and consistent characters
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Out of context quote from GRRM about how Tolkein's writing differed from his own.
They kinda were, at least back in the 90s when the only other competition for serial fantasy writing was Robert Jordan's SJWfest Wheel of Time.
Either way, ASoIaF is pretty much babby's first fantasy with nothing unique about it besides characters that die for no reason.
yes and no you can do things to influence it but no direct control
...
The show simply ran out of material so they take the traditional dip in quality any American show succumbs to sooner or later, due to their creators thinking themselves clever.
Heck even before they ran out, they omitted important stuff like Lady Stoneheart or Young Griff Aegon.
I think Aragorn was pretty hands off with the economy, as Tolkien was anarchistic himself
MEIOU and Taxes
No one mined SJWs back then. And they really weren't. If they were, they would have had a movies and TV shows in the 90s. Until HBO made him famous, Martin was only famous for being the Half life 3 of books.
It's because Tolkien was a monarchist, who genuinely believed in monarchs being sent by god to rule wisely and good.
The question of government isn't even put into question in LotR.
Now GRRM has an interesting point here, which he probably came up with after overdosing on Paradox games, but he too does at certain point commit the mistake of having a being who is clearly on the evil side. And he certainly doesn't give a fuck about tax policies.
wait don't orcs need sauron to spawn in this world? maybe i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure they don't reproduce like humans and they come out as full adults
Actually I remember reading that in some of Tolkien's unfinished writings he was planning on a sort of sequel to LotR that dealt with Aragorn's son ruling in his stead and having to put down a rebellion or something.
With a wise and just king it would be the best form government. The problem is you roll the dice with each new king.
>WoT
>SJW
I have no words. How is existentialism a cliche?
what if
>He was an anarchist
>He was a monarchist
Yeah, "The New Shadow". It deals with a giant cult that worships the dark lord.
Those were the Uruk Hai. Orcs were just corrupted elves created by Morgoth
Not if I have anything to say about it.
>orc lives matter
I don't see whats wrong with this quote.
Tolkien writes high fantasy stories, with an emphasis on a clear good vs. evil dichotomy, plenty of symbolism (largely Christian) and a well-thought out metaphysical lore.
Martin writes low-fantasy, more inspired by grittier, more grey and more 'realistic' depictions of humans in 'Medieval' life. We don't know which gods exist, we don't even really know who the good guys are.
For Tolkien, there are noble, good rulers who rule by natural law under the auspices of righteous gods. For Martin, men make their own fates, and are much more messy about it.
>He was an anarchist
>My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs) … the most improper job of any man, even saints (who at any rate were at least unwilling to take it on), is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity.
The problem also is that for some reason royal families end up being inbred.
If your disdain for the commonfolk is so high you don't even want to touch them, then you shouldn't rule them either.
he was ebil user!!!!!
What are some good games about shitting a river of brown water?
anarcho monarchism
so female orcs confirmed?
You're joking, right?
The entire series revolves around the idea of a world dominated by women, only women can safely wield magic (at least until the 9th book), and the male heroes of the series are basically powerless without the guidance of women. The only real argument against the series being SJWbait is that the chicks are shrewish as fuck.
>we don't even really know who the good guys are.
Shut up retard.
The good guy is clearly the High Sparrow.
>Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank the more she shat but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew.
>Yezznan was burning with fever, squirming fitfully in a pool of his own excrement. His shit had turned to brown slime streaked with blood
>Those afflicted by the pale mare were always thirsty, drinking gallons between their shits
Is George RR Martin actually Indian?
>we don't even really know who the good guys are
Yeah we do, It's the mary sue and gary stu.
Yeah they're two different people with two different aprroaches to it.
Tolkien is the old intellectual: Creative, idealistic and a little naive.
Martin is the modern liberal: Derivative, cynical and more than a little nihilistic.
This guy is a fucking hack and GoT is garbage, i'm tired of this shit.
>Tolkien basically invented it.
No, Tolkien took a bunch of myths and legends and combined them.
>Martin writes low-fantasy, more inspired by grittier, more grey and more 'realistic' depictions of humans in 'Medieval' life.
Because he just re-imagines famous events from history with names changed and more dragons.
Inhuman monsters pouring in from the north with only a wall and some men in their way? Hadrian's Wall.
The shitfight over the throne? War of the Roses.
Anywhere you look you can spot a loose analogue to history.
Most strategy games let you dive into the nitty gritty financial stuff and thankfully with most of them, you don't have to.
>griff and young griff entirely removed
>euron is the only new greyjoy
Fucking miserable cunts d&d are
Martin is a child of his time though.
Nowadays you simply can't have genuine good guys as heroes.
Unless your name is Oda Eiichiro
Truly a literary god!
>women are a bunch of useless backstabbing fucks that cause far more harm than what pathetic amount of benefit they give
not seeing it
For example? I know I not going to get a straight forward answer.
>he still thinks the books are going to be finished
Anons, I..
So you think every generic fantasy property of the last thirty years came up with "orcs" independently?
more like there has been a constant blurring of what evil is
The Biblical creation for a literal starter.
Citation? I knew it.
t. Showshitters go read a book fags
Well, the creation of Arda and a ton of the stuff in the Silmarillion seems extremely influenced by Genesis, but I think that guy you replied to is a retard. Taking from mythology doesn't mean Tolkien didn't basically invent the modern fantasy genre, because it was his stories that everyone rips from, not those original myths.
Right...
Is that your basis for criticizing his work? You don't think other authors do that?
I'm not going to write your report for you. Read the start of the Silmarillion. It's not the same but it's obviously derived from it.
I've read up to Storm of Swords and dropped it because it was so god fucking awful.
Everything is based off something user, you look like a retard when you use this argument. Your favourite series is a rip off of something too.
and there it is.
>defending a pervy old fat irishman
>criticizing
You think I'm doing that? I was just pointing out why it feels like his people act like people. It's because he looked at how humans acted. Just because I'm not offering him blowjobs doesn't mean I think he's terrible.
What is Westeros's tax policy?
Guys, what are the tax policies in DiscWorld?
Do you think Tolkien came up with Orcs? Elves? Wizards? Dragons? All of those things existed in various legends before Tolkien, he just combined them all into a single universe. It's not like the idea of fantasy epics didn't exist prior to him, because the Greeks were writing those centuries prior.
Just because a work of fiction has elves in it, for instance, does not mean they have to adhere to Tolkien's ideas of them. That is something that Tolkienfags refuse to comprehend or understand.
Why does almost every HBO show have an amazing season 1 then just slowly declines until it's shit by the end?
The only one that got better was The Sopranos
Where did Orcs come from?
fuck off retard break your computer screen and eat it
Something involving Grapes probably.
I love it when I go to Sup Forums, go to the catalog and see this style of thread-making with an unrelated board image that is designed to talk about said unrelated board image.
Depends on the city. In Ankh-Morpork it's "hahaha, taxes, hahahaha" but the records are still held and as the Patrician says it's not a case of taxes not being paid, it's their payment being delayed.
The thing about the Greeks is they didn't write them as fiction.
he did come up with orcs though
Corporate meddling. David Chase was a very hands on guy so he was able to deflect the brunt of it
you have tons of time to produce your first album, and a year to produce your second
same concept
Tax the shit out of the smallfolks
Cut the nobles some slack
wow rude
>Orcs? Elves?
his orcs and elves are pretty fucking different to anything else out there.
But he did come up with orcs you fucking retard.
Black Company is heads and shoulders better than ASoIaF, but that's not to say that ASoIaF is bad. Just not as good.
